For current or former applicants to texas schools, i was wondering how many of you actually did the optional essays. for one thing, the prompts for both seem like they are the same question, and moreso, what if you covered most of those questions in the PS? If most people actually do them and it is generally seen as not really optional, then i guess i could adjust. for example i know with a lot of secondaries there are optional essays but it is implied that you have to do them. is this the same? Thanks alot!

For those who don't feel like reading:

Only answer the special circumstances one if you really do have special circumstances (and most likely it'll be in your PS already anyway).

The diversity question is *required*. This is one of those times where optional stuff isn't optional. Do NOT skip it, because it's a question that isn't addressed anywhere in your application and directly answers most mission statements for Texas schools (having a diverse class).

There's no need to go overboard for the 2nd essay, just answer it truthfully (get a few people to proofread it), and you're done. You should be able to crank something out within a week and be finished with it.

i filled it out #1 only because i had something in my app that needed to be addressed and just didn't have room in my PS.

i agree with therealmd. definitely fill out essay #2.
