Hello all,
I need some real life insight on what KCUMBs psyD program is like, I’ve heard good things about the medical school just want know if it’s the same in other programs.
Thanks in advance

It's kind of refreshing to get a reply like yours. Typically around here with these kinds of posts, you'd reply to me saying how you know it's expensive and not accredited, but you've got a friend in teh program who says it's great and they know good therapists from there who are very successful and maknig lots of money. This would be followed by some of the "old grumps" replying to you asking why you even bother asking if you aren't going to listen/ already know so much. Shortly after that, a new account poster who is really a thinly disguised recruiter/admissions "counselor" from some predatory program would right a long post about how, while it's not for everyone, this type of program fills a neccessary niche for a certain type of student, plus they know many good therapist from there who are well respoected and making lots of money. Then, if we were truly lucky, somebody would go off the rails with a diatribe about how APA is a joke/the illuminati and licensure is a scam. This would lead to a lot of back and forth (with some of the not-so-old grumps imploring us not to feed the troll) until eventually somebody gets banned, leading to the thread eventually fizzling out, until it is reveived several years later by someone who replies to it as if the question was just asked.

Anyways, thank and best of luck to you. Sounds like you're wisely avoided non-APA accredited programs, and are hopefully avoiding ones that are going to cost you $150K+ (plus compound interest and oppurtunity costs).

I'm a KCU med student and didn't even know we had a PsyD program. As an aside, what's a "typical" cost of tuition for these programs? Curious because I know much less about that career path than I probably should.

Typical cost for PsyDs, PhDs, or in general? PsyDs range fairly wildly, I've seen ranges of 10k-60k a year, some PsyDs offer some funding, or a limited number of assistantships or such. Most clinical PhDs are fully funded and also provide a stipend, so the costs is minimal, if you choose, especially if you live in a low COL area.

You are not the only one. I'm fairly familiar with the KC area and never even knew about this unaccredited program. The traditional practicum sites (e.g., VAs, AMCs) likely do not prefer their students.

I'm glad I'm not the only one familiar with the area who had no idea...

I assumed KC 'had' to mean another city.. I've never heard of a single practicum site having them or even receiving applications from.

I was referring specifically to PsyD, thank you.

Oh I am just truly grateful for the advice, I definitely wouldn't bother posting on the forum if I wasn't going to take heed of the no brainers you pointed out. I really don't want to shell out $150K, if its free its for me!! :)

That you have this mindset and are genuinely here asking for information and advice puts you so far ahead of the curve.

Read through as many threads as you can here and ask any questions you can't find the answer to through the search function. That's what I did and ended up with several offers, including my dream program, in which I'm just finishing up my first year.
