it won't take very long... don't worry 😉

i'm looking to take the online Biochemistry course through UNECOM. I was wondering if anyone has taken it to determine how well the concepts are covered and how difficult it is.

http://distance.une.edu/

Thanks!!! 😀

steve can prob answer that for you.

Btw, why are you taking Bioch if you are in BCM 2010???

we don't need biochem for admittance, but i need biochem to graduate from my undergrad. my school is in new orleans, so because i decided no to go back, and the institution i currently attend only offers biochem 2 this semester, i'm needing biochem. as you probably can figure out, most undergrads don't offer biochem during the summer, and if they do, its in 5 weeks, which would be tough to learn.

the website for UNECOM's online biochem looks really legit. but its expensive ($1100), so I want to make sure its as good as it needs to be.

Who's steve and how can i get in touch with him?

gee, thanks for throwing me to the wolves everyone. 🙄

I'm currently enrolled in the distance biochemistry course. So far, its good. I find it requires self-discipline to stay focused on watching the dvd lectures, objectives, study questions and taking the exams. If you need a biochem class (non-lab based) and can afford the tuition then I suggest it. I enjoy the clinical based examples throughout each chapter. It helps solidify learning of the material in a quasi-practical sense. I need to take the on-campus final by the first week of May. Therefore, I need to get crackin!

Oh, on a side note, I found out yesterday that I was selected by the Navy for the HPSP scholarship I applied fo!!!! 😀 👍
So, looks like I won't be needing to worry about loans out the rear.

ANy UNECOM class of 2006 to 2009 Know if the match results are out.

Any information would be great

Thanks

Hey Steve,

That's great to hear! Have you had any prior service? I am having my board for the Air Force HPSP this coming Tuesday. I have 10+ years in the Army.... greatful that I will be able to get out of that branch and into the AF. Are you planning on being part of the veterans group at UNECOM? Also, does the school still require you to fill out financial aid forms since you are in the HPSP?

Steve

Hey guys,

quick question. Do any of you, espcially those who have spent some time in the area know of any equestrian centers in the area? I ride now, and will def be looking for a barn in the area... a great way to release some stress 🙂
If any of you know of anywhere, that would be great.
Note: I am not looking to board (my horse will stay in CT) just ride, take some lessons etc. Preferably somewhere down to earth, I hate snobby horse farms 🙂

Thanks,

Jess

-Oh, and congrats Steve! Thanks for serving!

Hey jess.

Yay horse people! I grew up on a horse farm and used to show quite a bit, but not anymore.

I can tell you that there IS an equestrian center nearby, although the details about it escape me at the moment. There's a certain Jess in my class that rides as well, and is quite experienced in that area. She's one of the OLs as well and I'll try to get her to forward details to you.

Oh yeah, and congrats to Steve on rocking the Navy, ex-USAF style.

Cheers

Boy today was fun.

I was dealing with loans and stuff. Banks are nice to you when you want a loan. Especially since they know you will be well off in a few years.

So one step closer. Now just waiting from paper from the School. ahhh yesss.. fun stuff.

Just wanted to say thanks to Jess for the NHSC info...I agree.

Good luck!

Ryan.

Hi, I too am part of class 2010 and am in the process of looking for a place to stay. From what I've been told is that will be one of our biggest challenges. I agree with you about the snow in Colorado, I lived in Colorado Springs for three years.

Hello all. I was actually accepted last year to UNECOM but I am not going until this year. I didn't realize this website had stuff like this. Docbill actually found me on my space and told me to join so here I am. Fozziewan knows me very well too but probably doesn't like to admit it haha.

Anytime Ryan, good luck to you too 🙂

Thanks one-of-many-Steves, hehe, for the great information. I guess UNE likes equestrians named Jess, or something 🙂. I also grew up on a small farm, and showed some in college, so I am psyched that there will be nice places to ride in the Biddeford area.

Anyway, I hope everyone else is doing well!

Hi guys, I'll be joining the class of 2010 as well! Just want to say "hello" to my fellow classmates. I'm moving from Boston with my husband and newborn baby. You can add me to the list - I'm 31.

Does anybody know the schedule of classes for the first block? I need to plan daycare. I know it's something close to 9 to 5 due to anatomy lab - but I'd love to look at a class schedule from last year's class if possible. Can't seem to find it on the website.

Well, my gf is looking for a job in Maine, 🙂 how much are you paying for day care? since she is moving up with me, we can maybe nail two birds with one stone? let me know hehe

Hi Everyone:
I am looking for a roomate to share a house with in Biddeford. The house is a 2 bedroom, living room, bath, kitchen, dining, full basement, parking, washer dryer, etc., for something in the region of $450-$495 (per person, 50/50 on it all). We would split everything. The house is about 3.5 miles from UNECOM in a very quiet, residential area (NOT that busy portion by Pool Road). It includes heat, electricity, hot/cold water, local phone service, sewer, etc...the owner, whom I know, is including ALL utilities...and I mean everything.

