Will anyone else be working on their UCSF supplemental tonight instead of partaking in Halloween activities? That will be the extent of my night, formulating a good response as to what I have learned thus far about the human condition.

LoL... I feel you!

I am. I think I got an okay answer for the human condition question... 5 more questions to go..🙁

Dropped it off at the post office this morning. It was the toughest app of them all...

Lol... I am working on it RIGHT NOW. I made a deal with myself- I finish the supplemental and I get to go have fun tonight. If not, I stay home and WORK! Got two more essays to go =P

ugh i'm working on mine too.. determined to finish ucsf and touro tonight.. and then start ucsd... i haven't even started ucsd.. sigh. i think they should let me in because i go there.. =)

I'm almost done with Western, but I haven't even started on UCSF yet!! Thank goodness the deadline is on the 3rd this year!

I am with you all. Just need to proofread once again and I should be ready to submit on Monday.

We're allowed to have it postmarked by November 3rd, right?

I go to UCSD too! Well, I'm taking the fall quarter off, but am coming in the winter to finish a couple of classes. I went to the Open House last year and they said they do favor UCSD students. I think a third of 60 students in a class are UCSD graduates.Too bad I'm not going to apply there this year because I know my chance is slim. Good luck working on your apps!

Yes, we're allowed to have it postmarked on November 3rd. I have OCD, so I've checked just to make sure.

oh, very cool! what makes you think your chances are slim?

i know a bunch of people who got in last year and at least 8 people from sd who got into sf.. i guess they really do favor us..

Well, my stats aren't that superb and they only take in 60 students per class. I just want to save my $100 for another school. Oh by the way, Western supplemental app can be postmarked on Nov 3 right? I know we can have it postmarked on the deadline for UCSF because I did it last year. If not, I guess I can always drive to Western on Monday to hand it in personally. Sorry, I'm totally freaking out right now! 😱

aw don't freak out! you'll be fine.. you have tomorrow and sunday and part of monday to finish it.. western i'm not sure because i'm not applying there.. thought it was dumb how they needed mamphys I, II, and lab.. i'm hoping that the post office isn't crowded on monday though.. that would suck.. oh and about sending in sf's supplemental.. i'm sending it through express mail.. but i fear that there might be a slight chance of it getting lost in the mail! so i'm thinking about sending two copies of my app.. one through express and one through priority so it gets there different days in case one of them gets lost.. is that too psychotic or.. hmm, what do you think?

I am working on my app and canceled everything to finish it. I am 1/2 done and so far my essays are superb. If I don't get in this year, I'm just going to lose it. 🙁

I amazed at how so many people around my neighborhood have "YES ON 8" signs!...

UCSF accepts 122 students... don't they?

I'm amazed how many people in my neighborhood ( hello, Haight Street ) have yes signs on their cars. 😕 And that children TV commercial is disgusting.

i was up in berkeley last week and happy to see all the no on prop 8 signs...
...i come back home to los angeles and all i see are the yes on 8 things... their signs irk me... and scare me

ANYWAYS!!!! just joining the bandwagon... totally cramming in my supp essays tonight. nice to know i'm not alone. Sometimes i'll be up until 3-4am... frequently viewing this site (or facebook) to make it feel as if i'm not the only one up. 😛

ps: no on prop 8 <--- fyi *^_^*

I'm thinking of sending it via Certified Mail for both UCSF and Western, since I'm planning to send it on the day of the deadline. I think they give you a receipt, so that's your only proof that you have.

Ahhh the whole prop 8 thing. Is marriage part of religion or separate?

If marriage is part of religion than:

The question is this... Do religions have the right to discriminate?

Should a non Jewish person be allowed to become Jewish in an orthodox church?

Should a satanist be allowed to be baptized?

Can a non catholic be allowed to become a priest?

I'm not saying I'm a Yes on 8 or No on 8. But there is some legitimate issues for both parties and not as clear cut as something like segregation. Separation of church and state goes both ways. Church can't influence the state nor the state influence the church. At the same time I don't think anyone should be discriminated.

I took Mamm phys I last winter, but I didn't want to take the 6 unit lab. So, I'm currently taking a Physiology class w/ lab for 4 units at my CC. I think that should fulfill their requirement.

i suggest that you make this comment on something more relevant like the latimes or something.. they have plenty of forums that could accomodate for questions such as these..

and to cinnamoroll- certified mail, never done that before.. how is that different from express mail, if i may ask?

Hey I didn't bring it up...

Within state it isn't much faster to send express vs priority and be careful with certified/delivery confirmation... i think some of them require signature.

Yaaaay, I just finished my UCSF supplemental! I don't even have a Halloween costume though, so I am just throwing on a bunch of weird mismatching clothes=P
Good luck you guys!

...and NO on Prop 8, since everyone is talking about it 😵

oh okay, well i know that express mail gets sent the next day and priority mail gets sent within 2-3 days .. but as far as certified mail, what is there to be careful about? isn't the signature just a confirmation?

I haven't done this before but according to the website, they say it provides proof of mailing at time of mailing and date and time of delivery.

but some of the confirmation requires that the recipient provide a signature as proof that it was delivered.

