Hi everyone!

I just wanted to start a new thread for people who have been invited of get invites for interviews for the college of pharmacy at Touro College, New York.

I am anxious to hear something from them as Feb 15th is quickly approaching!

Good luck and thanks!🙂

yea guys, I dont know why but they didn't even cash my check yet. So im worried.

Yes, they haven't cashed my check yet either...i'm guessing everyone is pretty much in the same boat right now. Feb 15th is as Sunday, so im hoping we'll hear something early next week...

Is Touro NY your first choice MIkeNB? where else have you applied, if you dont mind me asking? 🙂

It's not my first choice since they are not accredited. But they are my highest hope right now. I found out about this school 3 days before the application closes. I had to mail my supp with overnight shipping. Pharmcas did not send my stuff until the 9th but it was submitted on the 30th of jan.

that will probably be ok, seeing as you submitted your information before the deadline. Did you get a confirmation email from Dr Garland-Patterson saying that your application is under review? 🙂

Interviews are expected to start in the beginning of March and last for 3 weeks, they are going to run on Mondays thru Thursday. I believe they are going to follow last year's model and have 2 sets of interviews 9AM and 1PM.

They are currently reviewing all applications, and I imagine they are scoring the applications by their criteria to determine the applicants eligible for interviews.

Thanks Sparda! So how is life at Touro NY and the pharmacy program? Any helpful advice you could give us on interviews etc?

How does the 2+2 curriculum work? Are you only in school for lecture and lab for the first two years and doing rotations for the second 2 years?

Any advice/info would be greatly appreciated! As you can probably tell, i have my heart set on Touro NY..

well Ill wait for a few more days before i call admissions again. the lady that works there is not the nicest person to talk to and she also gave me the wrong information. She told me that pharmcas paperwork had to be on her desk by the 2nd but the website said that they consider submission date. When I correct her on it, she said "well you should have done it sooner anyways, our link have been on pharmcas since july". That statement did not address any questions and she's just turning the tables on me. Why would i notice touro in july when i pick my destinated schools in june. Hopefully she's not in the ad com =) or worst, interviewer

The first two years are lecture/lab/didactic stuff, with rotations in January, and 1 of the 3 summer months.

The curriculum is intense from the first day.

Hey everyone,

So here's the update I received from Touro NY

Please keep us informed, when any of you recieve invites for interviews.

Students,

Interviews will begin on Monday, March 02, 2009 and go through Thursday, March 19, 2009.

We will contact you via e-mail if you qualify for an interview.

Thank you for your continued interest in Touro College of Pharmacy

Good luck...and hope to hear some good news for us all soon!!

FYI, this came directly from our Assistant Dean.

If your supplemental application didn't make it to Touro by February 2nd, 2009, your application is NOT being considered.

They said that they had to receive it by that day, not postmarked. One of my friends completely forgot about it and is now screwed, another one of my friends bummed a ride off of me and hand delivered the application on deadline day.

Just to clarify for everyone.

To be considered for an interview, both the pharmCAS and supplemental applications have to be sitting in Touro NY COP office by Monday, the 2nd of February? or just the supplemental!?

Thank you for your interest in the Touro College of Pharmacy. We have received your application information and your Supplemental Application. Your application is under review; you will be contacted with your status as you progress through the admissions process.

This is the message I received in my email. I sent my supplemental in postmarked Feb 2nd. Im pretty sure that this means they are reviewing it correct? I mean if they arent considering mine because it wasnt in by Feb 2 why even send this email to me?

What i've learn from many people, admission can say whatever they want to you but the real story might be different. But anyways, i had to argue with the admission lady on the phone for 10 minutes about this. In the end, we came to a conclusion that the application have to be on the desk on the deadline day and the pharmcas is the submission date. She knows the answer all along, she just want to make it hard for me by saying "both pharmcas and supplemental have to be on our desk on the 2nd".

From my understanding, both the Supplemental and the PharmCAS must arrive on February 2nd.

One of my friends was saying that she knows someone in the post office who could mess around with the postmark dates, and I guess that's the reason why it has to be there at February 2nd.

If you really wanted pharmacy school, you would have done whatever it takes to make sure it gets there on time, such as Overnight Mail, Express, etc, or personally bring it there.

Its not as much about wanting to get into pharmacy school, which I do. It's more or less just say that the supplemental has to be on the desk by Feb 2nd and I would have overnighted it. If they are not going to consider my application than I hope they wont cash my supplemental check, because that would be unfair.

