i was told by a student on the committee that if you haven't heard back and you interviewed a while back chances are you are waitlisted or rejected. my status page hasn't changed at all meaning they are still trying to decide if they should reject or waitlist me. It is dissapointing after I feel like I've done so much for the UCLA community and what not. Speaking of UCLA any of you guys see the crazy fire in club california on roebling? It was insanity...i thought running through smoke filled halls was just in the movies.
wtf, there was a fire at club cali. i lived there last year. sheeat. what happened, did the whole place burn down.

One thing i have noticed so far is that people who interviewed with a student have gotten in. I actually don't know anyone who didn't interview with a student that got in. They said it was completely random and depended on the schedules of the students but it seems like a completely unfair advantage to have a student who can speak in your favor. If they select people non-randomly to get a student interview because somethign stands out on their application then this is a totally different story and is more fair. Has anyone else noticed this?
I heard the opposite, that student interviewers were only for borderline/weaker candidates.canttouchthis said:One thing i have noticed so far is that people who interviewed with a student have gotten in. i was at a friends place at like 830 last night and i heard windows break and people yelling. we looked out of the window and saw the apt next door had flames shooting out of the windows. When we got down stairs there was a huge crowd watching and the fire dept sent a hose through my buddy's balcony. they contained it pretty quick but I'm sure it destroyed at least one or two whole apts. club cali is a hellhole and the management deserves to be in jail. especially that russian girl.
that russian girl is such a b1tch. I hate that *****. She messed us up so many times last year and was so anal.canttouchthis said:i was at a friends place at like 830 last night and i heard windows break and people yelling. we looked out of the window and saw the apt next door had flames shooting out of the windows. They charge too much and took over a third out of my security deposit.
those dinguses.
they deserved what they got.

That's really all there is to say about that.
really sorry to hear that iggyboop. i was rooting for you. 🙁
by the way, when did you interview?
iggyboop said:Rejected. 😡

Sorry, getting rejected post interview really hurts.
so someone was mentioning that it seems like having a randomly assigned student interviewer helped people get in, so i was just wondering for those that have gotten in and those that haven't, did you or did you not have a student interviewer?
i didn't have one and haven't heard back yet, so i'm curious to see if there is a correlation of any kind.
also, do you guys think ucla has already sent out most of their acceptances? im wondering about the whole "if you interviewed a while ago and haven't heard back you're probably waitlisted or rejected thing," especially since people have heard that ucla randomly reviews completed files, not sequentially, and supposedly they were running behind/late this year.
sorry, ucla is making me anxious now.

Hi. I only had one interviewer, a faculty member. I thought it went horribly, but things turned out well.

I'm sorry, iggyboop. 🙁
Dear Anonymous,
Your application to the David Geffen School of MEdicine at UCLA is complete and has been acted upon.
The committee on Admissions considers you to be a qualified candidate for medical school. We have thus assigned you to a waiting list without ranking. Candidates from the waiting list may be selected for vacancies in the class if they become available.
In order that all the students receive consideration, it is important that you inform us, in writing, at your earliest convenience if you wish to accept a position on the waiting list. FOr the same reason, it would be most helpful if at a later date you wish to withdraw from the waiting list you would notify us of your decision. Please keep us up to date by submitting any additional credentials which might be important for your record.
Thank you very much for your continued interest in our medical school.
Sincereley,
Neil H. Parker, M.D.
AT LEAST ITS NOT A REJECTION..... 🙁
so what are my chances now????

Wow, DrBooBoo, that stinks. 🙁 UCLA apparently does have good waitlist movement, though, so all is not lost.
Your chances are excellent. There are many, many people in my class who got in off the waitlist. UCLA moves people in off the waitlist really well. I got in off the waitlist. But you must stay on top of things and update the admissions office w/info. You MUST show them you're interested in UCLA - I think they like it. At least that's what I did.DrBooBoo said:Dear Anonymous,

Got extra LORs, sent a Letter of Intent to enroll, came by and talked to them all the time, things like that.
what % get in off the waitlist. I always thought like 40-50% but never knew for sure.JimDiGriz said:Your chances are excellent. There are many, many people in my class who got in off the waitlist. Anyone receive their letters today from the 3/7 batch. I'm wondering if there are any acceptances in this batch or is it simply a 'kiss of death' batch notifying applicants that they are no longer being considered for admissions at the school.