On the bright side, those of you rushing for the Nov. 3rd deadline get an extra hour to work on your supplementals this weekend.

I was just wondering how many and which "C" essays people did? Seems like a lot of those questions won't apply to many people. Such as learning disabilities or community adversely affecting education.

This helped when figuring out if I should put anything on the c forms of the application. (I only used one area.)

it could also be from "unique circumstances involving your family". It looks like I can do 3 out of 4 except the learning disability.

When I was mailing off things last year a nice guy at the post office suggested I do "delivery confirmation" (the green label) versus the other ones because it does not require a signature but still provides a receipt and tracking number. He said it is a hassle to the school to require them to sign for everything and could even hold up delivery if no one is available to sign when the mail is delivered. So I send all my pharm stuff with the green label.

Best to double check at the counter when mailing, I'm sure.

God, I'll finish my app today hopefully - it shall be a glorious day when I'm finally done with that bad boy. Have been working on it for weeks. 🙂

Jesus, I can't believe I'm almost finished, I think reading this thread yesterday have inspired me to work intensely hard today. I decided not to fill out one of the C essays, because I don't want to dwell on the negatives, but otherwise, I'm pretty much done. I love you, Joel, for posting that blog. 😍

I am pretty much finished with my UCSF application after months of soul searching and working on it for weeks. I feel overwhelmed with joy, so happy, optimistic and inspired, I have a hard time describing it. I'm floating on a big mushy cloud of happiness and the tingly feeling inside of me says: with this type of application and all the phenomenal essays I wrote, I have a real chance of getting in this year. This is the only thing I want in life that will truly make fully, unconditionally and completely happy and I hope my prayers get answered.

haha, you are hilarious. i'm almost done with my supplemental too, 'cept i can't seem to finish my last paragraph of B5. is there anything else we need to finalize before sending in our supplemental?

i hope you get in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙂🙂

Well after trying to get everything done in time to mail it today, adobe crashes on me and I had to redo everything. So I guess I'll join the Monday club. I think they recommended that we send it first class mail. Anyone know? Was planning to send it priority with delivery confirmation.

ouch..sorry to hear that.. Thats why I'm typing everything up in Words first then copy and paste it over whenever I'm done.

I'm stuck at B5 and I still have C to work on.. Then I have the Western, and UCSD supps...Thankfully some of the questions are similar with each other..

They said to send in the payments by first class mail, but I'm not sure about the supplemental.

I was at the supplemental workshop, and they suggested using first class mail over certified mail for the supplemental also, because no one will be there to sign for it.

I heard a rumor from my best friend's classmate that for the UCSF supplemental, they prefer that you fill out each essay question to the maximum number of characters. Is this true? I am having trouble in the length of my "human condition" response. I am now stuck in the dilemma of leaving it "as is" for sake of good content, or extending my response with the possibility of just coming off as repetitive or rambling lol

It's not a rumor it's an actual comment that Joel said during admissions seminar I attended - he said they want people who have a lot to say and thus trying to fill out their apps to full extent. Hope this helps. :luck:

That's nice! I didn't know the deadline was November 3rd.

I am with you all. Just need to proofread once again and I should be ready to submit on Monday.

Might as well proofread it one more time + 1 to be safe. IMO, read your responses out of order/randomized, just to mix it up.

Yes.

I am wishing you the best of luck Cheb!

Certified provides proof that you sent your mail on xx/xx, as well as some other options.

Express mail is your best friend if- a: you're applying to a rolling admit school and b: you enjoy procrastination/adrenaline rushes.

I hand delivered my supplemental Friday morning--and submitted my PharmCAS Friday night. It was nice to have the people in the office remember me and wish me luck. Hopefully this'll be my year.

Good luck to everyone still trying to finish--I hope Christmas will be another good day for everyone this year. 😀

Anyone know if the payment can be mailed on Nov 3 as well? or does it have to get there by Nov 3?

On the sidebar timeline at http://pharmacy.ucsf.edu/pharmd/prospectivestudents/ it says:

You must mail your UCSF Supplemental Application so that it is postmarked by this date.

All transcripts must be received by PharmCAS and/or UCSF by this date. For details, see Checklist: Transcripts.

Yikes... guess there is no point in finishing my supplemental because I was going to try and have a transcript mailed out tomorrow. 🙁

I think the human condition question was Mary Ann Koda Kimble's idea. Ha, ha, or at least that's what she told us. I wish all of you luck, especially you Cheberushka! Shortly after turning in my applications I was scared I might have gotten the UCSF one mixed up with the UOP one when I mailed it. I was really rushed, and I was turning them in Nov. 1st, and giving them a final grammar check at the post office. I actually brought white-out with me in case I found any final errors, which I did 😛 Everything turned out okay in the end though.

O wow, you don't have your PharmCAS completed? I can't guarantee there is a point by then. Everything must be postmarked by Nov. 3 or submitted by Nov. 3. However, if your transcripts are not in PharmCAS hands by now, I don't think you're complete at any school deadlining Nov. 3. You don't have to send transcripts to UCSF directly. You're fine if that's what you thought.