Man you guys are getting me worried about my pharmcas. My pharmcas was finally mailed on the 16th, Did any of you guys get an invite yet?

I did not get an invite yet but they sent me something saying my application was up for review. I am positive all my applications were in on time. I think maybe the school is just slacking a bit.

Yes, I think the school is probably running behind schedule. Im also waiting for an interview invite. My supp application was delivered to the school on Jan 30th, I just hope it got to the admissions 'desk' by Feb 2nd. My PharmCAS was submitted in December....:xf::xf::xf:

Good luck everyone and keep us posted on any new information 🙂

The way I believe their system works is that they grade all the applications with certain criteria before inviting the applicants for interview.

It's not rolling admissions so I'm pretty sure it's not going to be like a first come first serve.

Hey Sparda, I dont know how you do it, but i can't stand the admission lady. She's rude and unreasonable.

I just got an email stating that my application did not arrived on time but i spent $18 overnight shipping it. So i called her up and she gave me all these excuses how my mail have to arrive on time. Again i assure her that it did. Then she gave me another reason how I did not meet my prereq (if my mail did not arrive on time, then how did they know i did not meet my prereq). So i told her I just signed up for new classes to meet that prereq. Then she told me that i should have stated that in my supplemental so my application is cancelled. So i guess the school doesn't accept updates after the deadline, even tho ALMOST ALL other schools do. Not a good day.

Sparda, do you know if they keep notes of these kind of stuff? lol i mean i was calm the whole time but she went crazy on me.

Mike, I lived in Manhattan for two years... I think it's just the New York attitude. Nothing to worry about, and it's something you'll get used to (if you end up going there)... not sure if Sparda's opinion will be biased. 😉

REALLY! lol. So if i live in new york, ill end up being like her?! =) that will totally kill my good pharmacy nature. But it's worth the education i guess.

that's really true. Don't take it personal, new yorkers tend to "tell it like it is." But admissions people in general, don't really care about us. Just keep fightin'!

For me, it took them 2 months to respond back to my admissions inquiry email.

Hey everyone,

Has anyone received any interview invites, or even rejections, or anything yet?

Sorry to seem really impatient...im getting so anxious!

Please let us know if you guys here anything...and good luck to you all!

🙂:xf::xf::xf::luck:

From what I heard so far, if you took the January PCAT, your interview won't be until the 3rd week of March.

Basically, those who got their PCATs done before January, will be in the first batch (1st 2 weeks of March).

Monday-Thursday, 9AM-1130AM (Morning Interviews), 1pm-330PM (Afternoon Interviews).

One last word about it, you will probably be greeted by students when you arrive. THESE STUDENTS ARE EVALUATING YOU, SO DON'T THINK LIGHTLY OF THIS PART.

Thanks for the advice Sparda! 🙂

Wow I guess i'll be waiting until the 3rd week of March! Im hoping those of us that get interviews towards the end of the interview cycle, get a fair chance of securing a place. Am i right in thinking that once all the interviews are done, the committee will get together to send out acceptances or will it be a rolling acceptance as interviews get under way?

I submitted pharmcas application in Nov and kept asking the lady when the supplemental application will be on the school website. First time, she told me the end of Nov, then the end of Dec. Finally it was up in Jan. I decided not to apply there because the school doesn't seem organized and the lady's attitude was...ugh.....

I didn't know her attitude was a New Yorker thing....

Just received an interview invite for march 2nd! Kinda short notice...where the hell am I going to stay?

New York here I come!

Sparda...any suggestions on the travel/interview?

I'd suggest flying into La Guardia Airport and get a hotel near the airport. You can just get a cab to go over, it's a pretty short ride from La Guardia. Depending on the time of the interview, it can be either a 15 minute ride or a 1 hour ride because of traffic.

Hi, did you receive by email or mail? what is your status

I GOT AN INTERVIEWW!! Im soo excited and nervous!

Mine is on Tuesday 3rd March.

any interview advice would be greatly appreciated.

good luck everyone 😀:xf:

anyone who got an interview do you mind posting your gpa and everything else..I plan on applying to Touro next year.. I'm finishing up my sciences with their undergrad school on 23st..thanks and goodluck to all..

Congrats to those who got interviews. I'm not sure when the cutoff is, but I'm guessing that you'll receive invites 1 week prior to your interview.

