Hey guys,
I'm logging into U-online, and at the first screen after login, it states that pressing the "continue" button is an easy way for the registrar to confirm our intent on registering/attending for the spring 2006 semester. Shyrem/anyone else on U-online, did you go ahead with pressing the continue button? I'd hate to be registered for the spring (albeit it's already in session) semester if I'm starting in the fall. Any thoughts?

Did you guys receive the orientation/information packets already?...I haven't received anything yet..should I be worried? 🙁

Not yet (ie. orientation material/financial aid mail etc.), but received a letter from the dean notifying us that we will be receiving more mail in the near future.

I don't remember anything like that. But considering the spring semester has already started and is in full swing, I wouldn't worry about it. Besides, you can't register for Spring - if you go to the registration menu, it won't let you register, and the spring semester schedule is in "View Only" mode.

Hey Guys. Pipeline is so dead.

No one is adding themselves to the group class of 2010.

There really is not much point of doing so either since this summer they will get rid of it.

BTW, did you guys know that you can vote for this thread. On the top there are stars with the word Rating --> select that and vote.

Fozzie and all the rest of ya'll,
I still havent heard any word. I gave Lisa a ring last week when it had been 5 weeks, and like I said before, she said they they are revamping the admissions process and getting a new dean so its slowed. Needless to say, when I hear of other people who interviewed well after me already getting in, I start to lose hope. But I still am wishing and praying. Right now I am busy taking an EMT class and working hard at my job. I work with kids with autism and other difficulties, which is both incredibly difficult and incredibly rewarding all at the same time. I come home beat up from kids kicking, biting, scratching, punching me and look forward to the next day when one of the kids might be able to complete a puzzle by himself or brush his teeth by himself and I get a hug from him. So thats whats up with me. You cant believe how jealous I am of all of you who are already accepted. Take care guys and hopefully I will be able to officially call myself a member of the class soon.

You may be just on the fence.

Others may have gotten accepted... that is normal. Especially if they have great stats. Just remember.. you will go till the end.. and then you will take that decision like a man. What ever happens happens... That is my motto anyway.

So does people at UNECOM use apple laptop or PC? 🙂 should i get a palm or PocketPC for PDA? In addition, the tuition this year is around 38K however, i was reading the financial aid info, it said the federal subsidized/unsubsidized loan max limit is 38K per year.... so what am I gonna do for my room and board expenses?....bank loan has higher interest and the you can't defer the repayment during residency 🙁.. can someone shed some light on this please? 🙁 😡

Ever see one of those old firetrucks rigged with what essentially is an F-15 jet engine? Wicked!!
I'm a Mac user. I work for Apple Retail so I'm going to toss that out there so I show my bias. Honestly though, I have a friend who is an MSII with a Dell laptop who hates it (we put an Apple sticker on her laptop to pretend and also to poke fun at one of the 1/3 Mac users in the 2nd year class) I currently own an iMac G5 and just purchased the 12" Powerbook. Both have kick arse RAM and handle powerpoint, excel, word, Palm OS software No Worries whatsoever. Plus, no need for anti-virus, anti-spyware or anti-adware programs. Stability, ease of use, and well, I'd be Apple support for anyone to the best of my abilities 😀
Plus, being that UNECOM is close to Boston and Salem, NH if a Mac needs support they can be taken to any Apple Store for it. (We have a couple retail stores in the greater Boston area and also in Salem, NH.)
Okay, off the soap box. Palm is the way to go. Mac is great. I'll give free classes on both systems when I'm there!!!
Plus, at www.apple.com/store we can get educational discounts on computers, ipods, software, and Applecare service plans. Now, I swear I'm officially off my soap box. By means of avoiding further studying . . .

these books are a huge matter or personal preference. I'll tell you up front that the only book you'd probably really NEED out of that list is the Histo book. Maybe biochem, but they're change the format of the course again. In any case, do NOT buy your books yet. Wait until the class begins to see if you will need them. For instance, I had no less than 5 different books i used for anatomy, but NONE for embryology, pharmacology or physiology (thus far).

