Hey,

I hate to interrupt your thread, but I could use some advice. Does anybody have any experience or know anyone that has experience with the waitlist at UHS? Is there normally a lot of movement off of it as the year progresses?

The reason that I am asking is that I recently interviewed there on the 20th, been waitlisted 🙁, and really want to go there.

Thanks,
Willlie B

p.s. Drchris33, I think that I was in your group on the 20th. I was the one that made to comment about surgeons appreciating honesty during lunch😀

Dang it......I thought I kept it pretty low key that it was me calling in.......
Bama, is it true that if I shave my palms, I won't go blind???

Hope so........

Hope everyone had a good T-Day. Mine started off crappy.....vehicle problems, plus my princess puking in my back seat, that was awesome (didnt know a 1.75 year old could puke that much!) Where's the Dramimine????
I ate quite a bit.....now I definitely have "Fat guy little scrubs!"

Well I should be off to bed........Peace out!

Oh and to answer the question, I think Jo J is a les*&%#!
Ha ha

Willie,
I'm sure someone else on this thread, such as an ambassador, aka CHRIS would know better than I would to answer this question. However, a few people that I've talked to in my class got waitlisted and I've heard from them that it was suggested they get an alum to write the school a letter - all of them did, and all were obviously accepted. This is just a few people that I know though so it is my only suggestion. I would think if you were waitlisted this early you wouldn't have that difficult of a time getting in. Hope this helps and GOOD LUCK!!
D🙂

Doctordes,

Thanks for the reply and encouraging words🙂. I thought that Chris would be one of the people to answer this question, which is why I addressed part of my post specifically to him. I imagine that he hasn't had much time to check into yet, considering that you guys probably just got back from Turkey Day break.

Also, I don't think that I have an alumni from UHS that lives in my area🙁. I did however email the admissions office and express my desire to goto your school.

Willie B

Willie--
Sorry to disappoint you bro. I just had no real information on the matter, so I didn't want to even try to guess. My humble apologies again.

Man is Dr. Dasouki the man or what?? I absolutely love genetics now. I am not going into ER/FM now, I am working on becoming the foremost expert on genetics!!!!

LMFAO!!! 😀 😀 😀

-C

Chris,
I agree. The genetics lecture was both riveting and explosive, sustaining my attention for the full hour. It really tied the past year and a half together for me and I feel even more intelligent having sat through it...
Either that or it's a clean PUNT.

😀 D

WOW people, that's all I have to say!
I can't believe that I haven't read this thing since Sept., and it has turned into the WWF (I mean WWE) singles connection. What is up???
How do you have time for this smut when there is medical informatics projects, biochem equations, and FCM directed studies to attend to.
If I were to perform a fisher exact test on this group right now I would say that at least 72.096% of you were in need of a group hug (P<0.05).

Okay, since I have nothing better to do, I will reply to my own post.
Yes, indeed Eurodocmom (clever name by the way), we could all use a group hug.

By the way Dr Chris, what happened to being to online ambassador. What's up with the slow replies? Cut down on the palm shaving and start doing your job!

Willie B, I am sorry I don't know anyone in our class that was wait listed, but I am sure at this early date you will hear some news soon. Keep us posted.

EuroDoc Mom or L (I wouldn't want some internet crazy to know your true identity),
How you doin'? Welcome back to SDN. How's the studying coming? I can say with a lot of honestly it is not going too well, thankfully there is not too much info on this quiz.
Disco Dave
PS. I guess since I know your identity, an internet crazy does know the true identity of EuroDocMom.😀

Eurodoc--
Boy you have some gall not being on here forever and then all of a sudden popping up and telling me how to do my job and inform me about my person hygiene habits!! 😡 😡

J/K

Welcome back.....good to see someone else post on here.

Yeah my give-a-crap factor is pretty low right now......probably should get it going today unless I want to flunk Renal!!

Been kinda quiet around here lately......waz up??

K I need to get to the school and starting hitting it.....Fo shizzle my nizzle

-C

Oh, Dr. Chris you know you are the studentdoc best post-er of all time (at least as far as this thread goes!)
Hey, what is all this shizzle my nizzle stuff? Have you guys been reading too much Dr. Seuss.
I am WAY out of the loop!
Hey, how bout those physiology questions on the quiz this morning...WWWHHHAAATTT are you asking ????? I literally got dizzy on the H+ question!

