Do you guys think its good to start sending updates right away after getting a waitlist or waiting two or three weeks until it gets closer for the committee to start looking for waitlisters??? ---cuz im pretty sure theyre not gonna start looking at us until after they look at all the people they still have to interview...

what do you think long john?? you seem to be pretty knowledgable about the whole process....

yo dr. boo,
my recommendation would be to wait a few weeks before sending anything. Digest where you are, reflect on the situation for like a week. Then get to writing your stuff. Treat the writing as if you were writing your personal statement. This is your last chance to sell yourself (be happy, you were given an additional chance unlike some who have been rejected). Go through multiple drafts and try to get it in before the end of march. they have to start reviewing waitlisters in April if they want to know who to accept in May and you want your file to complete when waitlisters go for review.
Stuff to write:
Letter of Intent (crucial!)
update letters (could help if you have new stuff to add) - this could be part of your letter of intent
letters of rec from professors which weren't part of your original application (if you know them well enough that they could write you good stuff).

congrats to those who had their letters sent on 3/4. Does anyone know what this means for people that interviewed back in november but haven't had any status changes? You would think if they were gonna reject us they would have already done it? The committee is meeting tonight. Maybe they don't know whether to reject me or wait list me. Is there even anyone in the same boat as me?

My prediction is that the next status page update will be up within the next 3 business days (Friday, Monday, or Tuesday for anyone who interviewed before feb 1st. Get ready to go through this nutty anxiousness again next week folks.

Well, I'm pre-interview so... It's all right, it was a long shot since I'm not a CA resident. I really liked USC anyway, but I must say UCLA tuition would have been nice. Good luck to you all who are waiting to hear if you'll become a bruin (or remain a bruin).

its 9:07 a.m. and the website (only the admissions section) is still down. Are they doing a mass load or something?

I interviewed way back on 11/10.....because it was so long ago, I have basically given up and am almost certain that they put the post-interview rejection in the mail.

I don't really get it. If they wanted to reject me they should have already. If they wanted to accept me they should have a long time ago. I guess if I was borderline reject..or borderline accept..chances are I got wait listed. I suppose UCLA could just be so slow and disorganized about it. Only reason I'm worried is that I've gotten a bunch of interviews to a ton of awesome schools and heard mostly rejections. At least I find out in ~1 week.

this is definitely one of those heard it "through the grapevine" info. He's waiting post-interview also and even he didn't have a direct source.

One of those things that freaked both of us out.

glad to hear it is through the grapevine. i really, really hope that your friend is hard of hearing (in a good way that is 😀)! i cant imagine that ucla has given out so many acceptances that they would be full, considering they didnt start sending any out until relatively recently. if your friend did hear correctly, that would totally suck.

Of course, this doesn't take waitlisting into account, but I don't think you guys should worry just yet. People hear all kinds of things that end up being way off. Good luck! 😀

I highly doubt that the class is full. I know I've posted this before, but looking at mdapplicants.com, only 9 people have been accepted for this cycle. For 2004, 21 people were accepted. Of course, this doesn't take waitlisting into account, but I don't think you guys should worry just yet. People hear all kinds of things that end up being way off. Good luck! 😀

(Granted, not all those admitted will matriculate, but it would seem like they should be filling up at some point, at least their preliminary class size.) But I agree that it does not appear that many at SDN have heard. Has another batch been sent since March 15?

true, I think their is going to be at least another batch of acceptances by the end of this month and maybe even this week.
Even if UCLA's class is 'full' remember that UCLA accepts (including waitlist acceptees) about twice as many students as it takes to fill their class so even then UCLA is only half-done accepting students.

im on the unranked waitlist and from what i can tell this is the good waitlist, the second priority is the kiss of death, the pre interview hold equivalent at this stage. the unranked is the one with most if not all of the movement, the second priority is god knows what. more info on my waitlist thread (blatant plug) and on last years waitlist thread (linked in mine).

i now hate this damn status page. i check it just about everyday, even though i dont have to since i am compulsive on this site and will know of changes if they happen thanks to you guys, especially my buddy long john. each time i check that status site, it is the same, forms are due 9/30/04 and no final decision sent yet. i think i am going to have a mini heart attack if/when it actually changes to final decision sent. what am i going to do when the envelope actually arrives? maybe i should have the paramedics on stand by. this process is aging me rapidly.

the status change is nice, it was strangely exciting. the waves of relief then paranoia after you get the status change are not fun. also the wait is just utter awfulness. the day i knew it was coming i was totally nonfunctional at work, coundt concentrate on anything, had butterflies all day long. anyway thought id share