Oh, and don't listen to second years about book choices really, what worked for them may or may not work for you. Look into our advice maybe, but don't buy purely based on it.

Spend that money on beer!

As for Powerpoint copies, depends on the prof. Some will give you copies, some make them available electronically, some don't give you any of that at all. If you join Note Service, for a nominal fee, you will recieve transcripts of every lecture tho.

I calculated the total cost (tuition, books, computer, insurance, living expenses, etc.) for UNE - it's about $60,300 or so for each year. Yes, pricey. Tuition is $37,300, including admin fees and malpractice ins. So you'll need to turn to alternative loans. T.H.E. does alternative as well as Stafford loans (link on UNE FA website), sorry looks like it doesn't cut and paste well, but here's the info:

Then I won't have to worry about it later.

After reading all about school stats, and people turning down UNECOM due to the decreasing pass rate on boards, I have come to my conclusion regarding those stats. It is depending on the student body rather than the school, as long as the school offers help/support to the students to become successful. In UNECOM's case, they do pay close attention to the student's needs, and the only variable that can contribute to the school stats is basically us.

Let's work hard together for the next two years, increase our class COMLEX and USMLE step I passing rate, and show the other D.O. schools what we're made of and the quality of education at UNECOM is the best. 🙂

Nobody can leave the school from 7:00am to midnight and just study our brains out hahaha...

Hang in there Redwings, you seem like a very compassionate person who will make a great doctor. Have you sent an update letter/letter of intent? That might be an idea if you haven't, because clearly you really want UNECOM. Everything always works out one way or another, I have learned that over and over, and I really do hope you get to join the class of 2010 soon 🙂

My mind is at ease - my credit score is pretty good. I shouldn't need a co-signer for my private loans. I've been looking at the alternative loan options, and while MELA looks good, their website says it's for Maine residents only. So looks like THE for me. Anyone else preparing for the onslaught of debt up to your eyeballs?

Should I be doing anything else to prepare other than wait for FA awards and the 'copious communications' to come? Besides pack, that is. 🙂

I just filed my FASFA, and mailing out my supplemental financial aid application for UNECOM in addition to the verification of independent student form, oh yeah plus the direct deposit tuition refund form. I signed in to U-online with my PRN and PIN, and I got access to pipeline.une.edu checked my e-mail, joined groups such as class 2010, are we class 2010 or 2011? what's going on? heh..

oh yeah I have a nice laptop i bought last year for 1900, would the school (give me 2000 dollars for it)? or do i lose the allowance if I didn't buy a new laptop through the school?. I would really like to use that 2000.00 cash for something else.. since I already have a good laptop. This way i can get a pocket PC PDA smartphone, because all my friends who're in orthopedic surgery told me to get a PDA smartphone instead of the PDA (why carry two things if you can have one for both) plus all the doctors just call each other on cell phone anyways.. nobody uses the pager and the nurse station phone anymore.

does anybody have insight on this? Palm OS is getting phased out.. hehe.. so I'm going with windows mobile 5.0 PDA/smartphone...

As a tablet PC user myself, I HIGHLY recommend them. They are really great for note service and powerpoint note taking. I have the Toshiba Tecra M4 and i <3 it. 😀 One bad thing about it though, it CANNOT deal with medical terms in the handwriting-to-text conversion, but that has been very minor for me thus far.

NICE!!!!!.. thanks buddie for the confirmation info.... i can definitely use the 1200.00 out of the 2000.00 to pay for my cable/internet for the whole year. use the rest for PDA/smartphone.

Hey ShyRem,

I also had a problem getting into the pipeline. I had to call the help line and a gentleman had helped me by giving me a password to get into the pipeline and then I had to reset my password. I hope that helps some.