Hey, what is all this shizzle my nizzle stuff? Have you guys been reading too much Dr. Seuss

That is one of the funniest quotes I have ever seen!! Big Steve, you've outdone yourself this time.

Don't worry EDM, I had egg on my face yesterday when I asked DeJizzle Sizzle about it. Something to do with Snoop Dogg.

I'm WAY outta the loop!!
M.

Hells Bells,
What language are yall speakin? What is this, RUSSIA?!

What the hell is this Russia?

You folks are nuttier than a toddler turd after a box of caramel turtles.

I can't top that Michael Jackson (MJ)!
Is anyone having buyers remorse on the big Kaplan purchase?

EuroDocMom,
Buyers remorse, already? I have to see the course, first. HOPEFULLY, we will rock the boards because of it.
Disco Dave

EuroDocMom,
Does your name mean that you are a European doctor and a mom or that you are a doctor for european moms? Or maybe a european doctor for moms, regardless of nationality. Perhaps you are telling your mom that you are a european doctor. Maybe you are not a mom at all but are proclaiming that you are a european doctor in a Jamaican accent. "I'm a European Doc, Mon." It's all very confusing.
Is being a EuroDoc sort of like being at EuroDisney, b/c I heard that placed sucked.

I'm thinking about not taking Kaplan after all. First of all, I'm currently more broke than that little kid from Webster. Secondly, I think I am just going to get the Kaplan books from my cousin and buy the Q-bank. And C, I don't like the once a month weekend format. So, that is my current Kaplan course thought process. I will update everyone again in a few days. 🙂 Well, I'd better go study. This section has me more frustrated than Michael Jackson trying to get into the Chuck E. Cheese.

im going to be part of the classof 2008 at uhs. Does anyone have any opinions on where to live. Im looking at ct, pinnacle and walnut tower. any suggestions or comments are much appreciated.

Hey Osteo,

CONGRATULATIONS on your acceptance!

I and many other UHSers live at CT. It's been a good experience for me, essentially saving gas for the car and having the school right across the street. I'll be leaving in July. I'm thinking of selling a lot of stuff. If you're interested, stay tuned.

The apts are about 500sq ft, perfect if you don't have a ton of big furniture. The 5th floor is always packed with UHS students right before quizzes and tests. It's basically all about convenience.

Some friends don't live at CT and are happy. Mostly those with families or husbands/wives. Any other q's email me.

Good luck!
M.

hey 2006ers,
how easy (or hard) is it to get a 3rd year Preceptorship you want? Specifically, Florida. How much do grades and scores play into the process.

Dubbya--
The way our third year works is by a match process. Grades, scores, class rank, etc are not even a factor. Here is how it works:
First off, we did a "straw pull" putting down our top three choices of where we would like to go for rotations. Then a computer program went thru and gave us info of the sites that would be full after first round, based on the straw pull.
Then on Match Day, you have turned in a sheet with your top three choices. A computer will go thru and do two different processes. Everyone is assigned a number. First way is for the computer to go thru and randomly select numbers. If your number comes up, it will look at your first choice. If that is open, you get it. if not, then it goes to your second choice. If that is full, goes to your third. So that cycle goes thru 100 times. Second, the same process takes place except this time when it gets to a number and if your first choice is full, the computer comes back to you later, and then assesses your second choice. And so on. After that goes thru 100 times, a few students assigned to this will evaluate the stats, looking at the class as a whole. Which ever method produces the best stats for the class is what they go with.

This year, 88% matched to their first choice; 94% matched in top three choices. This left about 14 people unmatched. So they had to go thru another match process, based on the sites that were not filled.

It turned out really good this year, and the majority is happy. As far as Florida goes, I believe there are four sites there; maybe three. But I know it is one of the more popular sites, so it tends to fill up fast.

I hope this helps. Sorry if it was vague.

Well back to the books....got finals this week!!!

I am assuming my classmates will be posting more as the week goes on!!

