I am a student at MCG and the last two replies were pretty right on. The PD is definately the highlight of the program and he will go to bat for you regardless. The other faculty are very strong as well. The program has widely varying interests as already stated, if there is something that you are interested in, they will do everything to make it happen. The ED runs pretty smoothly and the nursing staff does a solid job. Not to much penetrating trauma, but enough trauma and procedures to feel comfortable when you leave. It is an academic hospital, so you occassionally run into the pissed off intern in the middle of the night who doesn't want to admit pt X, but that is usually not a problem. The off service rotations are fairly benign.
People sometimes call Augusta "disgusta" and that was the impression I had before moving there a few years ago. The city is really trying to clean up the town and the downtown area is much nicer now with many new bars. You definately will never confuse this place for ATL or NY, but it is a great place for families. It is the cheapest place I have ever lived. Most residents buy large new homes, even med students can buy homes here. 2.5 hours to the beach and mountains. 2 hrs to atl