"they are still deliberating and decisions will be sent the end of march"

I was in the 3/4 batch and interviewed in late Jan. Good luck to you!

I'm goign to interview at UCSD over spring break... but i hear they're really class based and competitive... not really interested in that, but you never know.
99% chance of attending LA at this point.
i got a waitlist, the torment doesnt end....
congrats to those that got in and to those yet to hear!
goddamn, i guess its time for new lors and letters of interest and the like?

better than a rejection, kitten. you still got a good chance.opinionkitten said:i got a waitlist, the torment doesnt end....

here's what i have been able to gather.
if you were in the 3/4 batch = acceptance
if you were in the 3/7 batch = rejection/waitlist
sketchy adcom. and the thing is the 3/7 letters are getting out much faster. I knew someone who lives 30 miles away from UCLA who got his rejection letter (sent 3/7) yesterday while some people in LA got their acceptance (supposedly sent 3/4) only today even though the acceptance had a two mail days head start.
Long John, it could be that the status page changes were made on 3/4 and 3/7, but I'll bet that all of the letters were sent out on the same day. They probably started changing status pages on Friday afternoon, but didn't finish before leaving work. I'm almost positive that all of the letters went out at one time.
I'm sorry, opinionkitten. 🙁 But, it's way better than a rejection, and UCLA has good waitlist movement.

most likely you are correct UCLAstudent about when they sent out the letters, but the way they loaded the status page gives the applicant some idea about what his decision is.UCLAstudent said:Long John, it could be that the status page changes were made on 3/4 and 3/7, but I'll bet that all of the letters were sent out on the same day. Yes, it appears that way. How lame. 👎
Derf ... I think he means the date that letters were loaded. Look up a few posts and he explained it better.
Are you watching the game? 🙁 So embarrassing.

I just interviewed last week and i know its early and a long shot, since my interviewer said my mcat was HORRIBLE, but i was wondering when i should hear back roughly.
thanks and good luck everyone
The admissions office said it takes about 6-8 weeks. Don't take that literally though... UCLA is sloooow.

party line on this is between 1/3 and 1/2 of the waitlist gets a spot, depending on the year.
i cant tell if i should play it cool or like mail 10 letters and call the office incessantly. perhaps something in between would be ideal... damn waitlists. uclastudent, get into sf and gimme your spot, damnit!

Do you guys think its good to start sending updates right away after getting a waitlist or waiting two or three weeks until it gets closer for the committee to start looking for waitlisters??? ---cuz im pretty sure theyre not gonna start looking at us until after they look at all the people they still have to interview...
what do you think long john?? you seem to be pretty knowledgable about the whole process....

Hi Guys,
This is my 1st Post ever on SDN....Been reading your posts like mad this last week or so...up till 3am last two nights...Just wanted to say thank you for all your insight and information.......you've been of great service to my (what was) dying self-esteem due to the agony of waiting......
Here's my story if you're interested... I freaked out when I got my letter today...tried holding it up to the light to see some words....it read:
"The Admissions Committee is impressed by your achievements and is confident....blah blah blah..."
Like the rest of you would think...I freaked the HELL out thinking, S#@*....F*&#... they're gonna patronize me just to reject or waitlist me. So I paper-cut my finger trying to open the damn envelope........................................
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.....and the damn wait was so worth it.
(I interviewed in Jan., Status change and letter dated 3/4.)
BEST OF LUCK to ALL still waiting!!!
Thanks for all your help and encouragement UCLAStudent, Long John...and everyone else!!

congrats roxetter! I concur that folks here have been invaluable to the applicant pool and we're all very appreciative.
BTW, you folks who interviewed in January, can you be a bit more specific. Was it late Jan, early January? I'm trying to gauge the timeframes of when the committee meets and sends stuff out, if its possible.

Thanks derf! I wish you the best! I interviewed Jan.12. (I have a friend who interviewed late Jan. and has not heard yet.)
*Adding to my story....I did not get my letter in the mailbox today, it was handed to me by a neighbor....My letter was misplaced in his mailbox instead....CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT??!!! I'm going to his house right now to rethank him and kiss his toe!!!

congrats to those who had their letters sent on 3/4. Does anyone know what this means for people that interviewed back in november but haven't had any status changes? You would think if they were gonna reject us they would have already done it? The committee is meeting tonight. Maybe they don't know whether to reject me or wait list me. Is there even anyone in the same boat as me?
