Since we both moved up from the bottom 1/3 to the middle 1/3 it seems as though we have the same time line as to when we'll get our acceptance (if we do). Regardless, I like your prediction of July however if we are lucky and if there is more movement, it may be as soon as the end of June. Here's to hopeing

Edit: it seems as though there is some movement from the other schools waitlist 🙂

Edit Edit: The official UB class of 2011 facebook group has one less member, so thats one extra spot. Okay i've been spending wayy too much time online, im gonna go listen to some brand new and play guitar and I wont check SDN until tommo.

I think the fact that we seemed to have moved to the bottom (?) of the top third gives some excitement after the slow movement in the past week +.

i wanted to point out some good points (they are obvious---but it is nice to read, i think)

firstly, there is definitely movement on the waitlist we can't see...for example--all those folks in green, well they must have moved up at some point. we didn't see that action.

on days that no person posts---hang in there. someone is moving up--and , with that movement, you are closer to acceptance each day despite posting of news.

secondly, the middle 1/3 folks are up soon!

Hey guys, I was just wondering which types of loans you are going to take out. I haven't really started looking, and it just occured to me that I will definitely need to.
 
Grats avery! I wonder if that means the kids in green are in too.

According to my financial aid package, it looks like UB is definitely affordable using only Federal loans (I got about $40K in subsidized and unsubsidized Stafford Loans). This is nice because you don't need to worry about life insurance since the loans are canceled if you die. I plan on taking out loans for tuition (~$20K) and then minimizing the rest ($10K for living expenses?). First year loans can be lower than other years because we can work next summer.

I admire your optimism Girlsporty 👍👍 I too hope they'll hit the middle 1/3 on thursday. Let's see.
 
So, Mr. Rosso told me that two years ago the people in my position on the waitlist did not get in, but last year the people in my position did get in. Im pretty sure they hit the lower 1/3 last year, but does anyone have any idea on how far they went the year before?

Two years ago, if you search on SDN, they did not make the lower 1/3. I think they were in the bottom of the middle 1/3 when they stopped giving out acceptances.

This year is a different story being as they extended interviews for 2 weeks. Also there has been little waitlist movements at other schools as well. I am very optimistic that the will get to the bottom 1/3 this year, we just need other waitlists from other schools to start moving (which i am sure they will).

BTW, Mr. Rosso told me the same thing he told you, in that 2 years ago they did not all the people in my position. There are a couple of things that passed through my mind when he said this. Either 1. I am in the bottom of the middle 1/3/ OR 2. he was speaking generally in that they did not get through all of the middle 1/3 and his statement does not indicate where you are in the middle 1/3. I just wish they would tell us where we are. Either way, lets hope the move to the middle 1/3 soon. As girlsporty is predicting maybe thursday.

Yea, i came up with the same two hypotheses. The thing is, I saw my scores that the first interviewer gave me, and there was no discrepancy, so Im assuming im somewhere from the middle or upper of the middle 1/3... This is a pain in the ass. I have an acceptance at Albany and I'm still weighing the pro's and con's, but the $25,000 a year less is a very large pro for Buffalo.

How do you know that your score put you in the middle or upper middle 1/3? Just out of curiosity
 
My understanding was that they rated you with the numbers 1-5:
1- Acceptance
2- Upper 1/3
3- Middle 1/3
4-Lower 1/3
5- Decline

My interview was a while ago, but i remember seeing one or two 3's and a 2. So i just assumed from those that I would be middle possibly upper of the middle 1/3. But i found out the ranking afterwards, so I wasn't looking hard enough to memorize all of the numbers.

Either way, I do know that your interviewers rate you, you get presented to the whole committee, they vote, and then your average of the whole committee is your final score. If you make it above a certain cut off, you're in, etc etc. It's not based on the score your interviewer had written down and you snuck a look at... bad Chris!!! 😉

Haha, I didn't "sneak" a look at it. When i sat down for my second interview, she pretty much showed it to me and then moved it away. It was pretty weird. Either or, the second rating system would make much more sense because my first interview went absolutely horrible.

LOL!!! That's kinda odd. Anyway, you're in the waitlist so you must have done alright in one of the interviews! They DO use a 1-5 system to rank you before you go to the committee. I do not know the system they use once the committee has voted, only that their decision on you is final after they vote. Your place in the waitlist is based on how well other people did before or after you. If you make a certain threshold, you're in, below another threshold, you're out. In between.... and you post on an anonymous internet board for six months with other neurotic types about how great Buffalo is! :laugh:
 
I had Dr. Severin as my interviewer, I felt so comfortable and I thought it was just chill. I thought it went well and I'm not a confident guy hahaha.

Hey can you teach me too? I have always wanted to learn. I tried once, with an ex boyfriend. He took me to the batting cages but for golfers. I couldn't hit the ball at all!!! He got sooo pissed he took the club away and wouldn't let me try again. He got in trouble with his mom when we went back home though:laugh:

omg! we should totally go play golf together once we all get in! I want to learn too!

and I agree with girlsporty, making it down the hill is already a challenge for me. 😛

what fun is snowboarding if you dont break some bones or bruse some skin? Its all about confidence...if you think you can and feel comfy going down then u can do some pretty crazy tricks. But you also have to fall down to know how it feels and then understand that you can get back up, dust yourself off, and fall back down again 😉

i also really want to learn how to golf...hahaha
