Anyone get off the UCI alternate list after May 15th?

I got a call around 7 pm on thursday and I'm in! Ellena said she was calling 5 more people that evening.

im still waiting too...
wouldnt everyone who wanted to withdraw have to have done that by may 15th? so they already know how many empty spots they have right? Do they fill them up all at once?
B/c if so...then what are we still waiting for? those few spots of the students who end up getting off OTHER waitlists at schools that they go to? It doens't seem like there's going to be much movement if that's the case...am i missing something here?

A few weeks ago I got a random email saying I was on the alternate list and to fill our some current info (even though I was actually placed on the list in January)-- but, on the email it said to state if I wanted to stay on the list by June 2nd-- so maybe that was the date they were going to do something with the lists? Did any of you get that email?

I got the same email and so did my friend who is also on the waitlist. I just assumed everyone got the email, but I could be wrong.

That's what I thought too-- it seems like that means they were waiting until after June 2nd to get all the responses, but I don't know since people have already come off the list...Good luck to everyone!🙂

I dont want to give any false hope, but it seems that UCI pulls from the waitlist a lot. I got in from the waitlist last year in July, and a good bunch of my class is off the waitlist too. Hang in there if you can...its worth it.

Yea almost everyone i know at uci came off the waitlist my interviewer told me they get like half their class that way....but I haven't seen much movement on the boards this year so i'm worried...i figured they would have even more movement this year with all he scandals and stuff with the hospital going down....i guess so far i've been wrong.

I too expected more movement but it doesn't look like there has been too much...I wonder if things will change...I really hope they do!! SOON!

I called in last week (Week of 5/29), and Gayle told me that they were putting up a graduation ceremony last Friday and so didn't have much time to pick anyone off of the waitlist. She told me this week, there'll probably be some movement. But it looks like they haven't got around to it. So keep your fingers crossed!

Hi I got off the UCI alternate list two weeks ago on may 30th. I also withdrew my application this past Friday June 9th so that opens up another spot for someone to get accepted from the UCI alternate list! Good Luck to everyone!

Anybody have any info about how many people UCI accepts in june / july? I know its a lot...and also...do you guys think the class is full and they just take one person at a time as spots open?

There is a thread with last year's info somewhere. You can search for it. From that, at least, the waitlist movement should be far from over. Many people were admitted in June and even in July last year. So far, I haven't seen a lot of movement from UCI this year so hopefully it'll start moving again soon. You can also try to call in and ask. Good luck to us all.

I originally withdrew from UCI to go to University of Hawai'i John A Burns SOM, but I recently got into UCSF from the alternate list so I am now going to UCSF. I got left a message in my voicemail from the associate dean of admissions and she did not mention any specifics about the alternate list. It was fairly brief message stating that I got accepted to UCI from the alternate list.
Good Luck ABC! I am sure there will be lots of movement in the coming weeks from what I have heard from past students. Hope that helps a little bit.

I wonder why there aren't as much movement for UCI's waitlist here on SDN. Last year, batches of people were accepted throughout June and July. This year, so far, only three or four have posted about getting off the waitlist. Is everyone in hiding, or is it that UCI's packed this year?

Spoke with the admissions office today. They said that people were dropping spots consistently (on a weekly basis). These spots were being filled as they opened. Movement has been taking place, albeit slowly. She also mentioned that there was no chaotic "rush" of movement this season.

On a side note, the person with whom I spoke confirmed that if you have been accepted to another medical school, you have a certain date by which you cannot enroll at another institution. For example, at SLU this date is Aug. 7th. Starting that day, even if accepted to another school, one would not be able to drop SLU and enroll anywhere else. Each school has a unique date, and this date is forwarded to every admissions office so that it is well-known. Check with your program if you're worried about it.
