Cleveland, Ohio After two top-five finishes in womens basketball and mens swimming, Stanford extended its lead in the second installment of the winter Division I Learfield Sports Directors Cup standings. The Cardinal have now scored a total of 854.75 points earning 460.75 points this winter alone, the most of any institution.
North Carolina moves up two spots in the standings to second place with a total of 694.25 points. The Tar Heels captured the mens basketball title and finished 17th in womens basketball and 26th in mens swimming.
Third place belongs to Minnesota who moves down from second. The Gophers scored in all three of the most recent championships; finishing 11th in mens swimming, 17th in womens basketball and 33rd in mens basketball to bring their point total to 683.75.
Jumping back into the top-five for the first time this winter is Florida. The Gators notched a fifth place finish in the mens swimming championships and also finished 17th in womens basketball, bringing their point total to 615.75.
Rounding out the top-five is California. The Golden Bears jumped into the top-five for the first time this year, up from their previous 8th place standing. California tallied two top-10 finishes, placing fourth in mens swimming, ninth in womens basketball, and 33rd in mens basketball.
