This thread is for discussing applications to the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine in the 2024-2025 (class of 2029) cycle.

Hey everyone! I’m a third time IS applicant who was waitlisted this previous cycle. I wanted to mention a few things!
*All decisions go out at the same time in late February/early March.
*UGA is pretty quiet with communication. The last few years, we heard in September, November, and January. They were general emails about the application process.
*Decisions are usually released via email as a document.
*UGA is known to contact recommenders. It isn’t good or bad. It’s random, and you are not guaranteed an acceptance if your recommenders are called. Also, you can be accepted even though your recommenders haven’t been called. Don’t stress on it too much!
*UGA does not do interviews, and they don’t require the GRE anymore.
I’m happy to answer any questions, but these are the most common ones I saw in the previous years!
I’ll edit this as need be. Good luck everyone! 🙂

Hi all! I was wondering if everyone applying is including summer semesters when they took classes in this question on the UGA VMCAS application? I'm conflicted I should count summer or not.
The question is: Prior to this application, how many total pre-professional academic semesters of preparation have you completed, beginning with undergrad?

Thanks!

I did last year when I applied due to it technically being a semester, even though it is squeezed into a one-to-two-month period.

Yes summer semesters count as academic semesters

Hey everyone! First time OOS applicant here.
Has anyone gotten the update that they meet all requirements yet? I saw on facebook that someone had gotten a rejection a few days ago for not meeting requirements, but I haven’t seen anyone getting confirmation that they’re moving to application review

I got this email on October 2nd from them. :”
Good afternoon,

Thank you for your interest in the University of GeorgiaCollege of Veterinary Medicine. We are currently reviewing all application submissions to assess who meets the required qualifications. We will finalize this review over the next week and will update all applicants on their status.”

Yes I received that email too. I was just wondering if anyone had heard anything yet.

The rejections at this point only go out to those who didn’t meet minimum requirements which is most likely that they didn’t meet the required overall GPA, didn’t have the required amount of experience hours, etc. I believe last year we got an email once they entered the stage of calling references/admissions committee review process which I think is around December-January.

Would you mind sharing the Facebook group? I’ve been trying to find either general C/O ‘29 groups or school-specific ones but haven’t had much luck!

Just learned the hard way that apparently a C- does not count as a C for admissions. I guess I'm signing up to retake ochem 2 at GSU next semester and also writing a very pleading email so I can hopefully be let back into the applicant pool. Don't know if I feel like sobbing or screaming about the whole thing

Omg I’m so sorry. I’m so thankful my school didn’t do +/- grades.

Unfortunately most websites specify a C or better on prerequisites and they make no exceptions for these rules, especially if you are an oos applicant as the pool is too large. If you are IS they may have different requirements so maybe check that! Next year you will be more informed and hopefully have a stronger application!

Honestly UGA is the only school I applied to that won't take that grade, which mainly sucks because it is my in state school. If I was oos I wouldn't be worrying as much. The email they sent said if I'm planning on retaking it to let them know before Friday and you bet I'm planning on retaking it now that I know

Update for anyone interested, I let them know of my intention to retake the class and they put me back in the pool! So glad that ended up working out

Did anyone just get an email update stating that they have moved your application to the next phase ? I’m curious to know if that’s just a general thing they say/do or if moving to the next phase is another step closer to a yes? If that makes sense lol

Do they usually email you as they move your application from one phase to the next or just silence until you either get a rejection or acceptance? TYIA

just to confirm- we don’t have to send fall transcripts unless we took a prereq course, correct?
The last email they sent: “If you are currently taking prerequisite courses, please send us an updated transcript once your grades are known at the end of the Fall 2024 semester. Those need to be sent directly to our program by email ([email protected]) or mail (Attn: Parker Moore, Sr. Director of Admissions, 501 DW Brooks Drive, Athens, Georgia 30602). The transcript must be official in order for our office to accept it.”

That’s correct. I sent mine in regardless because I wanted to at least keep them up to date on my coursework as a whole because I’m currently in a Masters program and will be staying on track to complete it over the summer.

For sending the transcript, I know we have to order it through an official service like Clearinghouse, but is there a way to get it sent directly to the UGA email? Or do you have to send it to yourself and then attach it via email?

On the website for Clearinghouse you can put the UGA as the recipient school and it then it will also give a spot to put the email to send it to

Hi everyone! 1st year vet student here. Just wanted to give everyone an update on timeline for the next month or so:

The next time should hear from UGA is late January, which will just be them giving you a vague timeline for when decisions will get released. After that decisions will be sent out between late Feb and Early March!

Goodluck everyone!

Hey everyone! Did anyone receive confirmation that their transcripts from fall have been received? I sent them through Parchment but am unsure if I will be notified that they are received. Thanks!

I haven’t received any notification from them or parchment that they’ve been retrieved. I’ll probably email if I haven’t heard by next week.

I sent them an email 2 days ago about it because mine haven't been retrieved either but they still haven't responded. I'm sure the office is still on break from the holidays

If I’ve graduated already in [emoji[emoji[emoji6][emoji6]][emoji[emoji[emoji6]][emoji[emoji6]]]][emoji[emoji[emoji6]][emoji[emoji6]]][emoji[emoji[emoji6][emoji6]][emoji[emoji[emoji6]][emoji[emoji6]]]][emoji[emoji[emoji6][emoji6]][emoji[emoji[emoji6]][emoji[emoji6]]]] do you all think I still need to send transcripts? Morning has changed on them since I graduated

I assume they don’t need them unless you took a pre requisite. Is that how you read it?
