UHS Class of 2007

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Harpos is the name of the bar with the famous quarter draws on tuesdays, its located right of westport road on pensylvania. its a lot of fun but get there early if you want a table. another great tuesday special is "taco tuesday" at mesa wraps which consists of dollar tacos which are very delicious. and since mesa wraps is a short walk down the road from harpos it makes a great dinner/drinks combo. hope everyone is having a great summer. see you all soon.

newfocus, it is clear that you are truly on the ball.

To anyone who knows,
What kind of dress code do we have for the first day or orientation, I know its class picture time, but do we wear a suit like at orientation or is it a little more casual such as shirt, tie...
Anthony(D15athsu)

I'm thinking business casual would be OK. My plan is to go with a blue oxford and khakis. I'll keep a tie in my car just in case.

I'm in KC!!!!!!!! Okay now that its out of my system....i'm so confused...I don't even know where to go to buy decent groceries! I moved in today and opened up my boxes...when i went to load things in the closets i realized that the shelves were dusty...so now i have to go to the nearest grocery store...eeps...wonder if its safe around here? Its so weird being here. Everyone seems really nice so that's the good part.

Okay if anyone is in KC and isn't too busy please PM me your phone #.......I have to go to dinner at my uncle's house but hopefully i won't be there too late.

A little tired and a bit overwhelmed...can't wait for you all to move in!!

Vinti =)

I wish I was in KC already! Im really craving some Chubby's!😍

Hey guys...I'm sorry that i'm being such a pain....but i was wondering if anyone was free tomorrow? I need to move a bed into the apartment and I really could use some help! PM me if you'll be around! Thank you so much!!

Vinti =)

Daveyboy, is that the Chubby's a sandwich place or a bar? I remember at my undergrad we had a good place called chubby's and they made sandwiches?

Vinti, see if there are some second years in CT already...good luck with the move in.

Chubby's is a greasy spoon diner just across the street from school. Its a good place for late night eats. Also, Chubby's was featured on the show Insomniac with Dave Attell on Comedy Central.
I love Chubby's!😍

Hi. I will also be in your class this year at UHS. I recently graduated from the University of Iowa and am moving to Kansas City later this week. I am hoping to find some people to hang out with before school starts. We need to live it up before we have to study all the time! 😀

In KC, I am living about 15 miles south of UHS in KC, KS. Anyone living in that area? Know anything about traffic?

I hope to get to know you all soon.

Debbie

Hey Future Docs.

Its almost Aug 1. It seems like we have a pretty affable and cohesive class, based on the SDN posts! I'm looking forward to meeting all of you soon!

DIESEL FUEL, yeah, that's what my car runs on. I already talked to Vinti about it, but those of you who are in KC, can you please keep your eyes open for gas stations that sell diesel fuel? Hopefully some place near campus will have it a reasonable price. Imagine having to go to a truck stop for fuel ... 😛

Chubby's it is... BTW, Brad said the heat index was like 100 degrees, how long is that going to last?

Welcome to UHS and the post Debie, as far as traffic goes, I was told by a second year that the worst traffic is by the exit to our school, but other than that traffic is only bad during poor weather. Also, compared to a big city like NY, Chicago or the sort, traffic in KC resembles the suburbs (from what I've been told).

Good luck to everyone that starts class monday!!! You have to let me know how it is. Mine Starts AUG 4, so let me know how intense it is. 😱

Alright I'm outy,

Ankur

Hey Debbie,
Welcome to SDN and soon KC. I don't know much about KC, KS but around here it's pretty easy to navigate. Good luck with your move. Send a private message and we can make plans to hang out when you arrive.

Ankur, I think I saw diesel fuel at a 66 station on Southwest Blvd near Broadway. That is between Crown Center and Westport, I think. Good luck with that.

Jammie

Welcome to UHS! If anyone is still looking for somewhere to live, the apartment below me is still available. I live 2 miles from school, no highways, so the traffic is minimal. Rent is $460 a month for 2 bedrooms and one bath. We have a garage and a backyard. The house is split into three apartments, this one's on the first floor, and they only rent to students. If you have questions you can either e-mail me ([email protected]) or call me (816-483-1404) or contact the landlord (Jim Piper- 816-483-8340- tell him I sent you). Best of luck to all of you next year.
Jen Scott🙂
UHS Class of 2005

Hi Debbie! Welcome to the thread! I hope that your packing is going well so that you won't end up getting two hours of sleep the night before you move...unlike someone i know...ahem. ;-) I'm sure that you're excited about your move...if there's anything i can do to help please PM me. At first this area can be confusing but then you'll make friends with people like Jammie and Joe and you'll see that you get less lost more often! (unless you're like me...in which case there's no hope!!) 🙂

Ankur, Brad was not joking! Its absolutely horrendous....one of the message board thingies (like my vocab?!) said that it was 104 degrees...eeps!!! NJ gets hot in the summer too but not to this extreme...and as a resident of Chicago (close enough) you're going to suffer!! That's okay though because the root beer floats will cool us all down!

