Hey friends! I have been a part of this program for 3 years and it has been an absolutely invaluable experience for me and for my resume. The department is recruiting again, so I thought I would pass the info along!

The University of California, Irvine Department of Urology is recruiting students and recent graduates for available research internships effective immediately. This is an unpaid opportunity located in Orange, California. The number of students to be accepted is yet to be determined. All applicants seeking a career in medicine are encouraged to apply. Students that are not residents of Orange County, California will not be considered. Applicants do not need to attend UCI in order to qualify.

Throughout this internship, students work hand in hand with prominent urologists, are allowed operating room observation privileges, clinical patient interaction opportunities, and laboratory experience with both animal and cadaver models. In addition to this, students will extensively practice scientific writing skills by assisting in writing abstracts, protocols, and eventually manuscripts. Opportunities to publish to acclaimed journals and to present at national and local conferences are granted based on quality of work and time spent on projects. In light of COVID-19, safety precautions must be adhered to including daily screenings and the use of proper PPE, however, students are still admitted to hospital premises to conduct clinical research during this time.

There are two broad internship categories with available positions:

• Student Research Intern (BIO 199)
-Undergraduate credits may be applied to coursework
-12-16 hours per week required (weekdays only)

• Junior Research Specialist
-Bachelor of Science graduates only
-20 hours per week required (weekdays only)

To apply for this opportunity, students are required to provide an updated resume with references, transcripts (official or unofficial) and a current academic and commitment schedule. APPLICATIONS WITHOUT THESE DOCUMENTS WILL BE CONSIDERED INCOMPLETE AND CANNOT BE CONSIDERED FOR THE POSITION(S).
