UHS Class of 2007

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Ankur,

I'm the balding guy that you are supposed to be studying with in Smith Hall right now, and Daveyboy is follicularly challenged dude who is about to move into CT. I still don't know who prettymean is, but I have my ideas.

since I sign 90% of my posts with my name, I don't know why you haven't figured it out yet. or maybe you did and this was just a brainfart.

WBDO

Ankur,

you wanker! I first met you on SDN. You must be studying too hard.

"Follicularly challenged", I resent that! There is no deficit of follicles, only a tasteful redistribution. When it comes down to brass tacks and gettin' nekkid, all the girls love a skinny guy with a hairy back!:horns:

Dave,

I feel like I've been cheated out of something. I'm not undergoing any redistrubution, just an early departure. Where is this enjoyable backhair that you speak of? Does it keep you warmer on cold and windy days like today? Seriously though, the ICCS video taped interview showed me a new perspective of my receding hairline. I didn't know how bald I actually was becoming until I saw myself from above. +pissed+

You need a hair transplant, dude. From the head to the back and shoulders!

Hirsuitism is going to be all the rage for 2004. That and the monbrow.

The interview had the same effect on me, too!!!!!
 😡

How is studying coming?

studying? oh shoot there's a quiz on monday. 😱 Crap, I knew I forgot to do something today 😴

Dudes,

We are done with cardio!!!!! That final was fun don't you think :wow:

Seriously though, we were on page three 😱 We need to do a little better than that :horns:

Later all 😴

I wanna know who's havin the thumpin post test parties on the 9th floor of CT!! Next time, I'm comin dowwwwnnn!!!!:hardy: :hardy: :hardy:

Congrats on finishing cardio!!

Finally, our year can only get better...Karius is running the show now...so you know you'll learn something from lecture. No more Ballam and his powerpoints that don't make sense+pissed+

Did ya look to see who's on schedule for this week? Ballam is listed ya know. And i'm going to say BOOOOOO for not going to follies !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BOOOOOO 🙂
Russ I hear your wifey has beautiful hair... She coming in for follies?
Anywhoo, I'm going to go to bed. Third interview tomorrow... Supposedly the disgruntled patients... Can't wait.
See ya guys in cloass:meanie:

Oh well, being tired.. I meant CLASS.. not with an O. HEHEH medstudent with spelling problems.
Did everyone do ok on OPP?
Who's going to follies?
And whatcha going to wear?

hmm, perfect hair? well if you ask me, everything is perfect about her. And yes, she's coming for follies.

OPP went fine. leave it to me to ace the tests that don't count for a real grade +pissed+

Hi Class of 2007! I'm going to be attending UHS this August..and was curious how often those 7am quizzes are? Also, are there any other times when you have had mandatory events before 8am and after 5 or 6pm at night?? I will have a one year old in daycare and need to prepare myself for times I will need help outside of their regular hours. Thanks! 🙂

MCWIHEA,

I remember you from last year. I hope the year off has given you enough time to spend with your family. We look forward to you joining the UHS family this fall.

We typically have one 8:00am quiz (1 hour in length), and two 7:00am quizzes (2 hours in length). Essentally, you are given 1 hour of quiz for each week of class except for the last weeks material which is covered in the section final. For example, in cardio, on the Monday of week two we had a one hour quiz at 8:00am. Two weeks later and two weeks after that, we were given two-hour quizzes starting at 7:00am. You will be given a quiz/test schedule at the beginning of the year and you should be able to figure it out then.

Rarely, in fact never, will there be any required classes scheduled after 5 pm (except for club meetings and occasional guest speakers).

Good luck and we'll see you in the fall.

Russell

Quizzes aren't too bad, they are better early in the morning so we get it over with...after studying all weekend...
Anthony

First I want to let you know that I love it here at UHS but the 7 am quizes are hard. I guess the hardest part are the lectures after the tests because typically you will have a full day - I mean you will be in class until 5pm on Mondays if you are a first year. I think even though this is hard it is a great training event for the future - you just can't go home and nap after the quiz well unless you skip🙂

okay that is all I wanted to say
see you guys
Angela

I am nervous about getting that cardio final back - is it 12:30 yet?!!!!

see you in the morning

YAY MADE IT THROUGH THE CARDIO EXAM!
EVEN WITH ME LOSING TIME BEING IN THE ER! GEESH
Can't believe it is finally over, and to celebrate I think I'll......

Good Luck Ya'll Studying this weekend.
I know how my weekend will be spent 🙄

I am tired - is spring break here yet?!

Anyone out there thinking about finding a new place to live while finishing up at UHS...?

I have posted about the Riverside Townhomes and there are only 2 units left. Here in the townhomes, we like to try to keep students in the homes, thus I am letting you know...

There are two 2 BR 1 1/2 bath units left. They are 15 minutes from the school, north of the river, and 5 minutes from Barry Rd. (lotsa shopping). The townhomes are three levels- 2 BR's upstairs with a full bath, kitchen, LR, half bath, and dining on the main level, and a full basement downstairs. The two BR townhome rents for $370 a month!!!!! You can't beat it!!!! If you might be interested, please email me at [email protected] and I will give you my phone # so I can give you more information. This is a great community full of UHS students and dental students and a wonderful family community as well!

Email me if you are interested!

