Actually, I was just about to ask if anyone else is having trouble even viewing the welcome website or the accept/decline page!

My web browser just spins and spins forever when I try to get there by clicking on a link from the email.

Anyone have the actual URL?
 
Just had to say a big congrats to all UC Davis acceptees! Especially KittyRex, whose insane use of exclamation points on every post makes me 😀 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We're going to vet school next year, wooo hoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just a word of advice on the coat sizes...they're unisex sizes and they run large!! Last year we were basically all swimming in our coats. For example, I am 5'6" and about average sized, so I got a medium. HUGE! They let us exchange them at the bookstore and I ended up settling on an XS!! Insane.

Ok, that's it. CONGRATS again! 🙂

congrats to everyone who has gotten acceptances!! you guys totally deserve it.

thanks to everyone for your encouraging words. vagirl and shelterurigirl, i too am sad i won't be joining you guys....i SO enjoyed getting to meet each of you and was really excited about being schoolmates!

if i learned anything from the undergrad admissions process (where i got rejected from a less selective school that was my first choice but accepted at a much more competitive school that i didn't really want to go to but ended up attending), it's that god's plan is way better than mine! apparently my davis plan was second best to whatever's in store 🙂

Wow, I'm going to have a little trouble in those huge lab coats! 😛 I'm 4'11" and I was hoping the XS might fit.

Is anybody else already scouring the housing ads for pet friendly apartments? My boyfriend may be moving with me... so we might be living closer to Sacramento for his job. Any locals/current students have any hints for good places to live in Davis or Sacramento? Would it be better to live in Davis & be close by school (are there instances where you need to be able to get to school in 15 min? Clinic rotations?)?

By the way, happy early birthday KittyRex! Maybe we'll meet at UC Davis! 😀
 
Lots of vet students live in West Davis because it's slightly closer to the vet school and some places allow pets. It's harder to find a place that allows dogs than cats. Take a look at Davis Wiki (just google it).

I made the switch from PC to a mac last two years ago and I have been really really happy. I love my mac. Even though the tablet pc looks tempting, I will be sticking with the mac.

I think a lot of the current vet students have the PC. Maybe they can advise you?

Hi Incendium,

I made the mistake of moving to sacramento when I first moved here. It was awful, I HATED it. Sacramento is like a checkerboard of good/bad neighborhoods. You can be in a really really good neighborhood and two blocks down everything changes and the neighborhood is scary. Its risky to move there without really knowing the area you are living in first.

I really recommend Davis. There are a ton of small duplexes and houses that are more affordable than the apartment complexes. My significant other and I found a two bedroom (1300 sq ft) duplex in the cutest neighborhood for $1200/mo. It has a huge backyard and its very pet friendly. Most of the condos and small houses are owned by property management companies and they are very pet friendly.

If you contact the property management places in Davis (found on Daviswiki.org) they might already have a list of places that will be available in the fall. We rent through Kings Properties, and we were just asked to renew our lease for next year. Also, craigslist will have a lot of people looking to sublease their place for the summer and even take over their lease for the school year. Lots of roommate agreements signed this month will fall apart before the summer.

hi everyone! does anyone have any idea how many "alternates" uc davis sends out?
 
Has anyone talk to Yasmine to see how many alternates there are?

Do they tell you where you are on the list?

I got my alternate notice on Friday. I really hope I get in this year.

So I talk to Yasmine and she said that I was #17 on the list so 23 people must decline before there is a spot for me.
They over admitted by 6 and usually take about 7-12 off the alternate list.
She also said that only 1/2 of the letters are out. (I am assuming that is 1/2 of the acceptances)

Yasmine said there was 20 on the Alternate list.

I am #17
they over admitted 6
and usually take 7-12
 
Anybody hear back yet today? I sort of figured there would be some SDNers jumpin and shoutin today with a response! It is the 23rd afterall. So far I've seen folks finding out on the 20th (CONGRATS TO YOU ALL! 🙂🙂🙂) But not much from folks who were supposed to find out today (like myself :xf::xf::xf:)...

Here's to waiting on pins and needles...

no kidding! I've shut off my cell phone to keep me from pestering them. I'm pretty sure they've got their hands full right about now! Still.... the lab phone is right next to me.... must... not... succomb.....
 
their computer sym was down this morning when I talk to them maybe that is what is going on

I hope it comes today - on their website it says (and it has said it for a while, this isn't a new update) that decisions would be emailed beginning the week of the 23rd.

Computer / Server issues. That's pretty much all it comes down to, IMO. Don't worry guys...the wait will be over soon enough.

They decide on the class, alternates and rejections all in one meeting every year, and always take multiple days to get the emails out. It's just the way they are. Sucks but what can you do...

I'm a student at UC Davis, and they sent this email to us today, might explain the lag. So, no worrying for no reason, looks like they just gotta play a lot of catchup with the emails over the next couple days maybe. Or not. Anyway, hope it helps!

At 9:02am power to the entire campus was lost. Due to the duration of
the outage computing systems and services were subsequently unavailable.

At 10:02 am power was restored to campus and remained on. Vet Med
computing systems and services were brought online between then and
10:45 am. At this time all systems and services are again available.
