Hey everyone,
Just a few questions. I have commonly heard of Americans/Canadians going to Ireland for their education but what about the UK? Is it relatively easy to get residency back in Canada or the States from the UK given that it is a commonwealth nation? Has anyone interviewed or researched the UK route.

Any insight would be great
Thanks

Hey there, in Canada the UK schools are regarded in the same way as the Irish and Australian schools, that is, you're an IMG but from a recognised medical training system (and one that is recognised as good) . Getting into residency is easier from any of these programs than from, say, the Caribbean, but you are still applying as an IMG.
As to the reason that you don't hear much about Canadian and American students applying to these programs, that would be beacuse not many do. The Irish schools keep a certain number of (very expensive) spots for North American students and so have a much higher number of students from there enrolled. The UK schools do not do this, so you are applying as an international student to a program that will accept a few such, and doesn't have any spots specifically designated for your country. People do get in, but not as many as with Ireland. If you do a search of this forum you will find many posts on this subject.
Cheers,
M
