Oh no, I'm so sorry to hear that! I've heard that you can call the admission dept and ask them to review your app with you so you know what your weak areas are, then you can spend the next year working on that. Also, you have a way better shot at getting in if you do ED! Don't despair, use this next year to make yourself even more ready for pharm school by taking upper level science classes (biochem, A&P, cell bio, etc.) and getting more pharmacy experience. Research experience is a huge plus too!

just a quick question. from the time your application is sent into uh and they are reviewing it. how long do they take to get back to you with a possible interview?

Thanks! Yeah...I was an ED applicant but was deferred to regular because my transcript arrived after the deadline( 1st attempt went missing) 🙁 I am going to make an appointment to see what I'm lacking and apply again as ED. Tbh I knew that I didn't do that well on my interview.. Got to practice more on that. Hopefully I can get into uhcop next year!

It took about 36 hours between the email saying they're reviewing my application and the email inviting me to interview.

I interviewed November 20th for regular decision and have received an acceptance dec 11. Hallelujah!

Received an e-mail yesterday saying I was "tabled"... Are my chances literally 50/50? 🤔

Had a question to any student that is at UHCOP. Why did you choose UHCOP? Also do you advise students to pick their choice based on who has the cheapest tuition or not? Thanks 😀

Main reason I chose UHCOP was definitely due to the money. I went to UH for undergrad because I got a scholarship and could live at home; my undergrad scholarship transferred to pharmacy school so it was the cheapest option by far. The second main reason was due to the affiliation with the TMC. Having the ability to do rotations in the Texas Medical Center is a great asset for our college, and since I am really interested in clinical pharmacy and residency, it was a clear choice for me. Honestly, go to the school that is cheapest for you. If you have the ability to live at home, then by all means do it. Nowadays, ranking of the college really isn't that important so any college near to you and that is cheap will be your best bet.

Thank you for your help! I think your right and it is also a big plus being close to the TMC to get really good rotations sites 😀

Does anyone know if UH puts emphasis on the courses that you take for pre-requisites?
I got a D in a course that was not required for the pharmacy school.
Due to issues with my schedule, I could not get out of the class before the drop deadline and avoid the blow to my GPA.
I tried calling UH numerous times today but nobody answered the phones all the day.
I'm assuming they're closed for the holiday break.
Any and all help from current students would be appreciated!
Thank you so much for advance! 🙂

i got in with a D in a non prereq class. i don't think you should worry about it too much if it's not a prereq, but they'd still like you to do well i'd assume

also depends on the class but if your gpa is within range (assuming) shouldn't be that bad

congrats to all who will be interviewing in the spring. I echo what everyone else said in that at U of H it wasn't too bad, and the group was definitely fun. The students during the meet and greet were super friendly.

for current P1 and P2's, what were your harder classes? I've heard that P2 is harder than P1, was just wondering what the dealiyo. Thanks.

P2 is definitely very notorious for being hard! 🙂 As far as P1 goes, so far, my personal hardest class was organ system life sciences (OSLS or organs). Now I feel like most of my class had a harder time with pharmaceutics, so it just kinda depends where your strengths are; OSLS I is essentially neurophysiology and pharmaceutics studies dosage forms and some simple physical pharmacy. P2 takes a lot of very hard, med-intensive classes: pharmacology, med chem, pharmacokinetics, etc. I've heard from upperclassmen that pharmacology is supposed to be the hardest class of the program, but again really depends on the person. Hope that helps!

Oh, wait a second. So osls is primarily neurophysiology? It seems like it would be an anatomy/physiology type course. (I ask b/c I didn't take this one). No other anatomy?

Also, on the website the U of H states that the new building will be built in the next year or so. Do you happen to have any idea of if this will be accessible to our year students? I know now that P3's and P4's go to the TMC for their classes. Will this change for class of 2019 or 20?

Thanks Romaniangirl you're the best!!!

