Hey guys I am about to put up a post that says "F MY LIFE" really big - it's for the video we're making for the interview workshop... So just ignore it. Thx in advance

xx

F my life!!!!!!!!

Sooo excited for the interview workshop, especially since tantalizing tidbits of what co 2013 is planning keep showing up! 😀

I love that SDN is making an apperance in the workshop 🙂. Saturday is looking like it fun 😀

Ok, I'm getting annoyed because I can't even get through to make my interview appt...I've called like 7 times already today. 🙁 Spaces are filling up as I speak!

Zuneski, I called at least that many times and eventually started mindlessly hitting redial so I wasn't even really aware when I did get through until she said hello. The woman on the other line even made an analogy to getting through to a radio station. Keep trying!

I'm getting a little suspicious that since the phones are so busy, and no one has mentioned getting any invites today that they may have already sent them all out... really tired of waiting...

first post ever. hello everyone! 🙂

I got through on my second time trying today and scheduled for 2 weeks from today, on March 2nd. Also RSVP'd for the interview workshop and orientation.

I had that happen yesterday and finally got through today, but the day that I wanted was full, so I'm going to have to miss my favorite seminar AND try to reschedule an exam. It was that, or miss a week's lab. 🙁 Anyone with a March 5 time who would be willing to switch? 😉

However, I am NOT complaining. I'm so freaking excited to be even interviewing at Davis. 😍

Nyanko and squibby, sorry, I did not mean to belittle the anxiety of waiting at all. Good luck to both of you (and everyone else). :luck:

I called on Friday and it was crazy, I think I totaled around 15 calls before I got through! The woman scheduling the interviews was super nice and apologetic, so it is hard to be annoyed 🙂 Especially considering how frazzled she must be by the end of the day!
p.s. Twelvetigers I love your avatar, Dexter is quite possibly (and irrefutably) the best show ever made!

I feel your pain!! I'm trying to tell myself that Davis would not be so douchy as to send out all the invites early leaving people waiting in futile anticipation during the week they were actually supposed to go out.......
or maybe it's time to bust out the Ben & Jerry's and start crying
I wish they would just get it over with and let everyone into the loop (as to what's going on)! :scared: the anticipation is killing me!

I am also feeling the pain. If you are going to reject me just get it over with and quit making me wait. The waiting is killing me! :boom:

I did get my rejection from the VSTP today finally. I pretty much figured because I already spoke with the coordinator last Thursday and she said that I would be hearing from the Dean's Office about my DVM status.

edit: I also know of one other person who applied to the VSTP and was rejected but offered a DVM interview who didn't receive the email they tried to send on Friday morning. The admissions office says they are aware of the issue and were going to resend those invites. Not to give everyone false hope, and for all I know it could just be VSTP rejectees who were in that pile of interview invites, but I wouldn't give up hope for UCD just yet if you haven't heard. Just give them some time. 🙂

Yay! I finally got through today and made my appt. The woman was really nice and apologetic. This is the school I applied to knowing I didn't have a chance, so it was definitely worth the wait!

Thanks! I'm hoping you're right and that's why I haven't gotten an e-mail yet. Last year they made me wait until the very last minute (end of March) to find out I was rejected, and have been feeling like they may be doing the same thing to me again this year. However, considering how many interview invites I've received as an OOS student, I thought I'd have an interview invite from UCD by now. *sigh*

I see people have tried to call to schedule their interviews today. Did anyone get an invite today?

Did anyone get an invite today?

No invite and no rejection. My thought was that because of the holiday they decided to just answer phones today to attempt to have as few people calling as possible today and they will start to send out invites again tomorrow. That is what I am hoping for. I am just tired of being in the boat, Endless Waiting, I am starting to get sea sick.

I like your theory. I will go with it instead of crying myself to sleep thinking all the invites have been sent out...

For those of you that haven't received invites, are you still planning on making an appearance at the workshop?

It depends for me. I've gotten a tour of all the facilities by Dr. LeFebvre himself. I've seen the webcast thing too (same one posted as last year). I also have 3 schools to choose from (though they are all international).

