Does anyone know how post December 1st acceptances work? I've been reading around and it looks like some schools fill at max on Dec 1 then fill whatever spots are open and others do 50/50? I was just curious if anyone has spoken to an admissions rep about this since I'll have now 2 interviews post December. Thanks!

Do you know of any good neighborhoods with single family homes? Non trad coming in :claps::soexcited:

Non-trad here too. We are currently in North Garland and looking to sell/buy before next summer. We are looking at White Rock area (good for me) and west Richardson (good for husband and kid). If you want to PM me, I might be able to give some pointers about the area relevant to families.

We live in East Richardson and the wife commutes down to the school. Isn't a huge deal for her, yes the traffic can be annoying occasionally, but otherwise manageable. Obviously, being closer has some major advantages, but if you're looking to buy/rent for cheaper you've got to commute a little. Or live in smaller place.

I know she uses the commute to listen to lectures, so it's not a big study time killer like we thought it might be. Just stay off 75, STAY AWAY.

Ehh, all the schools are good. I honestly would have been happy going to any one of them. A&M offered me money and it ended up being cheaper than the other two that's the main reason I chose A&M. I also like the fact that we take boards after D1.
Can you explain why taking boards after D1 is a good thing?

Thanks

We take all of our basic sciences D1 year so it would be better to take it immediately following D1 while the information is still fresh on your mind as opposed to taking it after D2 and trying to remember info you learned almost 2 years ago. Plus D2 year you can focus solely on your Pre-clinical skills without having to worry about studying for boards.

That does sound advantageous!

Thanks for answering

I know that all 3 schools are in the mid to high 90's in 1st time passing rates. I wouldn't sweat it too much in terms of it being a deciding factor between schools.

I agree with aggietxdent, I think all 3 schools probably have similar passing rates. Ours is usually mid to high 90s with the c/o 2016 having an unusually low first time Part II passing rate (91%). I think the UTHSCSA stats are given during the interview day orientation.

Awesome! I need to decide when I can leave my job and still maintain insurance coverage until school starts.

Speaking of health insurance.... is there an option at TAMU for students to get coverage? Can we add dependents? Does anyone have experience with that?

My stats are in my signature, and yes I am a reapplicant, I'm currently doing a post-bacc program at Temple dental school and got really good grades there so that might have gotten me the interview haha! PM if you want to know more about the post-bacc or anything, it's an amazing program.

I did some searching and it looks like we can? It's real expensive if it's what it looks like on the website so if anyone else can clarify I'd appreciate that too!

Can you post a link. I've been looking around, but I haven't seen any pricing info.

I stayed at Wyndham Houston - Medical Center Hotel and Suites. They have a shuttle service and they can store your luggage with them. I also asked them to take me back to the hotel after the interview to get my luggage. It's a little expensive though. and yayyyy good luck!! youll do awesome 🙂

There are a bunch of hotels around the school area that you can stay, and most of them offer shuttle within the local area, or you can uber.

I have my apartment up on airbnb, I'm close to the dental school. Just message me if you're interested in staying there

For those attending A&M, did you fill out the fafsa yet? Is it supposed to be to Texas A&M in college station? Also, I know professional students are independents but it says on the application:
"You are considered an "independent" student. This means you are not required to answer questions about your parents. However, you may want to answer questions about your parents if:
  • you are a law school or health profession student (such as a medical or nursing student), or
  • your school requires parental information from all students."
So are we supposed to put our parents? and if we are, when they ask "Your number of family members in 2017-2018 (household size) and How many people in your household will be in college in 2017-2018?" if we put our parents, does that mean the number of family members is the whole family? Or just put ourself? I'm just confused on us being independent but having to put our parents and household info...?

The A&M fafsa code they gave us at the interview is 003632, and that's the one with the college station address.
Yes, for grad and professsional schools we all are considered independent but you can put down your parent or parents information down if you choose. Also there's a specific loan for dental students called the Health Professions Student Loan that requires parental information. I also read somewhere that it could help for students who are in need the most in getting grants from their schools. I don't know how correct that may be so don't take my word for it.
For household info , honestly that one always confuses me and the way I fill that out is based on what I have on the tax return, maybe someone else can give you a better answer.

Agee with everything.

On house info I put 1 and I think that's fine bc of the independent status (assuming you have no kids or spouse etc . Or whatever the guidelines are)

So you put your parents info but still put 1 for household info?

Anyone get an interview invite from SA recently? (Post Dec 1st). Interviewed at both A&M / UTSD but haven't heard anything from SA yet...

I got an interview to SA for Jan 9th on December 12th. Hope that helps. When did you interview at A&M? I interviewed there as well but nothing from UTSD yet

Has anyone from OOS received an interview invite from San Antonio recently? (past three weeks)
If any have, when is your interview? Thanks!

Does anyone know where or how I can access the 4-year curriculum for the next entering class at TAMU? I am trying to get a feel for what's to come. I found this link (http://catalog.tamu.edu/graduate/co...nterdepartmental/dds/#programrequirementstext) for 2016-2017, and I see that the NDBE I review course is in the summer after D2...is this right? From my understanding, I thought TAMU takes the boards after D1 😵
that link is accurate. Except we have board review and micro the summer after D1 now.

so has everyone who got acceptances decided now where they will be going?

Anyone have the 4 year plan for San Antonio? Would like to know when we take boards and start seeing patients and all that jazz. I know they had something like that in the powerpoint they showed us on interview day but I can't seem to find the info anywhere else!!

Also, do SA students have to take Immunology in dental schol? I'm signed up for the class for my last undergrad semester before starting dental school for fun but I don't see it on the list of courses (it is there for TAMU though)

Although the link above serves as a good general indicator of SA's didactic curricula I believe the above link for UTHSCSA is not representative of the changes to come for the incoming class of 2021 I think the NEW academic curriculum details will be posted online some time in January February if I'm not mistaken. One thing I remember though is that Biochem will no longer be on the list for DS1s to take

Okay that's what I thought too! You think Immunology would be a helpful class to take with this new curriculum for SA? I'm definitely taking A&P but I also don't care to take not-so-useful classes if I don't have to next semester since I'm already accepted and wayyy above my requirements for graduation anyways haha

I dont know specifically about SA but I'd say immunology is a good course to have under your belt