-C

Posting more. Yeah right Chris, unlike you a lot of us don't have time to be screwballing off on SDN.

My favorite word right now:
Juxtaglomerular.

M.

Chris left out one thing about the match process. Only the COOLEST get to go to Florida! So, all you dorks out there who are dreaming of rotating in an awesome locale, such as Ft. Myers, forget it. You should just plan on staying in Kansas City with all the other losers! 🙂 Or maybe Loserville West: Wichita. Okay, so I am trying to avoid studying by inciting my classmates, Get off me!! It is hard being a pathological procrastinator.

Seriously, there are 3 Florida sites: Ft. Myers, St. Petersburg, and Orlando. Orlando only has 2 spots and is a smaller hospital. St. Pete has a couple of residency programs and Ft. Myers is where all the bad asses like me go. Just the luck of the draw. That's why they call it a lottery system. I was kidding about kewlness being a pre-req for Florida. I mean, they did let Des go down there. 🙂 J/k, Des. Love Ya'. Don't hurt me.

I'm am a little confused about how the 4th year clerkship assignment works. The match process is just for you 3rd Year Cores right? Do you get to choose your 4th year clerkships in a similar way?

4th year is set up on your own. The third year you have nine or ten months of core rotations and one elective. Then the fourth year you have four core and six electives. you can set up your electives anywhere you want. So basically you are matching just for third years.

I guess I am one of the Losers in Loserville West!!!! Bama be sure to send me a pic of you on the beach in your thong!!

-C

The doctor of all european moms will be joining the other non-southern shizzle-nizzle Dr. Seuss loosers in the great City of Kansas, that is really in Missouri (I love this place).

Dear Ft Myers Hospital,
Please do not hold UHS responsible for the students that will be rotating with you this fall. How one whole role of wild/crazy/silly/loud students could all end up going to a relatively small slot available location via a lottery system is statistically unrealistic (oh, that would be a z score of 1000, and a p value of .00000000001.... and they thought I didn't learn anything!!).
Sincerely,
Class 2006

I guess I had to put my two cents in this "match" process. As a dual DO/MBA, I was guaranteed a spot in beautiful KCMO ... so not all the cool people are leaving for the beaches of the Sunshine State-EuroDocMom and Disco Dave are staying right here. Oh and Chris, what are you trying to do elicit my gag reflex...Bama in thong. UGH!!!!!!!!! Now if MJ would get a hold of pics of Des and Kendra in a thong on the beach ...better get the paddles because Disco Dave is in D-fib.
Back to the kidney and the cave,
Disco Dave

Chris,
I didn't mean to imply that everyone rotating in KC or Wichita are losers. OK, that's exactly what I meant, but I mean that in the nicest way possible. 🙂 I don't know about Wichita, but there will be no male thong-action in Ft. Myers. Now females, that's a different story. In my mind Ft. Myers is a magical place where it never snows, the women all look like Jennifer Garner and they all walk around wearing thongs. The nurses at the hospital look like they walked out of a Aerosmith video and the cafeteria has fresh shrimp and crab legs everyday. What?? Shut-up!! Stop trying to ruin my dream!!

I guess all this studying pee-pee has me a little loopy! Does anyone know how to treat nephritic-nephrotic, rapidly progressive, membranoproliferative vesicouretal reflux with a twist? I know it is diagnosed via transrectal ultrasonography, but I can't find a treatment anywhere. Probably corticosteroids.

Current favorite term: Henoch-Schlong purpura

Ou est OH58D?! 😉

Dear Ft. Myers beach bums,
Get ready to move to the land of blue hair and wrinkly people who wear flamingo pink lipstick and slop it up at Crabby Bill's. Why do I envision this site closing after next year?! They're gonna go nuts.
Yours truly,
Cleveland-mistake-on-the-lake-bound.

Fave word of the day:
Terazosin😡 😡 😡
M.

