in reference to interview there are two questions im blanking when thinking of an answer.

What is one tangible way that you would impact/be involved in the Harlem community? why Harlem?

any help from others would be much appreciated.

not saying that youre wrong (subjectivity works that way), but I'm really shocked you felt that way. Generally the strong suit of the school is that everyone walks away really impressed with how dedicated everyone is to putting the students first.

Of course, i'm sure you have a nice acceptance elsewhere to enjoy. So this is no big deal for you. and congrats on that.

hey Doc,
i didnt meant no disrecpect- i really liked all your adivce!

i dunno..i really wasnt blown away to be honest...im guessing..its bc touro doesnt have an undergrad program (as i said)-- and that losses the appeal as a school...more than anything...i didnt feel that school feel...

all the others have several programs and are much larger...a campus life...sport teams etc...i really liked being in school..

maybe im just crazy..lol

Nah. There was no disrespect felt. So no worries. Just surprised to hear that comment. But thats the joy of subjectivity. Everyone knows what they want and will either see it or jot. It's vital that you go where you'd be happy.

I got this as well at an earlier interview date. I spent the whole interview being attacked, mostly being asked science questions at a rapid fire pace. They were rude, disrespectful, and insulting to me. Everything they could turn into an interrogation, they did. It left me with a horrible view of the school. I'm not sure why they did this, its nothing in my file, because several other schools have had no trouble accepting me.

how common is this? being asked science questions in the interview rather than questions about our file?

My interviewers did the same thing to me and didn't even let me finish my sentences. They kept on firing and asking pure scientific questions and also ridiculed my application. I definitely felt insulted and at the same time upset. I loved the school tour and the deans/administration, but I can't believe that interview went the way it did. Several students I interviewed with that day also had that experience. It is my #1 choice school, but I don't know now.

So, I interviewed here on 11/17. I can't compare it to other interviews because this is my first, but I can say this, I felt like I was a murder suspect being interrogated without an attorney. I was interviewed by two women, they did not even attempt to get to know who I was as a person, they seemed very interested in trying to get me to buckle under their bad cop bad cop routine. The one question I thought was a great question, "what kind of doctor do you want to be?" I didn't even get a chance to answer because the other interviewer cut me off mid sentence because she was itching to say something. I know some first year students here and they told me that I got a really tough combination, so I am sure this is not the norm. If you get these two women, just make sure you stay calm and defend yourself properly cause they are out to get you.

it all depends on your interviewer... all I can say is prepare to know all your biochem REALLY EXTREMELY well. And if you don't, try harder than I did and not break apart. Was NOT the interview day I was expecting. see pictorial below:

🙂 --> 😳 -->😕 😕 😕 😕 -->:scared: --> 😡 +:scared:

on a different note, I was really impressed with the way they were able to sell their school. They are very student oriented and their primary goal is for students to succeed.

I think I had different interviewers but mine had a lot of rapid-fire questions for me too. I answered one question "wrong" in a way and I was also out in less than 15 minutes, where as everyone else in my group was in there for 30+ minutes. I thought I was doomed, but I got accepted...so try not to read too much into anything and stay positive!

Really? You were asked biochem questions? I think I had that interviewer last year. It definitely was not a relaxed interview, but I didn't get asked any science questions.

you interviewed with me that day! and yup, a few other people were unfortunate enough to get your panel of interviewers too that day and they didn't look too hot after their interviews either :/

I was lucky enough to get a really relaxed, conversational, and low stress interview though. It only took ~15 mins or so.

I did give a tour today to half of the interviewees, and one of them did mention that he was asked about the downregulation of NMDA receptors. Ouch.

For those who are apprehensive about upcoming interviews, I can assure you that most of the interviews here are NOT like that. I actually found it slightly humorous that it was the chair of the OMM department who asked the interviewee the above question. As others have said, questions like these are just posed to ruffle your feathers and see how you respond to being put on the spot/high pressure. Better to say "I don't know" than to fumble around for something you may end up regretting. I know the interview day is stressful enough as it is, but being prepped for these curveballs will make it a little easier on you.

So yes, there is a mix of stressful interviews and laid-back interviews- it's all luck of the draw, but be prepared for anything and everything. Be confident, be honest, and be enthusiastic, and you'll be fine. Remember, they've made it clear that they want you, and that interview is your one opportunity to sell yourself to them.

Good luck to all future interviewees, see you soon...

Wow, I'm very surprised to see so many applicants being "attacked" at the interview. My interviewers went the good cop bad cop routine, so I took the friendly interviewer for granted...but I can't imagine how stressed I would have been if both of them did a tag team to put me on the spot. But I also think they are trying to gauge how you can respond in stressful situations, not necessarily wheather you know the biochem concepts or not. Good luck to everyone with upcoming interviews!

