i just got my interview invite today via email! they're scheduling b/w jan. 29-31.

Congrats! I'm hoping I'll get an interview invite as well

Hey, guys, those of you who got an interview invite, did you send a LOR from a physician? It says on their web-site that a LOR from a physician MUST be send, while the secondary states that the LOR CAN be send. I have trouble finding a doctor who will let me shadow them. Is it possible to send a secondary without a LOR from a physician?

Anybody received the invite to interview yet?? Just wondering what it says. I checked the mailbox and mine was not in the mail today. 🙁

It's coming via Email kids...
But I'm guessing it might be followed up via a hardcopy (which is how the other Touros do it).

Yay! About to call.

man, I just called my undergrad pre-med office and even though I requested them to send my LOR's to Touro-NYC last week, they never got my request! After calling though they were able to sent it electronically on the spot, I should've called last week, BLAST!!😡

Same here! I ended up with the 30th (hey what the hell am I doing complaining!? ).
Looks like there's a bunch of us for the 30th on here 🙂

Anyone know how many people per day and more importantly, what type of interview format? I'm guessing it's NOT the panel format?

haha same here, DEFINITELY not complaining! but yikes, this is the scary part...we have NO idea what to expect since we're the very first batch. no interview feedback help now... but here's to hoping we all ace it anyways! :luck:

Congrats to everyone who has received an interview invite. 🙂
Would anyone who got a secondary/interview post their stats to give those of us who are waiting an idea of where we stand. My AACOMAS was mailed to them on 1/7/07. Thanks all, and congratulations again. Let us know how the interviews go!!!

i am interviewing on the 29th too! has anyone picked a hotel yet, or does anyone have any advice on picking one? i've never been to new york and don't want to get lost!!

I'm wondering the same thing about hotels. I'm interviewing on the 30th. Any idea where you guys are staying?

luckily, my best friend lives in the city so i'm staying with her. i haven't looked over the hotel options they sent to us, but if you haven't been to nyc before, i would suggest staying somewhere REALLY close so you can take a cab. figuring out the subway system takes some time.

WOOHOO, Interview on the 31st! Anyone going to be interviewing that day as well? The subways are pretty easy to figure out from my exp. but then again I am used to the DC metro system so I'm biased. I'm probably going to plan to get into the city the day before so I'm not too stressed on time. Good luck everyone and I hope more SDN'ers get interview invites!

NYC is really not hard to figure out.
if you are in midtown/downtown... its gonna be messy.. but uptown/harlem areas, its not too crowded. you guys will be fine.

oh.. and do NOT attempt to drive into city.. i highly discourage that..
and PARKING is another story..

Interviewing on the 31st!!!

I'm interviewing on the 6th. 🙂

Congrats IAP, I've seen you posting on this for a while!

Thanks Clement!

Hey have ya'll chosen a hotel from the list yet?? I'm thinking Hotel Belleclaire. Anybody know how far this would be from the school? I have never been to NY. 😕

Buena suerte Monsoon338, Zeppelinmed, and Rbgirl! (Good Luck in Spanish). :luck: I am anxious to see how this entire interview process goes. Have you guys also interviewed at the other Touro schools? I'll be in Mare Island on the 30th. I threw in a nice ski trip to Tahoe over the weekend since my best friend lives there - Woohoo!

Seems like we're all waiting for someone to ask!
I'm more curious to know what the format will be!

I'm glad you all are the guinea pigs. Better you than me! Just kidding! I would love to be there right along with you.

Don't worry about the format. It can't be all that different than any other school. You already know they want you. Just don't screw up and you'll probably get accepted. At least they can't use the excuse that they don't have very many spots left.

Good luck everyone!! I'm so jealous! 😀

Just remember to give us all a detailed report when you get back.

lals and businessman, looking forward to meeting you on the 30th!

I found this in the catalog on their website

Interviews

After the supplemental application is received, those who qualify for an
interview will be selected and the admissions office will schedule these
candidates for an interview. The interview process will begin with a continental breakfast provided by the college, while the Admissions Director informally discusses the historical background of the Osteopathic Medical College and the parent institution, Touro College. The presentation will also include an explanation of the Medical College facilities as well as information regarding the surrounding Harlem Community and available housing. Subsequent to this phase of the process each candidate will be interviewed by two faculty members; one from Basic Science and one from the Clinical Departments. The interviewing faculty will complete a scored form to evaluate the interview just conducted, and will submit this information to the Admissions Director. This information along with the candidate’s academic credentials will be included in the selection process. After all the candidates, present that day, have been interviewed and following lunch, there will be a tour of the Medical College facilities. These interviews will be conducted from December through June. It should be noted that an interview does not guarantee acceptance. Acceptance to the Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine will be recommended by a committee of five faculty members and one member of TOUROCOM’s Harlem Advisory Board. This recommendation goes to the Dean, who reserves the authority to approve all applications for admission. Within six weeks of the formal interview, the candidates will receive notification indicating acceptance, rejection or wait-listing. The candidates on the wait list will be notified of a decision as soon as possible.
As was stated previously the academic grades and MCAT scores are just two
factors used in the evaluation process. The result of the interview is an
important factor and in addition TOUROCOM requires each student to meet
certain technical requirements which were listed on page 9 - 11 of this Catalog.

where are pages 9-11?!

(thanks for the heads up btw)

I'm interviewing on the 31st of Jan. as well. Although I'm gonna ask Mrs. Copeland if all the spots on the 30th are filled. Good luck to all.

Definately want to hear some feedback from the first batch of interviews...I'm interviewing on Feb 7th

i have an interview on the 6th also

oo clement i didn't mean to leave you out!

i did the 2 on one format at pcom-ga and bradenton, which have been the only 2 interviews i've had, so i don't know how interviews work otherwise. i just hope our interview ends up being more of a conversation rather than them grilling us. does anybody have any first-hand experience with how interviews work at the other touro campuses?

The Mare Is. campus uses panel format. 4-5 interviewees paired with 3-4 interviewers. I like certain aspects of it - getting familiar with other applicants' motivations - but felt more constrained in my responses. I haven't heard of any other panel formats.

is it true that tuition at TOUROCOM is fixed for all 4 years at 30,000. I hear NYCOM goes up 7% every year, so the fixed tuition will be a def help!

Guess I'm a tad confused...When they say "panel" are they referring to the number of interviewers or interviewees in the room? I got an Email saying they were going to use the panel format.
I like how Touro-MI does it cuz being in the room with other candidates actually makes me less nervous and gives it a more casual feel. I've also done the 2 interviewers and I format (yikes! my first one, and I was nervous).

While sitting in traffic today, I had a thought...Since this is their first round of interviews, I think they willl probably be easygoing or perhaps some of them might have never even interviewed candidates before? Who knows...They might be just as anxious as us!
So far, all their admissions people seem really approachable, which I find is a characteristic of newer schools (especially Touros!).

Hi All!

I know there was a thread a week ago asking how many people have gotten secondaries from Touro yet, but I'm wondering if there are still a bunch of you waiting to hear? I sent in my designation the morning it opened and still haven't heard!

Anyone else? I'm in CO!

I got mine sometime before January 5th, and applied when they announced... like the 15th of December 2006.

ya, i'm hoping you're right. i doubt they would want their first interviewees to give other people a negative impression of the school since it's brand new. haha or maybe we're just all wishful thinkers 🙂