Let me give you some helpful advice for rotations...go to places were RESIDENTS and INTERNS are...they tell you what you need to know, they help you learn procedures, they guide you through the jungle of the PRE-RESIDENCY experience. No sense in making a decision on residency if you ain't even around residents!
I had 2 great friends that went to Ft Myers (the land of old people and car dealerships...don't let anyone tell you different)...DON"T STAY THERE YOUR 4th Year.
If you plan on being in a competetive residency, diversity in education is necessary. Being around other medical students, being involved in good didactics, being on call are ALL necessities.
Hey you guys should have a good time, but clinicals need to prepare you for residency (first and foremost).
I was in St. Louis during my 3rd year, and while it snowed alot, I also had a blast and learned a ton from residents. It payed off.

Overall "the match" process at UHS sucks, and has little regard for student education but rather fulfilling negotiated contracts with hospitals. Make the best of it, read Ferri or the Washington Manual and figure out what you want to do with the rest of your life. Enjoy some beer along the way too!

Correct me if I am wrong, but Mary, didn't you tell me you don't have time to post on here?? You have been posting like a fool!!!!

🙂 🙂

-C

Guys, Guys lets not fight. This is not the time to be turning on each other. Now is the time to put our differences aside and take on the real enemy: Dr. Kirilla!! 🙂

What's all this shizz about thong-wearing and Florida getting louder? Y'all are just jealous -- and yes, I AM going to hurt you for saying I wasn't cool, Bama. Come on. For real. Why you gotta be all up in my grill? Pay you will.
In Ft. Myers next year it's on like Donkey Kong. I know you all agree wtih me, too. You'll be getting a lovely Christmas Card from "The Real World Ft. Myers" crew next year, with Bama in his hot pink man thong and all. Contain your excitement ladies. Don't let him fool you; he's just a tease and will leave you the first chance he gets.
🙂D

Speaking of being hurt, Des....
Disco Dave is calling you out. You were supposed to teach me the polka but I guess you were too busy watching the constant police chases down Indy Ave or doing something more important like study anatomy minutia. Disco Dave is hurt, perturbed, and taking aback. 🙁

ODB,
Dude, why don't you just go out to your local Blockbuster and rent 'Polka For Dummies'? Or perhaps 'Dorf on Polka.' I even hear that there is a book entitled 'polka made ridiculously simple.'

because Bama,
It's more fun to call Des out on SDN.
Disco Dave

It's all fun and games, ODB until she pokes out one of your eyes. Oh yeah, I've seen her do it. Not pretty, not pretty at all.

Dude she will pop out that eye, roll it in rice and seaweed and eat it like sushi. Then she would make me try it too!! No offense ODB, but damn.......

Well I am so excited about this exam tomorrow.......and Friday........Renal Rocks!!!

"Medicine is fun....hahahahahahaha.......SHUT UP!!!!" (direct quote from the midget)

OK I am going to bed.....so I can cram for path!

-C

OK...FINE, ODB - you win, but I'll have you know that it was the constant nagging and not the goodness of my heart that has made me cave: I will teach you the polka.😉
I was thinking Friday after the final because I really don't think it'll take more than an hour. Email me and I'll let ya know which room I'm in. OR you can ask J the B or Bama as they spy on me daily through their apartments.
Beware, boys. All that is being said about me is quite true: I am in fact an aggressive sushi eater and combine the fine art into killing others.
Watch out now!
😱
D

Who else totally sucked it up on the Path practical??

-C

That path practical was crap on a stick! I bet we are the only medical school in America that has black and white path practicals. What a crock! Why don't they just write all the exams in braille? We need a little extra challenge.

Don't mind me, I am pissed at the world at this moment.

MJ,
The path god has fallen?! Tell me it's not so. My world is turned upside down...next thing you know someone will tell me that wrestling and Santa Claus aren't real and the moon isn't made of cheese! I don't think it was so much the photos as much as more bad ERF questions than normal. MJ you know it is pertinent to your path training to know what a "glitter" cell is.+pissed+
To all my Class of 2006'ers out there, good luck tomorrow.
Disco Dave

Right now I have the worst headache of my llliiiff...........:spam:

oh oh oh....i know this one.......SUBARACHNOID HEMORRHAGE!!!!

-C

Exuse me, but I was wondering if the MSII Renal Section Final was at 0800 or at 1230 today. I showed up for the 0800 test, but the questions on the test were not from the same section I studied 🙂 All..... have a great break!! LKD