I hope that you're all enjoying your last few days with your family...I thought i was going to get homesick but everyone here is so complacent that I'm getting along pretty well! I can't wait to meet all of you.

Okay i'm going to go clean up my apartment and then sleep...classes start tomorrow....eeps! i'll be sure to share my summer program adventures and academic laments with you! Bye!

Keep smiling everyone!
Vinti =)

Hey All,

My name is Christina Baker and I am finally here in Kansas City! I look forward to meeting you all soon. Actually, if anyone is really interested in this tues night beer special - I'd be all for meeting up with some people there - sounds fun!

Also, does anyone else live in the Woods of Walnut Creek? I'm starting to feel left out after reading that all you guys are living in CT.

Well, anyone in town that's bored and wants to go explore, PM me and maybe we can do something adventerous and fun before school starts. See you all soon

🙂

christina~

welcome to SDN and to the neighborhood!! I just sent you a PM. how long have you been in KC? do you like 'the woods'? I am in the summer learning enhancement program this week so im sure I could round some people up for Harpos tomorrow night. I put my cell number in the PM.

Thank you all for the warm welcome!

Cristina, don't feel left out. I live far away, too!

You all will have to let me know how Tuesday night goes. It sounds like fun.

What are you doing during summer classes?

Does anyone play basketball? Or know where there is a good gym?

Debbie

For all those who don't know where anything in KC is, I used Yahoo maps and the internet to find some common stores that might be useful in some way or another (Disclaimer: I've only been to KC, MO once for the interview, but I searched on all of the store's websites and these places should still be there)...Apple Market is the closest grocery store that is a big chain to UHS - 3719 Independence Ave., Kansas City, MO 64124-2701 (1 mile from school east)...near the USPS office.
If anyone wants to know where Sears, Bestbuy, Sams Club, Costco, Barnes and Noble, 2 Shopping Malls, IM (D15athsu) me since all of the addresses are tough to type on this small website everything is within 20 mins of the school or CT by driving distance. Anyway, I'm off on my 3 day drive to KC.

Welcome to everyone I don't know on this forum...its nice to meet you🙂

Ankur, if you find a gas station close that sells unleaded fuel, can you post the address so I can find a place to get gas as well.

Vinti, how are classes going?

Little Deb, a UHS second year I know says they play basketball at a school near our school. I think UHS has an intramural league for basketball.

Later everyone,
Anthony

Vinti, How are the rooms at CT, are they already clean when you get there or do you have to clean everything again?

Anthony

Welcome to the post

Does NE know of the following...

Places to rollerblade?
Lap swimming pools?
BBall courts?
Tennis courts?

>>>>>That are in nice areas.<<<<<

PM me if you are up for something...

Ankur

My "big sister" advice...

Don't drive down independence ave east for anything. Not pretty. The farthest I go is to the Costco (?) drug store that is 2 blocks away.

Go up I 29/35 for grocery. If you stay on 35, there's a Festival Foods, Target, & blockbuster and some other things on Chouteau trafficway.

If you stay on 29, there's a price chopper (my personal fave) off of N. Oak Trafficway. Office Max, too.

It's just so much more civilized N. of the River.

Can't wait to meet all of You!

I'm coming back to KC this weekend. I'm on the 10th floor of CT.

Cya soon, little ducks!
M.

Hi Christina! welcome to the post! As for the CT thing, don't feel left out!!! I've been here since friday and though it may seem like many people are living here, i've barely met anyone. In fact most of the people i've spoken with aren't even attending UHS...they're part of the UMKC program....Maybe things will be different after Friday though.

Anthony!!! I feel like i haven't spoken with you in ages! Ck your PM.

Keep smiling,
Vinti =)

Hey Vinti, I think I sent a PM message to you, I'm not sure if I did it correctly...Anyway, in a week or so CT will fill up probably since I know a few other second years who will move back in.

DrMaryC I also PMed you as well with a question.
I'll see everyone there. It'll be nice to meet everyone who I've been talking online to.