If you are interested, the lady who owns the house rents through a local agent, so you would have to be approved by him (credit, etc.) and sign a lease, which is very reasonable.

I am looking for a quiet person, who is reasonably neat, responsible, and easy-going (i.e., easy to get along with...). If you are at all interested, shoot me an e-mail at [email protected], and we can discuss it, and I can supply you with more information.

I have this advertised on the UNE Biddeford listings over at UNE's Housing website if you want more info, or just e-mail me!

Looking forward to meeting you all...in about 4 months!!

Regards,

Ryan.

I'm getting really excited to meet everyone too! Hey, do any of you guys snowboard or ski? I know spring is just starting and winter is FINALLY ending but I was checking out the all-east college pass and it's pretty cheap (if you buy in like October)... plus Sunday River is like 1.5 hours ish! I'm so excited to be coming back to good ol' New England for some real riding😀

and welcome, Darkiris and splat 🙂

I snowboard.. 🙂 in fact i met the D.O. who got me thinking about Osteopathic Medicine (whom was also an alumni from UNECOM) when I torn my hand ligament at Sunday River last winter during my company's ski strip.

Okay Everyone,

I decided to start looking for a place. In case someone gets a place and this matches.

Not looking for something too fancy (300-400$- cheaper the better).

Prefer on the beach close to the school, 5-20 min walk (I enjoy walking).
It Could be A small room (3 or 4 walls), enough for bed and desk.

A must in a roommate:
-CLEAN, CLEAN, CLEAN.. did I mention CLEAN
-RESPECTFUL
-NO smoking
-NO pets (sorry, its that clean thing)
-Friendly, NOT MOODY and BITCHY (guys and girls)
-Someone who would clean up afterthemselves
-Someone who is not lazy
-Somone who doesn't blast the music or TV.
-DEFINTELY NOT one who runs around screaming the sky is falling, when a test in coming up.
-Prefer a person in my age range
-A must is someone who exchanges acts of kindness*

*For example, I don't mind sharing my stuff with my roomate, example, I know how to cook, so when I do have time, I make enough and prefer to share. If I make coffee, I share. If I am going to pick up something I don't mind getting roomy something along the way. etcc... etc.. etc..

Apartment for rent - $450/mo!!!

Three current MS1s are looking for a fourth roommate. We have decided that a female roommate would add a positive dynamic to the house, so preference will be given accordingly.

141 Alfred St., an easy 10 minute drive from campus, and convenient to all locations in Biddeford. Room is of a good size, with two windows that get morning sunshine, and it has a spacious walk in closet. You will be sharing a bathroom with one other student. There is a fully furnished kitchen and living room, with all the amenities, however the bedroom is not furnished. Washer and dryer, heat, hot water, electricity, sewer and garbage removal are included in the rent. Off street parking and small communal balcony one the front which is great in the summer. Wireless broadband and digital cable are extra on top of the rent, and amount to around $26 a month.

The building houses three other medical students, all current MS1s. We are all clean, though not obsessively so. We are non-smokers, and currently have no pets, although there may be a cat moving in next semester. We are generally quiet, respectful, easy-going, and self-confessed cool guys.

Rent: $450/mo! Our landlord is a current MS3 who owns the house. All utilities included! AWESOME deal, all around. You will also have access to our old notes, books and sage advice. 😛

Hey Guys, does everyone know about pipeline at UNE. We won't have this for too much longer, but for the time being it is a good way of getting hold of everyone, their real name and emailing them.

We have 23 people here, but only like 16 there.

http://pipeline.une.edu/cp/home/loginf

follow instructions to get password and username.

The passes to Sunday River come in the shape of regular tickets, all in one passes, All East passes and mEtickets; as long as we still qualify as being 'full-time' college students, the college All East passes are $375 from now until 10.24.06. If you think about how much it costs for one day of skiing, the All East pass gives you a whole season for the price of 6 skiing days! There are no blackout dates and it is unlimited. If you wanted to try out the Sunday-Friday all East pass, there are black out dates (including all Saturdays), but it only costs $299.

I *mapquested* it from the school and it says that it is 2 hours flat... so 1.5 hours from portland 👍

Hi everyone!

My name is Carly....I'm also starting at UNECOM in August. Really looking forward to meeting everyone soon! I've rented a year-round apartment (top floor of a house) on Hills Beach Road and I'm looking for a roommate to share it with. Little bit about the place....

Two bedrooms, one full bathroom, full kitchen, spacious living room and dining area, partly furnished, wood floors throughout, fireplace, deck/balcony, dishwasher, washer, dryer, basement storage area....very cozy, 2/10 of a mile from school, short walk to the beach 🙂

Rent is $600/person/month (slightly higher than other places on Hills Beach....I was told this is because it's year-round)

Available as early as June, I'm planning on moving in mid-July.

Please contact me if interested! Email is [email protected], I'll also keep checking back here

Hey Shannon,

I am glad to hear that I am not the lonesome thrill seeker here. I am psyched to think how close we are to some good resorts. I had a chance to visit Sunnapee in NH and Okemo in VT. I see my thanksgiving break on the slopes, if we are not overwhelmed with school will be skiing!

