I'm IS and I just got an invitation for Feb 3 yesterday (i'm guessing since I found it today but mail doesn't come on Sundays unless they really did send a pigeon over).

I'm in the city so maybe mail gets through faster? If anyone is coming for the Feb 3 interview date, esp if you're out of state and would like to stay at a hotel in Boston, I would be more than happy to offer a ride to North Grafton! A cab from Boston would be super expensive it's like 1.5-2 hrs away, and a 5-10 min taxi ride usually costs me $10-20 here it's crazy!!! Commuter Rail is super slow as well. Plus Boston is MUCH funner than North Grafton!

Anyhoos, I'll have room for a few peeps so lemme know! I'd love to meet you all (not in a creepy way I promise!).

My heart is set with my birdies, but I really can't ignore the financial aspect of what I'm getting myself into... esp because my parents are going to help me big time with the tuition.

So I'm keeping Tufts and Davis on my list (I would get in state tuition for both) until I have all my options laid out until I get their decisions and I can discuss it with my parents. I still haven't heard back from the org that my birds are at, but if it turns out that I'm actually not going to be able to regularly see my birds... then as much as I love CSU, I might have to go with the cheapest option. Tufts is still pretty expensive even for IS, but CSU would be $15K more/year... and I don't know how I can justify that esp when my super amazing parents are willing to sacrifice their future on me... esp if the reasoning is simply based on *wants*. But hey, if I don't get into either Tufts or Davis (and Davis is most likely a no) then it'll make my decision much easier.

I also didn't want to make any drastic decisions until I visited CSU, and made the drive out to my birds' org to see if that commute is actually feasible or not. If for some reason I realize that CSU is NOT the best place for me, then I really have no idea how to go about assessing my options. If I don't get into Tufts or Davis, but decide that CSU is not an option... I'll really have a hard time choosing between OSU and Penn.

I just wish I could hear back from Tufts + Davis already so that I can just make my decision and be done with it! I will be withdrawing from MN since I really can't afford to go on an interview there if I were to get one... and at this point, I don't think it's fair of me to hoard acceptances/interviews since in the end I can only attend one school.

I just got an interview for February 10th! (I'm in NY, btw) I'm so excited! I also got into Cornell but Tufts and Cornell are tied for my top two picks so it'll be a really hard choice if I get into Tufts too!

I can't wait for this Tufts interview...I heard that they're interviews are the most conversational and nicest around. 🙂 Can't wait to visit campus again too!

Interview Feb 4th! Woohoo! This is the first good news I've gotten from anywhere. 😀

Also, my envelope was sealed weirdly and I looked and realized there was another envelope with a letter in it STUCK to it! 😱 It was for a girl in Rhode Island. It didn't even have a postage mark on it. It must have gotten stuck going through the postage machine or something. We put a stamp on it and sent it off right away. So if you're in Rhode Island, there may be good news headed your way...

If I remember correctly, they interview roughly twice the number of IS applicants as they accept, so around 90.

In the ball park of ~90-100 IS, and ~160-170 OOS (45 seats each)?

Does anyone know how receptive/offended admissions would be to me calling and asking about switching interview days? I have a physiology lab the day I've been scheduled, and I'd really rather not have to miss a lab if possible... but I also don't really know how valid an excuse this would be to switch days. I don't want to sound ungrateful, you know?

Subquestion: Any OOSer scheduled for the 8th or 9th open to switching to the 10th? Just in case they tell me it's cool but I'd have to swap with someone...

Patty was not mad at all, but she did say she wished everyone would call about these things early so she can accomodate everyone. So...if you have an interview on 2/3 or 2/4 that you would like changed, please call as soon as possible. Thanks! 🙂

Kansas didn't go so well? 🙁 I just came back from there and I thought they were very nice. More conversational than Ohio, where I got questions fired at me left and right. Maybe Kansas was better than you thought...I think they're really ok if you don't know an answer to something, they just want to see that you don't fall apart or try to make stuff up. It probably went better than you think it did.

I came home last night to a letter from Tufts informing me that, although they consider me a qualified candidate, they have more qualified candidates than available interview places and they would like to put my application on hold.

"In the event that an opening in the interview schedule becomes available prior to February 10, we will contact you immediately either by telephone or email."

"Applicants on hold are not ranked and, unfortunately, we can not predict how many will be offered interviews. We will notify you as soon as possible, in order to help you plan ahead."

Anyone ever heard of this before? Is it strange that as an OOSer with a low GPA that i am out of my mind excited to still be in the running at all?

No you are not out of your mind at all. My GPA is low as well and I'm OOS, so I would kill to have a letter like that in my mailbox when I get home today. Even if its not an interivew its better than a flat out rejection.

Cypress is right, you're not out of your mind. I have a low GPA but was invited to Penn. my #1 school, total reach, i cant believe it. My parents hypothesis is that "they get so many students with stellar GPA/GRE that it becomes a little less looked at and they start looking hard core at your experiences and what things make you unique" It makes sense to me. If you have 1000 apps with all great stats you need to look at other stuff that sets the people apart. Granted, i dont mean insanely low GPA, just not a "3.8" kind of thing. just my opinion tho!! i was trying to make sense of it too lol