If I don't get an invite by the end of this week, I'm not going and I'm assuming they're sending me a rejection e-mail (again) at some point before April 15. I'm 99% sure I'll go if I do get an invite. However, that will be short notice for work.

I like your theory too, DVMDream. I'm hoping you're right.

No I will not be attending the workshop. I can not afford to miss classes anymore and will be hopefully setting up an interview during spring break (if I get one). I also do not have the $$ needed to go to Davis twice. I watched the one they posted on-line and I am hoping that I might be able to find someone willing to give me a tour during the time I am there for an interview (again, if I get one.) Good luck to you and to you too chii chan! I will keep my fingers crossed for both of you!! :xf: :luck:

I have been trying on and off to get through for almost a week now. I am too busy to spend a full hour trying to get through.

The thing is, I just don't get the math. 220 appointments shouldn't be that hard to schedule. 1 or 2 minutes each and they should be done in a day. I grow less and less inclined to want to attend UC Davis. They just seem to be a disorganized mess.

I guess if I give up I've increased the odds for the rest of you with interviews, so congrats I guess.

They take longer than 1-2 minutes to schedule an interview, probably because at least when I called, the woman who answered the phone was very friendly and engaging.

And maybe it's just me, but I like that there is a range of days to pick from for interviewing and that they don't just assign you a time and if you can't make it, tough. You may see that as disorganized or whatever, though.

My personal opinion is that you come off as having a bit of an entitlement complex, but again, just my opinion.... 😉

edit: and if you decline, they'll give your spot to one of the people who is still waiting, so if you are going to I would do it soon and maybe someone here will get it!

Maybe you are right but I have consistently been disappointed with the Davis admissions office in comparison to the other schools I have applied/interviewed with.

Thank you Nyanko!

👍

Do you happen to know if they really are still sending out invites? I keep checking my e-mail, including my spam, but nothing has come in yet.

I finally got through today and asked for you if they are still sending out invites, and the answer was "yes". Each day they are still sending out 2 or 3 invites so there is definitely still hope!

Bueller? Bueller? Anyone who didn't get invites last week hear ANYthing this week yet? Although people have said they will be sending invites out over a week or maybe several weeks, the fact that no SDNer seems to have gotten anything this week has me worried that maybe they did in fact all go out last week. Anybody know if hope is still alive or not?

Normally, I'd be fine waiting for an official word whenever it gets to me. But with the workshop coming up Saturday, if I know I am getting an interview I will drop everything and drive all night Friday to be there. If I know I am NOT getting an interview, then I'll forget about the workshop. I've got an email all set to go to Kim O'Bryan just politely asking if she can provide any update, but I really hate to nag when they must be so busy up there. I'll try to wait a few more hours before sending it, but I feel like with how confusing their system is, I might need to push for more info.

EDIT: Just saw post above, OK, so they ARE Still sending out invites. So maybe there is still hope. But 2-3 invites a day?! Seriously?! WTF?! So at that rate they'll all be out by, what, June? Sorry, I love Davis and would love to go there, but that is just beyond ridiculous.

ugh. *closes e-mail window* So they'll be sending out like 6 more before the end of the week? That doesn't give me hope. 😕

Good luck to those with interviews! Hopefully, you'll be there to cheer us on from the student side next year!

Argh. Thank you for asking. I'm just going to assume that I'm not one of those lucky few who will be getting an invite and stop checking my email so frequently. At least then there is no disappointment and only a chance to be ecstatic if one happens to show up. It would have been nice to stay in CA (or in this country), but I guess I'll just start looking at my other options and trying to find the funds to pay for a deposit and international plane ticket. *Sigh.*

Good luck to those of you fortunate enough to get invites! I wish you the best of luck! 🙂

hey so I heard from a friend of a friend that Davis has a policy that if you apply to a grad. program at their school as well as vet school, you are automatically disqualified from the vet school app. process.
I have never read anything like this anywhere.....does anyone know if this is true......ohhh please don't let it be true:xf:

I haven't read that, but it wouldn't surprise me. IIRC, most of the schools that I applied to required you to get "permission" from any current grad program you are enrolled in - I think they try to be careful to not "poach" students from other programs.