Anthony

Hope everyone is packing and getting ready for the big move. I m looking forward to comming to KC. I'll be there on Aug8th in the evening. I hope to meet all of you soon. I was hoping that everyone living in CT this year could post their name and room number so all of us can visit each other and introduce ourselves during orientation. I'll start the list. Later.

David Roshal- 514

I'll add to the CT list! Will be moving this weekend...woohoo!

AIM>>> xxanksxx

I'm moving into 812 Friday the 1st. see ya soon

Hi everyone! Wow this is so exciting...I can't wait until everyone moves in!

Ankur, we'll all set for this Friday. I can't give you any more details because I forgot the name of the places....Brad, can you post the names of the places that we had talked about so that everyone can join in on Friday??

Oh before i forget, are there any root beer float connoisseurs??? Yes Brad, I know that it won't be nearly as exciting as the mountain biking trips or the bar visits that you've got planned...but come on guys...humor me!

Elisabeth, where are you??? Haven't heard from you in a while!

Oh and as for the CT list, 627!

Keep smiling,
Vinti =)

P.S. Just got an e-mail from acura.com about the 2003 Acura TL....ooooo baby!

P.S. Debbie, I PMd you but i'm not sure if it went through....

**pardon all the grammatical errors in the last post...I can be such a dolt at times!**

hey everybody~

just wanted to let everybody that is in town know that we are planing on hitting the plaza on fri night for some food and drinks. im not sure where we will start (maybe O'douds or The Granfaloon) but I do know we are going to end up a Kona Grill. they have 'reverse happy hour' from 11pm-1am which entails dollar sushi and drink specials. it is a pretty classy/trendy place so dress to impress. if anybody has any questions just PM me and I will try to write back or give my cell number. I hope everybody is enjoying the last weeks of summer before school!

brad

Hey vinti 🙂

I'm not really lost, just really busy saying my goodbyes and finishing up all the little details around here. Can't wait to leave on the 7th and get going. I'll be down there either late on the 7th or afternoon on the 8th. I can't wait to meet you guys, and especially have the aforementioned (many times) root beer float... What can I say, I'm a northern girl, and I don't particularly enjoy 100+ degree weather.... so any form of refreshment is generally good.

Kit is fixed, thank goodness. I need AC, and i mean come on in a car with 300 miles on it, it should work right!!!!!

I'm thinking about buying the new edition of Netters, though I already have a well used one. The new edition of Netters has x-rays in it as some other pretty cool stuff as well.

Anyways, I'm finishing up my lab on Monday, writing the final exam for them, then saying goodbye to my friends the other TA's.

I can't wait to say my hellos cause these goodbyes are really getting me down. Besides all of you guys I've talked to have been really great... so i'm excited. Just gotta make sure I don't forget my brain.

If anyone wants my cell number, just PM me, or IM me...

I'll be around

See you guys soon

E

Yay for KIT!!!! I still can't believe that the AC zonked out that quickly! Glad that everything is okay now though. Oh you might want to consdier holding off on buying the Netters. The students mentioned that if you join of the clubs (it might be AMSA) you automatically get a Netters. So you'll be here in about a week huh? I can't wait! You're going to love it. Everyone is so incredibly friendly. I'm turning into a crazy girl! Vinti is no longer innocent....I went to 2 bars and a club... 😱

keep smiling,
Vinti =)

P.S. Christina....you're soooooo sweet!

ON THE TRAILS>>> I never knew we could have this much fun on a bike... Holly crap it was awesome!!!! I think I am going to pick up a new Trek, if anyone is selling let me know. Thousand THANKS BRAD!

AT THE BARS>>> Yea, well THANKS GUYS!!!!... that was the Best Welcome to KC !!!! Thanks guys!!!! Charles, I'm never having a TAXI again OMG it was strong!

SEE U ALL SOON>>> Summer school starts monday, I hope its not as boring as the other guys said it was. I'm really lookin forward to seeing you guys, Studying, labs. etc etc...

Dave, I got distracted in the middle of our conversation, sorry man. Charles was going to show me his 1980 Benz, mine is 1984... old benz club.

Take care,

Ankur 😛

Hi All,

My wife and I are in Colorado Springs right now. We've been on the road a few days taking a leisurely pace. Tomorrow we're driving up to Rocky Mountain National Park to stay for a few days then its on to KC. We should be in town by Friday or Saturday.

