UCLA letters sent out--Check Status Page

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
norcaler here, just checked my mail, the letter didnt come today, so i guess tomorrow 😱

I agree with this and with what RPedigo said. It's got to be a mix, but I'm sure a lot of them have to be waitlists/rejections as none have been reported thus far.

Is there anyone else out here WITHOUT a status change still???

no status change

when were the first rejections/ WLs given out last year?

anyone in SoCal get the letter yet?

Ugh. NO status change here!

Interviewed end of Nov. Geeze even most of the non-rolling schools have already gotten back to me.

MsJLewis...any word yet? I just checked after having been away from this thread for like 3 hours and coming back to this madness!!! :scared:Good madness I hope. I got a status change dated 3/18, I'm OOS.

God have mercy on me....

Still nothing here. 😡

Good luck! :luck:

did anyone send a letter of interest/intent post-interview?

i sent a letter of intent post-interview, way back in the middle of january. i interviewed in november. does anybody know if they actually read such letters and consider them when making a decision? do they actually make a difference?

I did. I hope it got there in time. If it did, I hope it helped.

ucla never sends out mixed batches in the past few years. its time to accept the truth and just acknowledge it as a waitlist or a rejection. based on how things have occured in the past it will most likely be an unranked waitlist, but you never know. and if im being cynical well its because im right there with you guys.

I'll acknowledge it's a waitlist or rejection once I have the letter in my hand.

no status change for me......but i interviewed two weeks ago

letter sent 3/18.

i was told by my interviewer, "You will be accepted to the medical school of your choice, and we would love to have you here."

So, i still have hope. But, if all these letters are rejections/WLs, and I get a WL, i'm going to mention this fact in my letter of intent.

yeah, interviewers need to be more careful in what they say...

To counter that, my letter was also sent on 3/18.

I was told by my interviewer, "Chicago is a great city. You would love it there. Besides, wouldn't it be nice to leave California for a while? Experience life elsewhere for a change?"

Ouch.

I don't think it matters if the interviewer tells you "I'd love you to come to our school" or not. Sometimes they don't have enough power to get you in. It's much easier to hurt your chances at acceptance during an interview than it is to help your chances. Unless your interviewing with the Dean of Admissions.

Speaking of which, did anyone here interview with Dr. Neil Parker himself?

yeah, interviewers need to be more careful in what they say...

true. i know too many instances, personal and 2nd hand, where amazing interviews only ended up with a r/wl.

a friend of mine was wl at dgsom last year after his interviewer told him he was exactly what dgsom needs more of; i think he even promised him that he will give his VERY highest recommendation to the committee.

Do you guys think they have sent out enough acceptances yet though?

Also, any news SoCal'ers?

I'm about 15 minutes from UCLA... letter sent 3/18/08, Did not get the letter today.

not in today's mail. 🙁 sent 3/18, and expected it today b/c ChristianJames1 got his in a day. myyyy goodness!

What a week. Everyone keep each other posted! :luck::luck::luck::luck::luck::luck::luck::luck:

Hey all,

Status change for me too. At first, I was really excited seeing as how I've been freaking waiting for a change for a long time, however, reading most of the responses so far has been gosh darn depressing.

The mail came today and nothing was there (my parents house is in the inland valley and that is where my mail is going, since I'm at an OOS school).

UGH, at this point, I'm not sure what I'd want if I weren't accepted. While a rejection hurts, it seems like waitlist is basically equal to a rejection at UCLA.

Well, good luck to everyone, including myself. I'll post my decision once I get it, after all the tears have been shed.

No status change for me, although I didn't interview until a couple of weeks ago. I will be writing a letter of intent as UCLA has become my top choice after the interview.

As for what interviewers say, my NYU interviewer wrote (in response to my thank you email): "It was a pleasure to meet and chat with you. I have no doubt that you will get into any medical school of your choice and I hope that NYU will be on the top of your list."
Decision: Waitlist

Don't get too worked up about a good/bad interview. The interviewer only has so much say in your final decision.

tomorrows a big day for everyone then

unless you live across the country like me...