Sounds like you are not currently enrolled, but just applied to grad program and vet school at same time? Maybe from your perspective, you know the odds of vet school are extremely long, so you are trying to be practical and keep other options open for your future. But look at it from the adcoms perspective - they want students who are 100% committed to vetmed. If there are 900 other equally qualified candidates who are going all in to pursue vet school, why should they consider someone who, from their perspective at least, might not be all that committed?

If you don't have an invite yet, don't panic! Last week I got the invitation email, but I was already accepted to and plan to attend OSU.

I finally got up the nerve to call Davis and decline the interview, so maybe one of you guys can snag mine! Good luck everyone!

I'm IS for Davis.

If you don't mind me asking, why did you choose OSU over Davis?

There were a few different reasons, some rational some not so much. I really really liked the atmosphere when I visited in the summer and when I went to interview, it just felt right being there. The facilities were great and the style of the curriculum appealed to me. The first year of tuition is going to be high, but after that I can get residency and pay in-state tuition. As reasuring as everyone has been about the cost and quality of education at Davis in the face of California's budget problems, it made me very nervous. The idea of tuition rising and programs potentially being cut or shrunk is not very appealing, though I know any decisions to that effect would not be made lightly. Right now I feel more secure with Ohio, no matter how silly it may sound to others. And of course, the fact that my boyfriend is from Ohio really helps. His parents will be about two hours away and they have been wonderfully supportive since day one. They have some connections in Columbus and it sounds like it would be fairly easy for him to find good employment there. The last little thing is a bit petty, more of a bonus than an actual factor in my decision. I know a girl that is planning on applying for next cycle and as nice as she is, it would grate on my nerves having her right behind me. I went out of state for my undergrad, to Wisconsin, and I really enjoyed meeting a completely fresh batch of people.

Thanks Llama Slug! Dylan is quite photogenic.

Thanks for the insight! I couldn't fathom why anyone would turn down a Davis interview, but only because it's my dream school. 😍 Your reasons for choosing OSU are perfectly reasonable. 🙂

I haven't received a Davis interview yet and I'm OOS, so I'll probably be seeing you at OSU!

P.S: Dylan is so cute!

Yeah, that's 100% not true as I read it.

Currently* I am sitting here in the lab where I am finishing up my MS at UC Davis and to where I applied to a Ph.D. in Genetics at UC Davis, preparing for my interview with the UC Davis vet school in 2 weeks.

So, no. I'd say that I was not automatically disqualified.

But look at it from the adcoms perspective - they want students who are 100% committed to vetmed. If there are 900 other equally qualified candidates who are going all in to pursue vet school, why should they consider someone who, from their perspective at least, might not be all that committed?

I don't know why attending or wanting to attend graduate school, presumably in the biological, biomedical, animal or veterinary sciences, would preclude anyone from being 100% committed to vet med.

*Yes, at 8:30 pm that is where I am.

For those of you who requested hosts they sent out the first round of hostee assignments to us. Good luck to everyone this coming week!

I'll take it!!!! Oops, wait a minute, I was rejected...is it possible that they may go back and interview those who were initially rejected if everybody gets upset over the "two invites a day policy"?? 🙄. I don't mind..half of an invite a day is fine with me if I get a chance to go to UCDavis. 😀

Would half an interview be like getting the subject line one day (ohmigodpanicpanic) and the actual message the next? 😉

Just got my email from my host and I'm wondering if it's an SDN'er but I'm a little hesitant to post or ask for real names on here (not that I have any illusion of MY anonymity for someone who actually tries halfway to figure it out, but other people might be more sensitive). Would it be weird to email them back and ask if they are on SDN? 😕😕

I've been wondering about this. Is anyone else taking budget cuts into consideration? Should we be concerned?

LOL you don't have to its me.

It wouldn't, and that certainly wasn't want I meant express if you took it that way. My point was, it would be pretty hard for most humans to simultaneously pursue grad school and vet school, and it might be reasonable for an adcom to want applicants to commit to one or the other before they would offer you a spot. But as your experience shows, maybe that's not a consideration for them.
