So did anyone's status change? Mine didn't!

Just got an interview invite change today. Earliest dates they have available now are mid-January 😱! Still super excited, though! :luck:

When were you complete? Congrats.

Complete late-mid August. Though I called for a status update like 3 weeks ago and the person who answered the phone was surprised I hadn't been reviewed yet and "marked it for inquiry". The next monday I changed to applicant in process and after calling last Thursday and being told I should hear something this week, I got the change today.

So basically that's why I've been repetitively suggesting people call in for status updates. Had I never done that, my app might be buried somewhere.

Can someone explain the difference between Application in process vs. Applicant in process and what it means if it changes back or from one to another?

did anyone get a rejection without a status change? they said they sent me a letter but the page hasn't changed from application in process

I checked my status page religiously, and I got rejected without my status ever changing from application in progress...they hated me that much that I never turned into an applicant from an application! 🙁

It's a little confusing but it seems like "Applicant in Process" means that your application is physically in a pile to be reviewed. What's weird is some people say that their status immediately after submission said "Applicant" and then changed afterward to "Application."

What I would definitely say is known (and talked about earlier on this thread) is that if your status changes from Application in Process to Applicant in Process it means you're being reviewed and could possibly hear a decision in anywhere from 2-8 weeks (some people were told it takes 2...I was told it takes 3-4...somebody else was told it takes 6-8). It can also turn back to Application in Process at that time, indicating they passed over your app for an interview for now, and will review your file later.

So super excited! I just got an interview invite...change in status page!

Complete end of August

Congrats, but Jesus are they slow.

Hi this may be a stupid question but after your status changes to "interview dates not yet scheduled" and you have that list of the available times on your status page, how do you actually go ahead and select a time and location?

Call them quick! They give em out on a first-come first-serve basis. The number should be in the letter they mail home to you.

i just called, i guess there are about 23 times open (jan 23rd) at peoria and rockford. until these spots are filled, they will not release any more dates. when these are filled, dates will be open after the 23rd of jan.

Bump!

How's things going UIC applicants?

I had my interview about 2 weeks ago. "Decision Pending" on the status page. I'll probably find out first week of dec. hopefully everything works out..

I had my interview on 10/29. Was told the adcom would meet this week and I should expect an admit/waitlist decision sometime during the first week of December. "Decision Pending" for me, too.

Hi everyone!

I think I may have read somewhere else in this forum that the assignments to the Chicago campus are divided into thirds - one-third for those from northern Illinois, one-third for those from southern Illinois, and one-third for the out-of-staters. Does this sound correct, or am I making this up?

Also - my interview is on the 19th of December. Does anyone think that I'll make the December adcom meeting? I'd love to know my status before Christmas!!

Good luck everyone!!

The Chicago campus thing sounds incorrect. The Chicago campus is filled up as people are accepted. Darn near everybody, I would think, puts Chicago as their first choice. So placement has nothing to do with where you live in the state, but on how early you were accepted. From what I've heard, Chicago campus normally fills up around February. People will withdraw their spots from UIC as the year progresses, opening places at Chicago. According to UIC, these are filled on the basis of those who were first accepted and put Chicago as their first choice but who weren't originally assigned that campus (e.g. Accepted in February, assigned to Peoria in March, they contact you in April about an open spot at the Chicago campus).

I bet, however, that periodically being vocal about your desire to change once you've been assigned a non-chicago campus helps your chances of being reassigned to Chicago, though I also interviewed in Rockford last year and a girl said that she tried to change furiously after her assignment and still ended up in Rockford (but that she's very, very happy there).

Your question about making the December meeting is a good one, which I would imagine will be answered on your interview date--please post when they tell you the answer. Because they normally meet the 3rd Thursday/Friday of every month (4th when Thursday is one of the first days of that month), and that 3rd Thursday is the 20th in December, my guess would be no. However, things were adjusted this month because of Thanksgiving (they're meeting this week it seems) so I bet things might be adjusted due Christmas and New Years. Also, I don't know if UIC has a holiday/winter break of some sort, which would suggest they don't meet in December at all. I interview on 1/18 so I have equal interest to know when they'd review my file if their meeting is the 24th/25th that month.

I thought that the Chicago assignments were first come, first serve. The dean told us that usually the Chicago spots are filled up by late December/early January, but some open up later on as people make their final decisions.

I'm resisting the urge by telling myself there can't be a decision if they haven't met yet.

They had a false haz-mat alarm today... its all over the news!

haha...I think it's out of habit considering they make you obsess over it pre-interview.

bump

today is the big day for us post interview people

It's funny that we're all nervous, since the whole "status change means acceptance" thing is purely anecdotal.

Those who got interviews what were your stats and ECs? Thank you

I've yet to hear of somebody who's gotten the "decision has been made on [date]..." message post-interview before June who hasn't been accepted.

Also, I wonder if even though the decision might be made today, it might not show up on your status immediately.

My status changed either the day after or two days after, it wasn't on the same day.

also i think they said waitlist and reject decisions are sent through email

pray none of us gets an email in the coming week

The dean told us that at this point in the process, no one gets a reject. Everyone's either direct admit or waitlist.

Where did you hear this?
At our interview the dean said they don't send any correspondence via email, they do it all by snail.

They don't do much by email, but they do some. I received the following email last after the October admission committe meeting:

The Committee on Admissions of the UIC College of Medicine reviewed your
application last month. We wish to advise you that no final decision has
been reached on your application, but that you are still under consideration.

Please note that the Committee reserves the right to withhold all final
decisions until June 1st. You will receive another email later in the year
to update you of your status in the process.

We ask that you notify us of mailing address or phone number changes so we
may communicate promptly with you.

Now it is my understanding that you are reviewed again at each successive admissions committee meeting until they reach a decision on it, but I'm not entirely sure of that. If anyone knows for sure about this, please post! Thanks!

What are the chances of getting accepted off the waitlist?

Nope. They're pretty adamant about not telling you anything over the phone. Historically, the status pages appear to say "A decision was made on ..." blah blah and then a few days later, a big envelope arrives with an acceptance inside.

I can imagine a couple of secretaries sitting there right now saying, "nahhh, let's just wait till Monday to put these changes in."

Others have said their status page didn't change for a day or two. Nothing on my end.

as far as the letters getting mailed they said at my inter on 11/19 that the dean wants to physically sign them this year as opposed to the stamp they usually use so they said it might take a couple days longer (they still said we should know by the first week of december)