Irisbeeker,
It's been a year since Respiratory but if I remember correctly Resp has lectures on asthma and COPD meds, antibiotics, illegal drugs, TB meds. With the asthma and COPD meds, Dr. Marinac has the huge packet. Print off her PP and just study that.. know MOA, ADRs, what to use asthma vs. COPD. The antibiotics-Know ADRs, MOAs, how to treat C. difficile (Clinda), Buy at 30, cell at 50...another words aminogycosides and tetracyline affect 30S of the ribosome, etc. Focus on the toxicities of aminoglycosides ie. Nephro and ototoxicity. Vanco-red neck syndrome. The illiegal drugs-focus on marijuana and cocaine. TB- know Rifampin, eth, iso, pyr and when to use. I know this is pretty random but I hope it helps.

I have been told that antibiotics are all over our boards, both COMLEX AND USMLE. Know the bug and know the drug. There are a ton of antibiotics to remember, but try to find key points about each one. Which are safe in pregnancy, which to use with penicillin allergy, which has notorious side effects, which ones are toxic to kids.
I hear the Clinical Micro made ridiculously simple is suppose to have a good section on antibiotics with helpful memory tools if you are into that sort of thing.

Did ERF forget to pass out the lube before that test. I feel sore.

+pissed+

hey does anyone know of any residency list for uhs students for any year?? i have been looking all over and cant find anything 😕

Didn't they give you one at your interview? The gave us the one for the previous year when I interviewed. If I find it I'll copy it for you, but I don't think I'll stumble on it for a while.

russell

yea they did i completely forgot about it, thanks 😛

HEY

One of your pathology professors (ERF as you call him) is coming to LECOM to teach us neuropathology. What is he like and how are his exams?

He's just coming here for a week to teach us neuropath...anything will be better than the smurf we have now.

Since I don't have anything to measure him against, I can't say, but I think he really knows his stuff. Be prepared for some off the cuff, non-traditional lectures. He uses slides (not powerpoint, but 35mm). He's a bit rainmanish 🙂, but he is an awesome teacher. Don't approach him before class, after class is ok, but he will bite your head off if you talk to him before. Oh and don't stand in aisles between lectures in your lecture hall, he might push you out of the way. Not sure, if he'll act like this as a guest at another school, but he does this here. He tends to favor men over women in conversation, but it seems to end there. He won't play favorites when it comes to grades, etc.

Just get ready for a show :meanie:

How about now? Do you feel like ERF was just a warm up before the gangbang. Ugghhh.

Hey guys - thank God we have the week off! I really need a break and we just have one section left.

Daveyboy - keep me posted on the rides

ERF does favor conversation with men over women. I just don't think he is very comfortable around us women. LECOM should have a show when he visits though.

See you guys in a week!
Angela

People, we were on page 4. 😱

Pathetic. What're you people doing? Studying? Why would you want to do that?

Happy Easter all!

Russell

hey guys, heads up... we are

"Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences"

😕 not uhscom anymore... hmmmmm......

yes, but starting in a few years we will have a Masters program and in 2007 or 2008 a PhD program including a 6 yr DO/PhD program.

Congrats everyone, we're almost done with the first yr. 👍 🙂

Hey everyone decided to post again...although we all live in the same building...hey, there are tons of undissected bodies, they'll throw at us, I saw 2 tonight in the lab...intact so we'll have everything on this practical for anatomy.

Hey

WannabeDO told me to post my thoughts on ERF being at LECOM. We only had him for 2 hours today. It's a little different than what we are used to. Our other path prof shows us pictures but flips past them before we have a chance to see anything and we never have been tested on them. We are also used to have notes in front of us. Our other path prof talks SO fast and ERF is much slower. He's pretty funny, but hopefully our class will warm up to him. He said that our test will be pretty much Gripes and some pictures....It's nice to have a different guy. Hopefully we will acutally learn path for once and not memorize gripes and pray that we won't get screwed.

What are your experiences with him?

Thanks for sharing, I was curious how he would be accepted. We get GRIPES quizbank questions for our section quiz and final questions. We also have a pathology practical where we are given a separate test that he designs. It has multiple choice questions (some with and some without pictures). Then he has open ended extra credit questions. They are all fair (not necessarily easy). He is not one to surprise you with something out of the blue. If he asks you a question, he showed you an equivalent slide or discussed the topic in class.

I missed ERF Today! I wanted to go with him to the Path Museum. Dr. S is ok, but I'm jealous that LECOM borrowed him. 🙁

Good Luck Everyone :luck:

I'm an incoming first year. I wanted some feedback on highspeed internet. Does anyone have a recommendation on service providers in Kansas City? What is the ball park price? I currently pay $39.95/month for Cox in San Diego.

Thanks in advance.

Right now you can get SBC dsl for 29.95 (1.5 mbit/s down, 300 mbit/s up) which is what I have. For $10 more, you can get the next speed which is like up to 3 mbit/s down. Roadrunner is the cable modem service and they are offering six months for 29.99 I think. After six months it goes up to 44.95. The benefits of cable are that there is no contract and you don't have to have a land line. Benefits to DSL is of course it is cheaper. I have been happy with my DSL. I have video conferenced with my wife and kids in california all year and have not had a problem with bandwidth.

Hey guys....

Just want to congratulate on almost finishing your first year. It seems crazy that I have finished my second year already (minus summer school). The time does go by fast, so be thankful for that.

you guys learned a lot more than you realized this year. You won't really figure that out until next year, when you start to review info (like anatomy).

Congrats and good luck this coming week. It's all down hill until August!!!!!
