Just got an invitation for interview, still need to decide if I'm going the 30th or February 13th, but I'm excited!

Accepted! Interviewed 1/8. I couldnt remember if I submitted a supplemental or not, I asked the one of my interviewers if I had and she said she thought so, so I didnt think anything more of it. Turns out the other day I got an email saying they wouldnt review my application until it was turned in. Turned it in last night, and accepted this morning! Wow, I was really stressing since I saw everyone else get accepted plus I thought I nailed the interviews and what-not! Congrats to everyone else and good luck to the future interviewees!
👍

Has anyone started doing their medical forms? I have everything done except i can't seem to find the meningitis waiver form. I feel like i searched everywhere on their website, and called them but no one picked up 🙁 I will try again tomorrow with better results hopefully, but if anyone knows where i can find this form that would awesome.

Hey guys 🙂

I am a P1 at jefferson right now, and I love it.. I remember I interviewed in January and got accepted soon after.. let me know if you guys have any questions, I'll try my best to answer them.

I just realized this is a relatively productive distraction from studying hehe

OK,

  1. So in terms of books, how much have you spent thus far for the Fall and Spring terms?
  2. In terms of your first year, how difficult was it to maintain the minimum 3.0?
  3. Any info on the attrition rate?
  4. For your IPPE's, which sites are generally offered for the P1 students?
  5. Are any merit-based scholarships offered to the students?
  6. Housing, on-campus or off-campus?
  7. Anything else you think entering students should know, or advice? (take advantage of this, avoid that, and so forth)
Thanks

Yeah I would definitely want to know what to do about housing the apartment they showed was not too great.

I agree; I didn't care too much for the dorms, plus I don't really want to stay in a dorm, I would rather stay in an apartment if that is where I end up. I got a booklet in the mail Tuesday with housing info such as the different types of dorms. But they also linked you up to the website and I found a word doc saying good apartments to check into. PM me your rmail address and I will send it to you if you want!

I'll answer some of these:
1) I spent $200 on books P-1 year, I could have gotten away with $100. I got away with $50 P-2 fall semester and $50 P-2 spring so far.

EDIT: If you actually buy all the books, you'll spend much, much more. Apply the same tactics from undergrad and you'll get away with paying less.

2) 3.0 was easy for me, a struggle for others. depends on your undergraduate experience/fortitude.

3) We lost 4 people for various reasons going from P-1 fall to P-1 spring (1 academic DQ to the next class, 1 had a baby, 1 transferred because they were commuting from maryland and they had a family -- still no idea why they came here, 1 transferred to WV and I don't know the reason).

4) P-1 students get "service learning" and "community pharmacy" sites P-1 year. Service learning entails free/low income clinics around the city while community is community (retail, independent). It gets much better P-2 year (inpatient and am care).

5) Scholarships -- I dunno, never looked into it.

6) Housing on campus sucks but it's convenient. Be prepared for random fire alarms, rats, and backed up plumbing. You also get to see who is hooking up with who when fire alarms go off in the middle of the night, maybe that's a plus for you? I live off campus.

7) Only you know how well you're gonna do....so make the appropriate adjustments. Some students need to study 12 hours a day to keep up, others just need to show up and they'll get A's. Figure out where you stand early on and do what you need to do.

So you know,
When I went on my visit , on of the current students gave us a tour of the apartments and showed us the inside and gave us the price. 1 bed room, one bathroom, one kitchen, small enough for me to stand in the middle and touch all four walls with my arms out, and one small living room. $1000 a month. That is one of the only things about JSP that concernced me, price of living and and other cost. but I suppose its doable according to the current students. but a grand a month is crazy for where I'm from.

that 1bd/1ba you described is CHEEEEAAAAP unless you want to live in the ghetto or further away, but your personal defense/commute costs would eat the difference.

then again, i'm used to $1400-1500 1 bedrooms. I pay $1k for my own studio near campus (all utils included + cable TV).

Really??? 1k is cheap for central city huh? good to know. your place include cable and utils, so that sounds better for sure, haha, you must be from NY or Cali with those living prices.

I live in a 2 bedroom apt with 1 bathroom on campus in Orlowitz. its about $750 a month and the only bill we get is for electricity which is never more than $40. the rooms are decent sized (enough for a full bed + other furniture) and we've never had a rat/roach/plumbing problem (but we might be slightly OCD about vacuuming).. i would say living on campus definitely worth it for how convenient it is (esp when some exams are 7am and you are up late studying).

about books - i only bought 1 book first semester of P1 and never used it, but i heard we use that one later also so i guess it was worth it. but just pick and choose which ones you think you will actually need and you can easily get away with sharing too.

3.0 - i agree, some people did have trouble, but in general most people were ok. i wouldn't let that be a deterring factor, and its not like you get thrown out right away if you under a 3.0.. (i think you have 1 or 2 semesters to even bring it up?)

has anyone not gotten their acceptance package yet?
i interviewed 1/8 and got my acceptance email 1/15 but no package yet!
do they send it out to your current address or permanent address??

blergh.

I received my interview packet on Wednesday. I also interviewed on Jan 8th in the morning and I'm from CA. Maybe you'll get it today

I had my interview on the 18th, and havent heard a peep. it's apparent that they are still working through 1/8 and 1/9, so i wouldn't worry about it too much. Good Luck tho!

confetti.. you old SOB.

hey, what can i say, bad grammer/formatting bugs me...especially when it's public, quasi-permanent, and represents some subset of people. it's embarrassing!

i interviewed on 01/09 and received my acceptance e-mail yesterday (01/22) woohoo!
😀 lol

yeah, someone should definitely start a Jefferson c/o 2014 thread...or maybe i will right now? lol

So for housing which apartment is best to be in? How are the studios in Barringer Hall? Are most of the students living on-campus?

Are the students in each class close to one another, do you have study groups together?

How do you feel about the professors and your coursework?

I was accepted on 12/22- Sent my deposit in by Jan 8- but it has not been cashed- I called the school to see if it was received yet and it was-has anybody else had the same problem with their deposit not being cashed?

I was really nervous my deposit hadn't made it there on the day it was supposed to, but I called and the dean said they give students a few days extra because once mail is received there, it goes to a mail room and it could be there for a few days. I got a letter in the mail a few days later saying my deposit was received, even though my check hadn't been cashed yet. My deposit had to be in by the 12th, and the letter was dated the 13th, but I didn't get it til the 19th because of MLK day. I don't think you should worry, but try calling again. They are pretty nice about that!

Hey, if you PM me your email address, I will send you a word document I found on the website about apartments students live in. There are tons there!

Does anyone know how many students they accept??

Yeah I saw the word document but most of the apartments didn't have prices.

Have you decided that Jefferson is your top choice? I'm like ready to pack my bags and go to philly tomorrow.

I googled the apartments from the word doc.

I interviewed at my top choice school Friday, so we will see how that goes. Looking at those apartments makes me wanna go to philly too!

me too, studentpen! it sort of sucks, though, that i got admitted to jefferson so early on in the admissions process. i've grown accustomed to imagining myself living in philly for several months-- now I got a few more admissions from other places and i'm so attached to philly, it's hard for me to let go! i seriously am ready to pack my bags and go to philly too!

Interviewed on the 15th and just got an acceptance letter to Jefferson!!!!! 😀 gl to everyone else.
