Hi SDN..I recently got accepted to UMDNJ-NJMS. I am curious about the scholarship or grants that are available from UMDNJ. My stats include: MCAT 32 and GPA 3.8 and strong ECs. Does UMD-NJMS offer any merit scholarships to students with my stats? and How much?
It is least likely that they would offer any but around what stats can someone expect any merit scholarship from UMDNJ-NJMS? Responses from current UMDNJ-NJMS/RWJMS students would be greatly appreciated!

Also I am not URM but financially disadvantaged. Just curious how much need-based aid do students get at medical schools in general or to UMDNJ schools. Do you think the need based aid stays the same regardless of which medical school one attends? I think they stay the same because of same EFC figure on the FAFSA applcation.

My family's financial situation is not very great, therefore I am also looking for some outside scholarship opporunities that I can apply for since I have ample time on my hands. Anyone know any outside scholarship opportunities?

Thank you in advance!👍

I cannot speak for UMDNJ-NJMS, so I will let someone else answer. However, were you already accepted to UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson? (you didn't mention that?) (they are very separate schools with I imagine different policies with things like this).

I did not get any decision from RWJMS yet. Which is weird since the interview it was about a month and half ago. But I am keeing my hopes up?:xf:Scholarship/aid info about RWJMS would also be great.

I know a kid who got accepted to NJMS, and received a nice merit scholarship. I think it was about half-tuition off for all 4 years, or something like that. He had a 39 MCAT though, FWIW.

RWJMS has full tuition and partial tuition academic scholarships for students with outstanding credentials (regardless of financial situation). You do not apply for these, they let you know (usually in the spring sometime), if you are offered one of these.

There are also scholarships for students coming from a lower socioeconomic background (regardless of URM status).

how much need-based aid can one expect from UMD-NJMS or RWJMS if the EFC is 0? Is it a few grands or over 10k or something? Just curious.
thanks

If your EFC is 0, then I supposed you wouldn't qualify for a need-based aid anywhere. Correct me if I'm wrong.

An EFC of 0 would normally indicate that the person would receive the maximum amount of need based aid.

i cant answer for NJMS, but i have a full tuition scholarship for RWJ for 4 years. its merit based and they just randomly called me last spring to tell me i got it. i had MCATS of 32 and GPA 3.95, lots of extracurriculars. they sent out an email saying they had scholarships available and i just emailed back with a few questions about what they were based off of. next thing i know, i got one. about 8 other people also got a full scholarship. so if you end up getting into RWJ, def be on the lookout for the email cause going to med school for free is prettyyy nice. good luck!

Bluehen,

NJMS applicant here with MCATs 39 and 4.0 GPA and currently awaiting to hear from NJMS about scholarship.

Can you tell me if all students who got the scholarship were in the traditional pool of applicants? By that, I mean do you know anyone from 7 year BS/MD programs that got a scholarship?

Also, about when did they let you know about your scholarship?
