Tuskgee University

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I am a first year student at Tuskegee and took part in serp as well. I can also help you with any concerns and questions you may have about vet school, tuskegee and/or serp, so let me know and I will be happy to help!

Tuskegee2015 or DogDoc2B: so it sounds like there were some people who interviewed for SERP and some that just had a regular interview; those that just had a regular interview...are they eligible for SERP as well? Thanks!

I asked admissions and they said no 🙁

Hey guys I know it's been a while but I just got finish with an intense week of veterinary midterm exams and can you say OOOOOMMMGGGGG lol, but it's all for the love of the veterinary medicine. I am very tired but I will try to reply with the best of my abilites. I interviewed at TUSVM last 2/25/11 it was intense, honest ,very open and my GRE scores and G.P.A was in the hands of the 2 interviewers. They were very nice and clear about teaching philosophies and expectations ,as I always state I attended Tuskegee University for undergrad and loved the place ! Tuskegee is family oriented and I really miss that because when curriculum and exams start it's going to get tough and that support is dire to keeping up not burning out.The faculty assured me at my interiview that they were for the students first and If I needed help it was a door step away. I can't speak for the program too much because I accepted an offer elsewhere moreso because of PBL curriculum .However I want to say this we have TUSVM vets on faculty at my school . Awesome is the firsrt word that comes to mind . These doctors are very skilled when it comes to clinical training and especially diagnostic work up and case oriented problem solving which is a big deal in my program. Sometimes I feel like man I missed out on all that lol but honestly I can always seek there knowledge. TUSVM will teach you the medicine they have been doing it for years and if you can get past the negative predictions and what I call ignorance and rumours I would say it's a program that will give you a top quality veterinary education and more 😀

So, SERP is a 2 month summer program in which you compete for spots in the incoming class. For the first month you take a bunch of skill based courses (study techniques, how to work in groups, etc). The second month is basically an introduction to the first 2 years of the vet school curriculum. How you perform on the exams is the main judge of whether you will get in. There are people there watching you, so there are other factors involved. It also depends on the number of people already accepted to the incoming class. All you can do is show your best you and do your best work. It's a great program to get you accustom to the work and pace of vet school, and even better if you get in because you'll have met most of the professors you will have your first 2 years.

Ok, thank you for explaining that.

I'd love to learn more about Tuskegee, because it's so close to Georgia that my boyfriend could keep his job, because he has so many horse shows in Auburn and would drive over to GA for the others. So just the reverse of what he does now.

What type of curriculum is it?

Has anyone heard yet about acceptance/rejection letters?

I contacted the admissions office and we should start hearing by the end if the month. Talked to one if the current students and she got her letter March 15 last year!!! Aaaahhhhhhh

Hey everyone! I was just about to ask if anyone had heard anything yet too 🙂 bmball, I feel the same way!!! :scared: Good luck! :luck:

I wish you all good luck! I'm super nervous for everyone else!

I know huh 🙁

Probably before the end of the month per admissions office.

Well...I guess I don't mind waiting a couple more weeks... 😀

@ bmball Just curious but which carrier service did your package arrive through? I wanna be on the lookout for my package. 🙂

It came in priority mail so someone has to be home when it comes. It was a regular size envelope but thick. Good luck everyone!!!!

Do we think they are mailing letters alphabetically??

It came to my permanent address. Kitkat...they might be I have no idea :/

Ok. Hopefully, I will be receiving mine soon 🙂. Fingers crossed. :xf:

I received my acceptance letter at my permanent address. When I saw that someone received an acceptance letter, I was expecting a rejection letter because I had just checked my mail. But then I received a text from my aunt telling me congratulations and I was in shock😱!! I wasn't expecting that at all. Congrats to those that are stilling waiting to hear..Good luck🙂

Congratulations to everyone who's heard good news! Question: did anyone's status changed on Tuskegee's website?

Does one of you have a blog or is planning to write one once school starts? I find it hard to find out more about the school, but would love to hear what students think once they are there.

My status did not change. I checked yesterday and today and it is still the same.

I plan on starting a blog once I graduate from undergrad because things are hectic right now. I haven't had the opportunity to sit down and let it set in that I'm actually about to go to vet school. But I will most definitely start my own blog because I want to be able to let others know what to expect and give them encouragement. Im still debating on which school to choose but If I choose TU, I will let you know.🙂

I'd like to read about any school. I read so many blogs and love to see everyone's reactions to the beginning of vet school and how they make it through. 🙂

Do we know if they send out rejections with acceptances? I stalked the mail all day and had my parents check at home in NC and nothing...:-(

narcisbily, I'm in the same boat 🙁 I e-mailed Amy recently so I'll let you know what she says. All the waiting is agonizing and depressing!

I received my acceptance letter officially Monday but missed the delivery. I'm a little unsure about where I want to go now, but I'm 95% sure I'm going to attend Auburn. So that's one spot available for anybody who is waitlisted!!!

So unfortunately I am an alternate:-( When do accepted students have to let the university know if they are going or not? I wonder how many are on the alternate list. I'm hoping Tuskegee isn't some of the accepted students' first choice because it is my only hope. 🙁

Ok so our letter states that we have to call asap to reserve our spot. We have to write a letter stating our decision to go and $435.50 due by April 30th. I bet the alternates will find out between now and May. But a lot of people call and decline before that date so maybe they will start pulling from the alternate list sooner. Good luck!!!!

bmball, thanks for the info. narcisbily, I'm in the same boat as you again 🙂 alternate too. I'm OOS. I'm also an alternate at my IS 👎
