what about the DAT?

wow, yer right on top of things 😀

DAT: 21AA/23TS/20PAT

The problem with this is the numbers matter, but so does everything else...the only way to truly understand that fact is to apply. Then, you'll wonder why NYU accepted you with no interview and BU couldn't care less that you're breathing.

wow 3.7 - that's great how did you do it?

Graduate school was much more focused. For some reason, I had a difficult time taking the HUGE variety of courses offered in undergrad. Focusing down to several related topics in grad school worked wonders for my GPA. 🙂

or maybe it's because everybody in grad school gets automatic As... seriously, it only took me one year to get my MS in neuroscience and it was much easier than my BA

d-school prereqs like orgo, biochem, physics, etc are 100x harder than grad school level course, no doubt!

Holy crap are you serious?? I've been doing a "post-bac" over the past year and a half retaking pre-req's and upper level bio's and going to start a masters in bio this summer at georgia state. So grad bio classes are much easier than undergrad pre-req's????? Say it's so....

Grad school classes DEFINITELY weren't easier in my opinion. I thought they were quite a bit more difficult, actually. The difference is that MOST grad programs do not want you to fail out. If you've made the cut to get into the program, generally they will do all they can to keep you around. Also, I went from 6+ classes a semester down to 3 plus research. The sheer volume of undergrad was an issue for me, I suppose. Then again, that was 10+ years ago... 😉

sumozmom, listen you are never going to get into dental school if you keep using this website as a crutch.

We all know your a single mother who has a computer job and is takin classes to apply to dental school and you are old.

Just take the classes, get A's and get accepted. You will get grants galore since your a single mom and I am sure youll be able to get lots of low interest loans, etc.

Youll get in if you just work for it and stay off this website. Also, I worked while I went to school and got all A's and have a family too.

Its no big deal and a person can do whatever they want IF THEY WANT IT.

So log off and go study.

I don't think I have seen your stats anywhere, is that correct?

You keep wanting to judge others on this website to see if you will fail/succeed.

Just go do it. Everyone has their own personal circumstances that they must overcome and from your posts you seem like you need lots of encouragement.

Heres my advice, if you have to post ignorant threads on this site to motivate you to get through the basic of pre-reqs in undergrad then I fear that you will fail.

You need motivation from yourself. If I were you I would question myself as to why I am even doing this.

If you cant get through these pre-reqs you will never make it through dental school at all.

Alright????? Let's try to stay focused here. Does anybody else have sub-3.0 acceptance stories to tell? Also, add any info about how you feel you made up for your low GPA's. I love success stories 👍 .

Andy, we here at LSU-OMFS are not very pleased with your quest for mediocracy and we are also not very impressed with your candidness regarding your lackluster performance in undergrad and dental school. Also, it is insulting the way that you have posted all of your mediocre numbers on the web and called yourself the CEO of the under 3.0 club.

We sincerely hope that you enjoy your senior year of dental school since your life is in for an abrupt change.

also, everyone should note that Yah-e applied in 2002. standards are a lot different now. I was speaking to an adcom the other day and she said that the average dat score for the next cycle will mostly likely be a 19/18. i think this year it was a 18/17.

anyways, will people please share more success stories!?

oh!...and another thing, i've been noticing that most people who get accepted with sub-3 gpas are older, non-traditional applicants. Are there younger applicants (21-23) who have been accepted with sub-3 gpas?

thanks.

Oh c'mon! Can't I reflect on my failures and enjoy my current success? BTW, my dental school wasn't bad at all? No worries, I'll work hard and rock the USMLE Step 1!!

My past is what made who I am today, no shame brother! 😀

This is very true, I don't think I would've gotten in today with my 2002 Post-Bac grades! NSU-CDM with the current 60 students who committed a seat for 2006-2007, their cumulative GPA is a 3.66 and average DAT 19.7!

Hello everybody. This is my first time posting. Im glad to announce that I will be going to Tufts University ( Class of 2010 ). For those of you out there who have low grades.... Stop reading these threads, they are full of innacurate information with people that are only trying to scare you into not applying. Look at the interview feedback and nothing else. Apply EARLY and forget what other people say. Remember, its the admission committee that has to reject your application. Stay positive and remember that getting a rejection from dental school is not the end of the world. There is always next year or a post bac. program you can do. Stay productive and out of trouble in the time you are waiting for your interviews/answers. Remember, if they invite you to an interview that means they consider you as a potential candidate for their program. There is still 2 months left in the game for those applying. Maybe you all know this and Im just wasting my time but good luck anyway.

If you are a minority, that probably helps a lot too. Minorities don't have the achieve the same high numbers that white students have to.

LOL he's angry now

I agree with you Jedi...but why you stressing her? who cares.

Anyways, key for low GPA is HIGH DAT.
At least do that for yourself. Don't try to get into dental school by luck.

Smash the DAT and make up for your low GPA to be competitive!
If you keep your science GPA close to 3.0...you'll be "ok"

I really have nothing to show - i've said it all in my past posts....I have a 2.5 in my BS Accounting Grad in 1991.( Sci GPS (3.0)
I just started my per-rec in Jan.06...w/ chem and Calc so far Some b's some a's....I will take my DAT April of 2007. I talked to Admissnions and they said I really need A's even to be considered and 20's on DAT.
SO....I'm Freeeeekin b/c I'm busting my butt and all i'm getting is hi B's. I won't even take o-chem till Fall 06, So I have a while to go. I'm panicing b/c this is what I really want to do and balancing twins / and working 45 hrs a week is tough on top of school.

So I was wondering what others got into school with...Inspirational Success stories.
At the end of my pre-rec journey ...I will come back to this post and put mine in...🙂

If you have to take 33 credits then I seriously doubt this post will be here in th 6 years it will take you if your only taking a class or two at a time.

Next, that low of an accounting average will kill you. Everyone knows how easy business classes are in college. Those were the classes I loved to take. You hardly study and get over 100% in each class cause they are so much easier than science classes. I have no clue how you have a higher science average over business. I could have gotten a business degree and not even studied.

Next, WHY IN THE HECK ARE YOU ENROLLED IN CALCULUS. Thats crazy. Over half schools dont even require it and they shouldnt neither, its a ridiculous class thats worthless.

Anyways, good luck. You will need it cause its gonna be hard to do all of this while working and it will be difficult to get a dental school to forgive you for your past when there are so many talented individuals who do it right on the first go around.

Why not just be a dental hygenist?

Sorry to interrupt but I don't think this is necessary to get your point across. Everyone who comes onto SDN uses the gpas and DAT scores that others post as a gauge to their own chances. This lady just makes it more obvious. If you don't like this thread, then just gracefully slip away...

By the way, I think calculus is very necessary. It teaches you the fundamentals that you'll need in physics.

CALCULUS IS FUNDAMENTAL FOR PHYSICS???

That is a really really stupid statement. I guess I must just be a genious cause I did not have it and I got A's in both my physics classes.

Whatever dude? You seriously think a person needs calculus??????????????????????

Man if you want to start an argument with me at least find something good to argue over.

Calculus is needed? nope!

I'm not sure I agree with you a hundred percent on your police work there Lou. The material you covered in your 2 physics classes could probably have been condensed into a half of a chapter in a standard physics text book had the professor been allowed to utter the word "integration". Calculus has many real word applications outside of physics as well, from chemistry to economics. Ask your investment banking buddies how often they use it. I consider your statements an affront to those of us with at least a tacit understanding of mathematics. What was your QR score again?