Sorry! Let me clarify: OSLS 1 in the fall is neurophysiology. OSLS 2 in the spring has the other systems (cardiac, renal, respiratory, reproductive, etc.). OSLS 1 covers nerve physiology, muscle physiology, neuroanatomy, and sensory anatomy/physio. As far as the new building goes, I believe it's supposed to open in June/July of 2017. Once it's open, everyone (P1-P3) will be in the new building. So having said that, as long as everything goes on schedule, the class of 2019 and so forth will all be housed in the new building.

Correct! No classes on Fridays, but we did have to come on a Friday once or twice for a skills lab which are required.

Thanks! the more I find out about U of H, the more I want to go there....man it's gonna be a tough decision here. Am totally pumped, but classes do seem daunting but I guess that's w/every pharmD program. (I was no stranger to the C BABY!!!!!!!!!!).

Also, I'm assuming the PCAT of Houston is high in the sky.... so it seems competitive to get in just as well. Anyway good luck to all and keep our fingers crossed! Thanks again RG!

Haha the classes are tough for sure, but at UH, we are all a family and we help each other through it. Very few people actually fail or get held back in the program so as long as you put your best effort in, you are pretty much guaranteed to succeed! Are you considering other programs?

Yes, I'm a texas resident so I applied to pretty much all the texas schools, (TAMU, TTU, UT, UNT, TSU), feik is pretty expensive so I opted out, although people tell me it's good. Guess to some extent it depends on personality and where you'd fit in. I can definitely see that at Houston, the meet and greet and interviewers (I had a prof and resident), were nice. Houston does start the process earlier though, (I didn't do ED). i'm not from H-town so if I go there I'll have to get an apt. Cambridge oaks looks good but only has 1.5 stars (wtf?). This interview season definitely is tough, glad we only have to do it once!.

Yeah Cambridge Oaks is not a personal favorite haha. Calhoun is where most of the students stay, but it is the priciest option. It'll also be the closest to the new building, but to be honest, most of the students have an off campus apartment in the TMC, along with a couple of roommates.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all!
I got accepted exactly one month after the October interview day, and my stat is just above average according to the UHCOP record shown online. Good luck everybody!

To romaniangirl, thank you for coming back to help new students this year, i found your info is helpful. I'm planning to take some classes in Spring to prepare for pharmacy school, which classes would you recommend? (I have options of biochemistry, pathophysiology, physiology, cell biology, cell physiology).

To futurepharmacygal, i got my UH ID when I got accepted to UH main campus. I believe getting admission offer from any UH campus will give you on. The UHCOP has not mentioned about UH ID to me yet. I have no experience in applying on-campus housing.

To all future classmates class of 2020, how may I keep in touch with you? I don't have facebook, but will register if needed 🙂.

Thanks for reading!

Hey romanian girl you said a lot of pharmacy students live in TMC, any apartments over there that you recommend ?

Good luck to everyone that has an interview on January 11th! My time is around 12:00 pm. Looking forward to meeting you all!

What all do we have to bring to the interview? I believe its just our spring 2016 schedule but was there anything else they asked for? just making sure

If I am planning to take a non-science prerequisite in the summer, do I still need to bring my summer schedule to the interview? Because we need to do that for spring schedule but of course summer registrations are not open yet
Thanks!

Just received my acceptance after my proteins class! lol Also interviewed on the 11th! Congrats to everyone also! Also, does the UHCOP class of 2020 have a facebook yet?

Received my acceptance letter today!! SSOOOO excited! Interviewed on January 11!

If you don't mind could I ask you what your stats were?
Sure!
GPA: 3.3
PCAT: 91
Pharmacy experience in hospital and in retail, bioinformatics research, a ton of volunteer/extracurricular hours
🙂

So far only UNT & University of Colorado. Ended up declining Texas Tech/A&M interviews.. Just have UT this Saturday and I'm done
I have my interview this Saturday for UT too. It's in the morning

I got my acceptance yesterday!! Really happy about it but will probably decline I really want to go to UT.

My interview is in 2 days! Can anybody tell me if they try to put you on the spot to see how you react to such situations, or if they are friendly and just want to get to know you? Thanks!

My interview is also in two days! But from what I've been told is that they want to see how we interact with others.

They are really friendly they ask a mixture of questions. The basic questions and the situational example questions. Then you have a group activity where faculty and p4 students critique you