The suspense is killing me! I can't take it!

i'm just happy my letter has been sent. now, i just hope i get it by friday.... don't want to stress over it through the weekend.

I had NN and I did have a status change.

It is almost definitely a mix of acceptances, waitlists, and rejections, because they have not filled their class size yet. More acceptances must have been put in this batch to attempt to offer as many acceptances as they have seats (per AAMC guidelines).

As will I. I live in Riverside, an hour out from LA.

i looked at some past years threads, it seems like they havent ever sent out mixed batches...well at least from my 10 minutes of searching. i guess its bad news then because theres no way ALL of us would get accepted, more likely that its the opposite. sorry for being a bummer, i hate myself too.

So I just called to do a status check and the guy said my app is still out with the committee. Not 30 seconds later I checked online and it says letter sent 3/18! Makes me wonder if my letter is really on the way or not...should I call them back??? And I'm all the way in Florida...it takes forever to get mail here. This is killing me!

any news for you, LadyDoc2?

Congrats on UCSD! (I saw your mdapps)

I just called and was told I got put on the unranked waitlist. Had my letter sent status change yesterday as well.

My status changed like all of yours.

I live as close to UCLA as possible without being on campus, and got NO mail today so I doubt anyone will get anything today.

UCLA Medical School probably sends its mail out through the UCLA Mail System which eventually feeds into the US post office. But because the mail goes through UCLA Mail Services, add an extra day on to your estimates. So if you want to calculate when it will come, assume it made it to the post office today.

I just called and was told I got put on the unranked waitlist. Had my letter sent status change yesterday as well.

Who did you speak to and what did you ask them? I would love to find out what my decision is before I get my letter, but most people who were calling weren't getting an answer out of them... any help on how I could also find out?

Ah, alas, the steady stream of acceptances has ended. At this point, I guess I would consider myself fortunate to get onto the waitlist. 🙁

they reluctantly told me a decision over the phone (after explaining i'm going out of town.) waitlist here too~

Thank you!

My letter is at home!! I have to be here at work for another hour then sit in LA Traffic. I will post as soon as I can what it says...

:scared:

I'm not sure who I spoke to, just called the office and got someone. However, my situation is a bit unique as I had just changed my address information yesterday and am going out of the country for the next two months. I wanted to see what address the letter had been sent to and she just offered the information herself...I didn't actually ask her for my status.

Well since we're going off-topic to entertainment...

"It hurts, doesn't it? You can't believe what fell. All your dreams, dashed. Hopes down the f*cking drain. Your fate, he is sitting right beside you."

geeeeez this thread is getting intense. I interviewed 3/12 and think I may have a heart attack before I ever find out.

Congrats to everyone who was accepted/waitlisted and good luck to all who are currently finding out!

On the interviewer note: I had a super nice interviewer who told me that she really hopes I get in, which makes me think that the interviews don't have as much pull at UCLA as the do other places. Makes sense, because they seem to do everything else bass-ackwards too.

On a relatively unrelated note, I had a really awkward experience yesterday that I think only you guys can understand.
So I went to the admissions office to drop off my letter of intent/update yesterday.
I was kind of nervous walking to the office for some reason, and here's how it went:

Brain: Why are you nervous? Just be calm, what could happen?
Admissions office guy: Hi, can I help you?
Brain: Caaaaalm...
Me: Uh, yeah, I have a letter of intent slash update ... thing
Brain: Oh god
Admissions guy: Oh, ok, I can take it.
Me: Yeah, I thought I would stave (yes, with a 't') the stamp since I had to come to CHS anyway
Brain: sTave????
Admissions guy: Oh, something something UCLA, right?
Brain: I think he said, 'you go to UCLA, right?'
Me: Oh, no I actually work here.
Admissions guy: Gives confused look, points to my badge, and says 'I know'
Me: Nervous laugh, oh...right.
Brain: Say something witty, quick!
Me: Well, thanks so much. I then give him two 'thumbs up' signs, and walk away.
Brain: You're an idiot.

I'm pretty sure he was staring in disbelief as I walked away. I just hope he has absolutely nothing to do with whether I get in or not!!