DON'T BE LATE!!!!!😱 Our professors have developed a funny way of dealing with people who come in late to lecture (15 minutes after the lecture starts), basically when the person walks in, the entire class says "Thank you for joining us today."

so you're "finishing undergrad school on 23st?????"

i had a 3.5ish cumm gpa. with a BS.
ton's of EC's including cinical experience and comm pharm experience.
great LOR's from 1 pharm and 2 professors (w/ phd's of course)
ptcb cert and a few other certs not related to pharm

but...don't compare yourself to those who have gotten invites....the way I look at it....You can make yourself stand out as a competitive applicant in a number of ways. High stats aren't the only way to shine.

Sparda has already given me his take on harlem (thanks sparda!).....Can anyone else give me any input? My parentals are worried that harlem might be a bit unsafe. And I dont want to have to look over my shoulder every 10 seconds. And I know this is jumping the gun a bit, but what parts of NYC are good places to live with reasonable living costs?

Thanks and GOOD LUCK to all!

And the invite was received by E-mail.
JH2: I dont know what you mean what is my status.

I agree, its not all about the stats. I think its also about being unique and bringing something different to the 'table'.

Don't lose hope people, because their interview period is almost 4 weeks long, so there is still time.

Good luck to everyone!:luck::xf:

No i just got my BBA in finance this past May and this economy happened .So I decided to head back to school and take my sciences retake a few classes and try my attempt for pharm school. My GPA for my BBA was 2.9 ..yea its low but I have over 5 years experience on and off working as tech in a private store in NYC..Right now at touro I have a 3.9 in my sciences..I got this semester, summer and fall; should be done with everything if all works out, I Will apply for fall 2010...

I will have lor from head of major hospital in NYC and head of a pharmacy dept of that hospital on top of few pharmacist and professor...
extra curricular I been part of few clubs and will be doing volunteer work this summer ..do I stand a chance?

If you get some roommates, probably the best thing to do would be to contact some other pharmacy students and ask them if they wanna share the cost of an apartment, that should be decent for Manhattan.

Or you could try apartments in Queens. Astoria is a pretty good place, a lot of nightlife over there as well, a pretty young population IMO. From Astoria, all you need to do is get to the M60 bus, which will take you right to Touro.

You def have a chance! Remember to continue to stay on top of your pharmacy/healthcare volunteer activities. And do some type of community volunteer work as well. If you got any C's then retake those courses. And write an awesome personal statement.

You can def do it! I have a friend that had a 2.7 gpa and is currently a P1...school will remain nameless, as will he. Again. GL.....and its great that youre researching ahead of time!

Great insights Sparda, looking forward to your guidance. Hey guys, I have been reading around but I use my friend account and decided to create my own. 🙂. Well just wanted to let everyone know that I got an interview as well, it is Tuesday March 3rd @ 1pm. Just got it to day and tickets are expensive! but NEW YORK!! first time to NY. Hope nothing bad happens..haha.. Hope everyone get an interview! Congrats optimistic and Pharmdsis! 🙂:xf:👍

I got an interview today too for March 3rd!!! 😀 I am soooo excited but also really nervous! It's really short notice but I can't wait! 🙂

Congratulations you guys!! Im looking forward to meeting some of you that have interviews on Tuesday, March 3rd.

I was thinking, they may have a group activity, or even a paper to write or something in the interview other than just talking to a panel. Have you guys thought about what they might ask us to do and if/how we can prepare?

If it is similar to last year's interview, there will be a group writing activity, and its quite spontaneous, but pretty fun.

Will it be a group interview? Open or closed file??
Also, Sparda, any idea on how many people will be interviewed / accepted ?

There will be a group session and an individual interview session. There are supposed to be 8 candidates coming to each of the 9AM and 1PM sessions. From those 8 people, 4 will have their individual interviews first and the other 4 will have their group work first.

Closed file, I believe a blind interview.

No idea on how many interviewed, but ~80 accepted, they might take a couple more than that. For example, last year they were going to initially take 60 but they decided on 66.

I hate to ask a dumb question but what exactly is a closed-file interview? Does it mean that the panel of interviewers will not have seen our stats/LOR's/EC's and supplemental apps etc? 😕

I think so...also does any know what kind of questions they might ask? "Why Touro, NY?"(guessing) And after we reply that we are going to attend the interview are they suppose to send us some extra information about the interview schedule and hotel info? Just wondering because I don't have any reply back yet.
