how many total acceptances (not filled spots) do you guys think they handed out so far?

< 75
< 100
< 150

I know they gave out ~238 total acceptances for the 2004 entering class after interviewing ~727.

But I think this year they'll be interviewing closer to ~600 total (at least according to their updated/new webpage), so I'm not sure how the acceptances number will change.

around 125 i say. just the minimum to fill their class so far. plus they probably take another 40 off the waitlist later on. so i think only about 70-80 straight accepts left.

has anyone heard anything about drew students?

does drew only accept african-americans??

how well do drew and geffen students get along in class?

drew program accepts people of all nationalities: there are african-americans, latino-americans, indians (as in from Hindustan), caucasians and persians. Unless you ask specifically, you don't know who's a drew and who's a geffen student. Everybody gets along really well...

Actually, they interviewed 758 last year and accepted 245 according to the lastest US News info. The numbers you have are for the 2003 entering class. And the admissions lady that I talked to said that they interviewed about 800 this year as well. Boo. But I certainly hope that the number 600 on the website is more accurate though 😉

So have any of the 4/5 people received *good* news?

My status said a decision was reached, but they wouldnt tell me over the phone, and I cant believe a letter from LA to SD can take a week.

Yeah I tried getting my decision over the phone and they woudn't give it to me either. Since they made the status changes on Thursday 4/7, maybe they weren't actually mailed out till then. Plus the letters have to first go out through campus mail, which is notoriously slow. If anyone receives their letter, please post. Thanks.

I called on Fri morning to find out about my status changed on 4/5;the admission lady told me my status and also said that the letter would be sent out today, which was Fri. I live in OC and usually my letter comes on Tues ( according to the last 2 letters for secondary and interview) .....so you guyz should receive your letter soon. Good luck to everyone!!! :luck: :luck: :luck: :luck:

You can add me to the list of people waiting for a decision. I interviewed in February, and had two interviewers who both told me that they would advocate very strongly for me. But alas, still no love from UCLA adcom yet 🙁

Still haven't received that magic letter. I'm getting pissed. They could've just told me through the phone.

I feel ya. But at least you're in Cali. I'm goina have to wait even longer since my letter has to travel to the East Coast. Maybe it'll arrive tomorrow for you?

Got the letter today, unranked waitlist. Doesn't seem like there are any acceptances in this batch. Good luck to those who are waiting.

that sucks lunacake.
Is it just me or does it seem like UCLA has been a giving a lot more waitlists this year compared to previous years (at least from what can be deciphered from reading previous year's threads).

My friend just got back from her interview... she was the only person there 😱 i don't know what they're doing now, perhaps interviewing the last few candidates on separate days before they make their final cut... maybe something at the end of this week?

in any case, good luck to everyone still waiting!

Got it today. on hold, which I assume is code for rejection. Anyone *ever* hear of people enrolling from hold status?

Oh, and it wasn't even sealed properly. 🙄

It really seems like the class is totally full. No one has gotten into UCLA in forever. Granted SDN is a very small group of people interviewing I'm sure... but its still strange that no one has gotten in since January. Its kinda depressing actually. 👎

yeah, its hard to imagine them handing out all the slots, especially when the first acceptance batch came out around Feb 1, but you never know. There are some schools that haven't filled their class yet, and they started way back in sept/october, so hopefully, UCLA didn't facilitate things to much.

I just keep having this gut feeling that it's not full.

Has the admissions committee said anything to anyone about more letters (of any sort) being sent out? When i've called i don't have a chance to ask anything before they say "it'll be atleast 4-6 weeks" (i interviewed in march)

yep, 3 straight batches with no acceptances. March 7, March 15, April 5.
What I think might be happening is they might be weeding out their final accept batch until they are able to come up with a reasonable number at which they would release it. This is all speculation mind you.
it seems like tomorrow is going to be huge adcom meeting where some major decisions will be made. Some of my sources have been telling me that almost everybody who interviewed before the middle of march should be hearing something from UCLA next week. good luck.

hey uclastudent. aren't u going to 2nd look weekend this Saturday. Can you ask the administrators this. Have they filled their class and will they be giving out anymore straight acceptances.
Thanks

Hey Long_John, I'll do it if I get the chance. I don't know how much time there will be to interact with the powers that be ... it looks like a lot of presentations.

Oh, and I don't know if this means anything, but a friend got accepted to UCLA/Drew yesterday. That's a different admissions committee, right?

I’ve been hearing from adcom "mid-April". I'm not sure if they mean status updates, actual adcom meetings, or whatever...but I’m almost positive that a good sized acceptance batch is imminent. I totally agree with Long John and believe status updates, at a minimum, will probably happen before April 22.

For those waiting to hear: I dont really think toooo many people have been accepted because looking at tomorrow's agenda, one part of the day will take place in the Wilson Student Center, which does not hold a great deal of people--unless they are doing it in the patio area outside...

By the way, to those attending, do you know if we get free parking, and if so, which Lot? Thanks and good luck to everyone 👍

I looked over this thread and it seems the first acceptance batch was given around the 26th of January and the last acceptance batch was given around the 3rd of March. So if the class is full, the adcom would have given 121+ acceptances in just a little over a month.

This is kinda hard to fathom, unless of course there were more acceptances after March 3 which we didn't hear about (outside SDN) 😕

By the way, I hope you guys enjoy your day tomorrow. 👍

yes. free parking. you need to enter at the kiosk from westwood blvd and let the parking attendant know you are there for SOM Recruitment Day and you will be directed to the appropriate parking area.

When did your friend interview?

How was second look weekend? Did they anyone hear any juicy information.

It was absolutely fabulous. We had a fancy breakfast and lunch, got cool free stuff, and saw a standardized patient. There were a lot of presentations on the curriculum, financial aid, etc. They do a much better job of wooing applicants on Recruitment Day than on the interview day.

I didn't hear any juicy information, but I can tell you that there were ~60 to 70 people there. I'm not sure if that's representative of how many have been accepted, though (especially since UCSD's second look day was also yesterday).

I know they sent out some more letters last Friday (well definitely one according to my friend's status page at least)

ummm really,
i didnt get that status page change. did anyone else?

derf, I was referring to just students. I know that they divided the students into groups of 7-8 for the PBL session and that there were at least 8 groups.

I was actually surprised that they will send me a final decision now... I got an email from the associate dean saying that they are on a holding pattern until May 15... so I take it as waitlist. I interviewed at the end of Feb.

Good luck to you guys.

why do you say that?

so i guess NO status changes are now better than status changes, at least until May 15.

anyway, I hope that's not the case for you guys :luck:

when did the dean send you this email?

my friend interviewed in early march and had a 4/15 status change.

So what does a holding pattern mean until May 15th? They couldn't have filled their class by Feb back when you interviewed.

On a personal note: I think rolling admissions suck! 👎 lol

gonius said:

gonius, there could have been withdrawals in between the dean's email and the actual status change. Some spots could have opened up.

I would just hang on and wait for the letter.
