BU:
Pros
  • School seems mission-driven, strong commitment to the underserved
  • BMC is a safety net hospital, has level I trauma center
  • More research funding
Cons
  • Hard to reach via public transportation
  • Very expensive

Tufts:
Pros
  • Student body very happy, good balance of school and other interests
  • Tufts Medical Center also works with a diverse, underserved community in Chinatown
  • Newer, higher quality facilities for preclinical years
Cons
  • Fewer research opportunities/less funding
  • Very expensive

Basically these schools seem very similar to me and I am having a tough time making up my mind. BU seemed to offer a more compelling education with the potential for more unique clinical experiences. Tufts students seemed uniformly happy to be at Tufts and the atmosphere was very balanced and healthy, to an extent I did not feel at BU. Would appreciate any additional thoughts on the schools or how I should make up my mind in the next few days.

First year at tufts. I have 3 friends at BU in different years. BU is a great school with great faculty and clinical. But I will say that every time I talk to my BU friends about our schools, it seems like the attitude at BU by the administration is that you are lucky to be there and they don't really care too much. At tufts I feel like it's more of a community.
