What do you all think about the list? Personally, I was surprised to see Colorado on there. I liked the program a lot, and it was my #3. Guess I won't be going too far down my list!

It goes to show that in the modern age of the internet and the web, it is impossible to hide anything and a program's reputation is effected by impressions and rumors which spread fast.

Can someone post the unmatched program list for Categorical Internal Medicine?
Thanx!!!!

Please note that posting the unfilled list for the 2006 match is a direct violation of NRMP rules.

In the past, NRMP has patrolled similar forums so please abide by the rules for your own benefit.

I was surprised by Wisconsin and Dartmouth. I know Dartmouth had unfilled spots last year too and I'm sure it's mostly b/c they suffer from their location. I loved both of those programs but my wife promised (not threatened, promised) to divorce me if I ranked Dartmouth. Wisco on the other hand was my #5 choice. I don't think that there is a better IM PD out there right now than Bennett. There may be some almost as good but I doubt there are any better. When I asked him what changes were in store for the next couple of years in the program, he spent 20 minutes outlining his 12 month, 3 year, 5 year and 10 year plans for the program. I don't think I met another PD on the interview trail I'd rather have a beer with.

Guess I matched in my top 4.

Dartmouth only did not fill their IM/research scientist track according to the list on the IMG website

I know other specialty forums have posted the unfilled spots. Can someone please post the unfilled spots? Do we get the list after the match or not?

There is a link to a website listing all unmatched programs (for all specialties including IM) on the general residency forum. I feel uncomfortable posting the entire thing since technically it's against the rules, but if you really want to know you can look there.

I was most suprised that Denver and Wisconsin didn't fill their categorical spots. Wierd.....2 solid programs. Some lucky scramblers out there today.

Sorry man, hope they were not your number one! If so, it wasn't meant to be and you will end up somewhere better in the long run. Good luck! :luck:

Interesting that Baystate did not fill for categorical IM after their recruitment efforts and overseas interviews in Ireland. All the other New England programs did very well however; don't know why UVM hasn't filled the past 2 years as it is in a beautiful area. Not too surprised that UMASS filled again this year, as we interviewed way too many people to NOT fill.. We just opened our new, beautiful ED and online radiology at the main campus; FYI for anyone next year or anyone who ranked UMASS. :) that said, I am now off wards for the next month and to put it nicely, don't miss it. good luck on Thursday

Guess I matched in my top 4.

Hate to break it to you but you still could be one of the 22/23 that matched at your #5 choice.

Oh, no worries. I didn't even rank it. I loved the place but as I said before, my wife promised to divorce me if we ended up there. But I would have ranked their Research Pathway pretty highly if I was on my own.

Is the Wisconsin program that did not fill the one in Madison or the one in Milwaukee? (i don't know anything about either, i'm just curious)....

also, how does a program not filling help you determine anything about how far down your rank list you went? for example, lets say my #2 choice did not fill. its entirely possible that they did not rank me at all, in which case i could still have matched somewhere below 2.

My Home Hospital did terrible again this year. 12 spots 4 matched. Thats what happened last year too. No wonder they begged me to stay. I must have matched in my top 8 :)

97% of our grads match at top 3 so I guess I prob will be at one of those.

Technically this is true. However, I think this information is somewhat helpful. If you are a strong enough applicant to get the interview and didn't act like a ***** while there, I find it hard to imagine that a program, no matter what the caliber, would not rank you at all. Why take the chance of not filling and ending up with scramblers who may or may not really want to be there when you could match a solid student that you actually have met? It's no guarantee, since I'm sure there are those who don't get ranked at places, but I would venture that it's very rare and only because of a horrible interview experience.

The reason I personally am so sure I matched in my top 3 is that I believe there is basically no chance that Colorado didn't rank me. They called and told me they were "excited about my application," and why would they waste their time if they weren't even going to put me on their list? Now, if the program that hadn't filled was a place that had given me no feedback after the interview, I would be less certain (but I would still think I had a pretty decent chance of having matched there).

It's the Madison campus. And you're correct, it's entirely possible that a program w/ unfilled spots may not have ranked me. But I have rank-to-match emails from my #4 and 5 programs (5 being Madison) that include offers of fellowships (I'm applying to the Research Pathway) for '08. So I think it's safe for me to say that I matched in my top 5 and given my RTM from #4, I probably didn't rank lower than that.

But I may get a huge surprise tomorrow and should probably just chill the hell out until then.

BE

I'm relatively surprised by Colorado's match, but considering the flux going on in the program with a new PD, recent turnover in several departments, the new hospital etc. it is possible that it slipped just enough on some applicants' rank lists to leave those 2 categorical spots unfilled.