Also, did anyone else happen to notice th scoring chart/rubric right on the table while you were interviewing? When I got in there there were already some numbers filled in.. Bit unnerving

Back in the day I got the "Dr. Levine and Not Dr. Levine" routine. My second interviewer say hello to me, said thank you at the end and didn't say a word the rest of the time. Dr. Levine sort of dominates the conversation and I had the joy (terror?) of having one of the first questions be "so tell me about your political science degree" knowing damn well that this guy was the president elect of the AOA and this was his field of mastery.

I did say I could not recall the answer quite a few times, but the questions came one after another and the same question was asked over 5 times throughout the interview. When I was getting closer to the answer, but not quite, she gave me hints and clues. Not so sure how I could have dodged that. Then she said maybe I don't remember because I am nervous, which I already admitted that I was. I tried to be as honest as I can be and remained calm for the most part of the interview.

You're right. It's not to review every biochem concept, but more so to see how you react. However, if you are doing a thesis or a research project, then review the details of your project well. At least if it does get brought up, you'll be prepared. And now that interviewees know it's a possibility, hopefully the rest of you will do well! good luck to everyone!

Last year I had an MD (ob/gyn/biochem prof) and an anatomy instructor. Same experience the first guy did the talking the second just said hi/bye. It wasn't laid back, but I wasn't asked skill testing questions either.

Are there slots left in this school? My interview was moved from Jan.24,2012 to Dec.14,2011.What is post interview acceptance rate at this time?

Hey guys....those who are current students at Touro.
What do students do during summer time? How difficult is it to find paid research intership in Touro or other schools in nyc like Columbia? Do Touro offer paid TA positions to students?
Thx!

Touro has a number of faculty members who do research throughout the year, as well as a Dean of Research who has a number of projects he is working on. I cannot comment on whether the positions are paid or not because I am unsure. If you wish to do research in Columbia or other placed in NYC, you are on your own. I will say, though, that Columbia has an extensive listing of research positions, but in most cases, these jobs are for students who can commit 1-2 years for research- they are not summer jobs.

you can do a work-study program with certain professors (like anatomy) and help them set up stuff in anatomy lab and you can be a paid tutor.

Just a little confused on how they pick dates for your interview. I was invited in mid November but they only offered 2 dates in late December and 2 in January. The earliest one that was still open was January 18th. It seems like there are earlier dates (still in December). Is it considered "bad manners" to call and ask if your interview could be moved up depending on availability?

you can call and ask ask. Perhaps you will be in the NY area in early december and you don't want to have to make a trip out 2 weeks later. Worst case scenario, they say no you can't move it up, no big deal.

They say they interview candidates with similar stats in groups. perhaps its easier for them to compare people this way because everyone has similar scores so they can base it more off of the person instead of the numbers.

Thank you for the response! This is my only interview so far and I'm very excited about the possability of going here and just want the best chance for getting an acceptance.

Hello
I am scheduled for an interview on Jan 25th. The issue is that my wife will be very close to her due date. I wanted to ask any members if they are considering cancelling their Dec interviews or are willing to swap. I think they are 2 more interview dates for Dec (14th and 15th if I'm not mistaken). Please send me a pm(email) if anybody can help. Any other info you can share would be appreciated.

Thanks
🙂

I got an email from Joseph Perez and I called him to confirm. He said I should receive the letter within this week.

Interviewed 12/1, accepted! Very excited about this school!

Anybody else interviewing here tomorrow (12/7)?

I canceled my Dec.14 interview and withdrew my application.I hope somebody could grab the spot.
KCUMB Class of 2016

Called the admissions office today hoping for some news after interviewing last week and they said that letters were mailed out friday and that they couldn't tell me anything until I actually received the letter via snail mail 🙁

Any idea why they're e-mailing some and snail mailing others? It's excruciating

Does that mean everyone who interviewed had a letter sent out friday? I haven't heard anything yet and it's already Tues. you live in NYC right?, you definitely should have received something by now if it was sent on friday I would think.

Yeah, the DOA said all letters were mailed out on Friday :/

My home address is in NYC but I'm nowhere close by for school so I'm desperately waiting for my parents to get home and check the mail for me today haha

Well I sent back the response form last month saying I wasn't accepting the offer of admission and I just got another version of the acceptance letter in the mail today....interesting

Hey guys,
I have my interview/tour tomorrow morning! Any tips on the interview and the questions they will be asking. I'm not sure what to expect from the interview since I read that there's a mix of good and bad interviewers. Any help is appreciated!
thanks!!
