University of Minnesota - Class of 2018

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Guess I am joining everyone on Oct. 25th! Hope to see all of you then.

Awesome! Are you from MN?

No I will be coming from California. Which campus did you choose?

When did you submit all of your application?

Initially in July for my first few schools, but decided to give UMinn a shot and surprisingly was given an interview.

9/13 - application sent to UMinn
9/20- supplemental application accepted.

I currently go to MN for undergrad in the Twin Cities, so that's where I picked! If you need any help getting a hotel/directions and such, feel free to let me know! This is my 4th year living on campus, so I know the ropes. 🙂

I will most definitely PM you if I have any questions. BTW congratulation on your University of Tennessee acceptance! It is a weight off your shoulders👍

I just got an interview invitation for Oct. 25th as well! It took almost 3 weeks exactly for me to hear back!

It took me over 3 weeks and I'm even an undergrad at the U of MN! I'll see you there! 🙂

And thanks! Being accepted somewhere is a huge relief, and TN and MN are my top choices, so I'm not even going to anymore interviews besides MN.

I understand the feeling. It feels nice to go into a big interview somewhat relaxed and MN is perhaps the last interview I go to if I am accepted. Good luck!

By the way, does anyone have the stats for 9/27 interviews (interviewees and admission projections)? Past threads had members that posted it up and was quite informative. Thanks ahead of time!

I got an interview invite for NOv. 15!!! I'm so excited. Can I ask you too about hotels and directions?

and....for the ones interviewing before me, please tell me how are the interviews going!

SAME!!! 😀

Congrats ^_^

Yeah! You guys can just PM me when it comes time to make travel plans for MN and I'll try to help the best I can! I'm about a 10-15 minute walk from the pharmacy school, so I just hope the weather is decent that day. 😛

I just got the invitation for the November 15 interview as well. I'm very excited.

Does the admission office send a confirmation email of your interview campus choice?

SAME!!! 😀

Congrats ^_^

You applied to a lot of schools haha, where is your top choice..? I applied to many schools last year and I was out of California, it was really expensive flying everywhere. Since you already got into Midwestern, how more interviews do you plan on doing besides the top schools like kentucky and minnesota? 👍

I feel your guys' pain too. Having options in the end will make up for it.....hopefully

I just got an interview invite for Nov 15! What campus is everyone going to interview at? I'm thinking Twin Cities...

I chose the twin cities! My interview is at Nov 15 too. I guess I'll see u there

for the people interviewing on 11/15, which hotel are ya'll staying at? all the hotels near/in Twin Cities is so expensive!

I was thinking of staying at the Marquette? It's ~$79/a night, or was thinking of Airbnb-ing it! But then you lose the privacy of a hotel room.

It's a bit far I believe, but if you rent a car, it should be fine? Not sure if it will be snowing then, so I might change my mind to something closer so I don't have to risk driving in the snow 🙁

How much are the ones recommended by the admissions?
I think they were called Commons hotel and daily inn or something like that

They are expensive! I believe Commons was around $200+ (250?) and then Days Inn was $150 per night.

But... I was researching hotels and (based on what someone mentioned before) I think the hotels in Downtown Minneapolis are so cheap atm because of the light rail construction that is going on? I'm not sure how big of an inconvenience that would be...

i ended up booking a stay downtown with the hilton garden inn. it still came out to $101/night. maybe they're trying to cash in with all the interviewees! 😛

I ended up booking a room at the Days Inn for roughly $100 and totally forgot to ask for the student discount -_-. Is the walk from Days Inn to Weaver-Densford Hall not too bad?

Days inn is pretty close. Maybe 15-20 min walk. But it could be snowing already by then do prepare to walk in the cold if you haven't done so already.

I'm interviewing on nov 15 and got a room at days inn on campus (supposedly 5 min walk from the pharmacy school bldg) for $69 a night! Call in and mention university student discount. I'm hoping the hotel runs a shuttle from and to airport...that'll save cab fee..

Looking forward to see y'all there!

Awesome! Thanks for letting us know!

If you all have any questions, feel free to ask me! I'm currently an Undergrad at the U of MN and live very close to campus. 🙂 If you want close, the commons hotel is literally a 2-3 minute walk to the pharmacy school. Otherwise, check out the Minneapolis bus system (metro transit). We have a HUGE bus system here, and tons of them stop at the campus since it's so huge. I'd recommend looking for a hotel along the bus lines. 🙂

What time are you interviewing on the 25th? I hope it is not too cold that day since I will be coming from my boring California weather🙂

Wow, interviews start on the 25th already? It's a difference from Cali, but it's not not getting too bad yet. I interviewed last year in march and it was at 10-20 degrees. Next week we're suppose to have snow showers.. I have no idea what that is, but I'll let you know when I experience it. It'll probably be like 40s as the high and low thirties as the low at night. It's just a little bit colder than the coldest days of Cali Winter. 👍

oh wow! that's great! thanks 😀

are you supershuttling to and from airport then?

Yes, please give me a heads up if it happens to snow. I will probably be walking to Weavers in my suit so hopefully the weather will permit that.

You'll be fine. I walked with my suit when it was like 15 or less degrees with my broken shoes.

Getting prepared for the Oct. 25 interview and getting a bit nervous. It's my first interview so what is everybody doing to prepare?

Hope to meet some of you interviewing that day too!

Practice typical pharmacy interview questions with friends or professors. It will give you a foundation that you can use to base off answers during the actual interview and it helped my first few interviews to go smoothly. It is also okay to have a few "umm" and "uhh" in your responses so do not stress over that. Schools know that you are normally nervous so just relax and nail the interview! Good luck 👍

Good luck with all your interviews guys!🙂
I am writing my supplemental essays, and I have a question.

In the first essay, can I write about my job experience? I wasnt sure because it says extracurricular, volunteer, leadership role, something like that. I think a job experience can be considered as extracurricular but I am kinda confused.

I'm also working on my supplemental for this school at the moment. Edit: I was proofreading my essays and realized what you meant. Work experience should be fine since you're elaborating on a contribution that you felt was meaningful.

Alright, thanks a bunch!

Hey guys,

I got an invitation for an interview on Nov 15 last Thursday. I send RSVP back the same day but I haven't got a confirmation back from them yet. I saw that one of you got the confirmation the next day....anyone has to wait longer than that?😕

Isn't everyone the same? My day is 11:30-4:30.

Hate to tell you but....it was SO COLD walking to class today. Bring your warmest jacket. 🙁

is it easier to get into minnesota if you choose "no preference" when selecting the campus location during interview day?

They say no, but I'm not sure if I buy it. I selected TC only last year cause I did not want to go to Duluth at all. Don't select No preference, unless you really mean it. They will put you in Duluth if they need to. They fill it "Proportionally" so the class evenly fills up. You are interviewing early, so if I were you, I would put TC, unless you truly don't mind going to Duluth. If they think you qualify, then you will be accepted even if you only put TC.

I read in a previous UMN thread that there were two-a-day sessions, but maybe that is later on in the application process or I could have mistaken it for something else. Yikes that is some cold weather then, thanks for the heads up.

By 8888888888, how are you liking the P1 year so far?