Russell

Hey Everyone,
I finished moving into 1002after my 3 day drive. I'll see you guys during orientation. Also, does anyone know where to buy scrubs cheap? I was looking on teh SDN store and it says its license to sell expired? Also, has anyone bought their medical instruments yet?
Later,
Anthony Hsu

Here is something to celebrate: My roommate is going to KU Med, and they start tomorrow. So celebrate the extra week of summer we get!!

I am now in KC. What is everyone doing Tuesday night? Has anyone been to the cheap beer deal? Anyone want to go? Let me know.

Debbie

I don't know about you guys, but I can barely buy food let alone scrubs or instruments and books!! I will have to wait until we get our money before I purchase any of that stuff!!

Anyway, I look forward to seeing you all at orientation!

Take care,
Vanessa

Hey guys, i got this message from debbie:

***
Vinti-
Hi. Do you have any plans for tonight? I thought maybe some of us could go to Mesa Wraps and Harpos. Would you like to go? Invite anyone you know in CT!!
****

If anyone is interested let me know!! Jammie, Michelle, Christina, Ankur, Charles, Taib, Joe, Anthony, and ANYONE who's reading this...have any plans tonight?? I'm not sure if i'll be there but i'm sure it'll be fun if a whole group can get together....

Also, how about ice cream/movie night tomorrow? I was thinking that maybe we could go get some ice cream/floats and then watch How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days in the CT lounge....HUGE TV. Let me know what you guys think!!

keep smiling everyone,
Superstar =)

Hello everone on this board. My name is Jason, and I will be arriving at KC on the 9th of August, just barely in time for the orientation! I just have a few questions that I need to ask, what is the dress code for the orienation (I vaguely remember that it might be suit and tie, and it will be pretty hot), also when and where.

Thanks

Jason

Hey Jason!! The dress code for orientation is professional (except on the day that we have to do the community service activity). However, I don't think that you have to wear a suit. I'm guessing that a shirt and tie will suffice.

=)

Hi 2007

Congratulations! I thought I might attempt to answer just a couple of things you all had questions about. For our orientation 2 years ago (and it could be different for yours), the first day was professional-as in suits or what you wore to your interview day. It might go business casual later, khakis, etc. however, I'd come dressed to impress your first day. You'll be taking photos, etc. I just share this because the few who weren't dressed up, were feeling pretty awkward-some even left home to change. The department of Student Services would be the official people to ask however since they are in charge of orientation. Hope that helps.

Also, as far as a gym or place to play basketball, etc. The North Kansas City Community Center is great. There are no membership fees, you can pay for whichever months you want and it's still pretty cheap. It's in the actual city of "North KC" which is across the river. There are multiple basketball courts, a rock climbing wall, weights, cardio, swimming pool, etc.

I want to wish you all the best of luck. One of the greatest things about UHS is how well everyone gets a long, and this website just goes to show that. Hope you didn't mind the intrusion by a 2005er.

Best Wishes!

oops!...sorry about the dress code mistake on my part.

Hey Jason,
How are you? It's nice to meet you. Are you moving into CT or another apartment?

Thanks,
Anthony

Ankur

Does anyone know if we need a school pass to park in any of the parking lots at school? or if there are any lots only for faculty and staff, I'd want to avoid parking there?

Thanks,
Anthony

HEY Mi Cocina drunkies!!!!

Last night was awesome, We should make it the designated post-exam party place... Its 8 am and im up, yup even after those tequila shots... thanks JP... you are so hospitable.

PARKING is ok in the student lot until you get the permits. they wont tow your car... it might get stolen, but they wont tow it 😛

Take care
off to the MtB trails

Ankur

Ankur,
Did you get your permit yet? I was wondering if they cost a lot of money?

Brad, where do you go mountain biking, is it far from CT?

Later,
Anthony

Anthony~

there are several different trails I ride on. there is Shawnee Mission which is in shanwee kansas, its about 20-25 from CT. there is Blue River park which is about the 130th and holmes area, about 20 min from CT. then today we rode at Smithville Lake trails which is up north about 20-30 min from CT. and then the best and most challenging trails are at Landhal park which is in blue springs about 30-35 min away. each trail system varies in difficulty and length (but no need to worry, no large cliffs). give me a call sometime and I will tell you more about each trail. ankur has my number.

also, im a member of a mountain biking club here in KC called Earth Riders. its an AWESOME group of mtb'rs in all skill ranges (actually most of them are pretty damn good). you should check out our web site www.earthriders.org you can get a lot of good trail information. talk to ya soon
