TMDSAS Personal Characteristics vs Optional Essay Help

I'm having trouble on thinking what to finalize for each essay. I have written one and have an outline for the other. For personal characteristics I was writing about how moving as a child, and especially close to my senior year gave me a love for new environments, inclusivity, adaptability, and initiative. Then for optional I was going to talk about being a minority/Muslim in a post 9-11 America and how I would hide that growing up while also trying to help take care of my younger brothers in a predominantly white area. Some people have said that a hardship more so aligns with optional essay, which aligns more with moving. Should I just use the optional to talk about something beyond my identity, like maybe my struggle in finding work-life balance in school?