Hey all. Hope that everyone is doing well. I am just writing to update you all on my present situation. I called Lisa Lane today as it has been 10 weeks since I interviewed. She appologized for the delay and said a decision on my case was going to be made this Saturday so I should know next week. So needless to say, next week I am going to be super anxious. In other news, I wrecked my knee a few weeks back and finally got it checked out today. I found out that I had sprained my MCL and that I have patella tendonitis. So not the worst diagnosis, but not cool either. And then today before my appoinment, at work, I got bit by one of my students and got a huge, nasty hematoma on my arm. But other than that, things are going great. If anyone has AIM, drop me a line. My name is in my profile so feel free to write. Take care everyone and hopefully I will have good news next week.

Hi, my name is Romeo Lucas and I am a 3rd Year med student at UNECOM.

I am renting my house out to any students coming to UNECOM next year. Rooms are $450/month + bills (3 roommates) and $400/month + bills (4 roommates). Here's how it works: When 3 people sign on to live in the house, I will ask if you three want to let in another roommate to have your rent go down. (email, call or IM with more questions)

The house has 4 bedrooms, 3 baths, kitchen (w/dishwasher), dining room, TV room, Study room/office, laundry room (with washer and dryer), bar and wine cellar basement, screened in porch, large 2 car garage, huge backyard, tons more.

The house is in Biddeford, located 3 miles from UNECOM, .5 miles from downtown, and 4 miles from the beach (word).

This house's lore is fabled (ask about Clifford Street Pub). It is a UNECOM icon. Too bad I have to go on to rotations in sunny Newark, NJ.

email ([email protected]), IM (UDporkchop on AIM) or call me at (732) 207-9749.

look forward to meeting you.

Can one of the current medical students fill me in on the class schedule during the first block of the first year? Do classes begin at 8am or 9am? What time is anat lab generally over? Are there any breaks inbetween? How often does the average student stay on campus after classes (for anatomy lab)?

I was actually looking for my old first semester schedule in response to your first post but I can't find it, so i'm going purely on recollection here. Also, I know they're changing your anatomy schedule from four days a week to five! 😱 Or at least that's the scuttlebutt, so please, take everything I say with a grain of salt. Here's your schedule up until around the middle of October. Embryology will wrap up quickly, and will then be replaced by Biochem. Histo will finish mid november and be replaced by Immunology. Remember, these are just my experiences, and things might be different for your class.

There is a 10 minute break at the end of every 50 minutes of class, and there are no classes scheduled between 12 and 1. Usually there are interesting but not manditory lectures over lunch.

Anatomy: Roughly an hour of lecture and 3 hours of dissection per day. You probably will have to come in at other times to get as much done as you half to though. For us it was 3 mornings a week plus wednesday afternoon. 8-12 or 1-5. Some days you'll finish your dissection early, but you'll want to get ahead for days when you lag behind. Depending on how easily anatomy comes to you, and your dissection group, you should count on spending at least a little extra time in here working. And definately expect to put in some long hours studying in there before the tests.

Histology: A largely unnecessary 2 hour class once or twice a week, and then an 1.5 hour lab section once a week. Lab was always in the afternoon, usually monday. Half the class goes in 1-230, then the other half 230-4.

Embryology: A two hour lecture once or twice a week. I seem to remember friday afternoons for this one.

OPP: This was always tuesday morning 9-12 for us. Hour lecture, two hour lab. Manditory.

Foundations of Doctoring: This was always 8-12 Wednesday for us. Two hours of lecture, two hours of small groups/H&P/cases etc. Also Manditory.

Generally, classes start at 8 in the morning and generally wrap at either 3 or 5. Thursday afternoons will probably be free for you guys, unless you have a preceptorship assignment, in which case you go out with a doc for 4 hours.

You will quickly learn what classes you are going to go to, and which ones you are not. Very few people go to all the classes. Only OPP and FOD are required classes.

Hope that helps,
Steve R.

PS: The rafting trip is on this year!!! You should definately consider doing it cause it ROCKED last year. 👍 👍 Expect info in a mailing in a month or so.

PSS: Our room for rent is 450 a month! Great deal! All utilities included! It's no clifford street pub but we get by 😉

Wow that is quite a list you've got there. 😉

If I am going to pick up something I don't mind getting roomy something along the way. etcc... etc.. etc..

What's up guys,

I'm heading up this weekend (April 1st to the 3rd) to hunt down a place to live for the next let's say two to three years (i don't want to do the seasonal, and I don't want to move in and out every time, especially when I have to take the board exam). I just want to move once and that'll be the end of it.

any advices, suggestions, or stay-aways that I should know about before I commit myself to an either two-years of warm happy home or two-years of depressing broken dump.

Wow the class list on pipeline is getting bigger now, cool.....so far I've resisted to create a myspace profile... ahhh the force is strong for this one. However, I do have my own personal website and..::::not sharing:::. 😱
