University of New England Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Thank you! I'm just paranoid cause I've had interviews when there's about 4 people throwing questions at me and another one where you have a group discussion and you have to jump in there every chance you get. Those are so stressful! Okay, now I'm somewhat looking forward to this interview!

Yeah, the UNE interview was one-on-one, so you don't have to worry about any group interviews.

:soexcited:Just found out I got in to UNE. actually got 2 acceptance letters in one day. I interviewed on March 26th, I was quite nervous before the interview but the interviewers were quite laid back and just wanted to have a conversation. For those of y'all who have upcoming interviews my advice is for you to stay true to yourself. Make sure u make good eye contact with the interviewers. The common question they ask "Tell me about yourself", is very broad but try to answer tactfully. I may not have the best PCAT scores, or a 4.0 GPA like I see some people bragging on SDN, neither am I a Pharm tech, but have much experience in the health care world.

Congratulations to a fellow March 26 interview acceptance!

I'm much like you - I might not have the most stellar GPA or PCAT score, but I have a lot of pharmacy experience (which the interview people noted multiple times, so I knew they liked that). I maintained eye contact with them as the interview was conducted and I went over the 20-30 minute time limit (and I mentally gave myself a pat on the back for going overtime). Right after I left the interview, I knew they liked me because I answered all of their questions soundly and they said that I "knew a lot of the lingo."

But contrats to you again! Will you attend the school?

Congrats to all of you that have been accepted! I was also accepted 3 weeks ago and was very excited. This week, I recieved an acceptance letter from Shenandoah, and decided to decline with UNE, despite sending the deposit. After all of the horror stories that I've been reading about in the forums regarding schools without accreditation, I decided that it wasn't worth it. I don't mean to scare those of you that have no other choices, but if you have a choice of an accredited school I'd go with that, like I did. I always thought these schools will surely get accredited after first class graduates but have recently learned that there are a number of pharm school out there who've graduated a class and have not. Yikes! My friend's cousin graduated from one a year ago and it still has no sign of being accredited and he's NOT been able to get a job. This really really scared me. Anyhow I felt obliged to share my thoughts with you all. Whatever way you go good luck!

Really? What pharmacy schools? I am aware of some that are candidate status and graduates from those have the rights of a fully accreditated program and to be fully accreditated a school has to graduate a class yet your post is interesting. What horror stories? More information would be helpful. What school did your friend's cousin graduate from?

Well....I have heard that pharmacist jobs have become increasingly more difficult to get relative to the past few years, those that have graduated from non-accredited schools still awaiting accreditation, have been put at a disadvantage. Also, with jobs as hard to get as they are, the last thing you'd want to do is further that by going to a non-accredited school. I have heard this multiple times. I myself struggled with this for a while since most of the schools I applied to are not accredited, except for 2, one of which accepted me, luckily. The thing is, despite having "rights", an employer is not gonna hire you as a graduate of this type of school if the next guy has graduated from an accredited school. It seems unfair, but I guess it's true. As with all jobs, employers don't always tell you WHY they didn't hire you. If there are better choices, they'll go for them. And unfortunately in this case, the "better choice" appears to be the grad of the accredited schools. I'd like to tell you where my friend's cousin attended, but I'm not sure if he'd want me to sharing it :scared:, but I can tell you that the stats of the students are HIGH, and the school is known to be hard to get into.

There is not a pharmacy school in this country that was candidate status last year, graduated a class, and did NOT become fully accredited. Your post is full of heresay and wild accusations that you either cannot or are unwilling to back up. The rights I refer to are those that pass the Naplex from either candidate or fully accredited are the same. To those of you attending UNE, I would ignore this nonsense.

I am sorry if I've offended you. I can see that you're likely a UNE student, and therefore I can see how this information would be offensive towards you. The purposes of these forums are for Pre-Pharmacy students to exchange ideas and help one another, and I was unaware that current students would be involved in pre-pharmacy discussions. I am not lying and just passing along information that I've been given. By the way, that is not the only instance of me hearing of an unemployed Pharmacist. I have heard plenty more than that. In fact, just go to the Hannaford website and you'll notice that there is not a SINGLE opening for a Pharmacist in ANY store. I've been warned that things have changed with regards to the demand of Pharmacists, and not to add to it by attending a non-accredited school. Again, I am sorry if I've offended you or made you feel differently toward the school that you attend. THAT was not the intention.

The issue of accreditation doesn't bother me either way. My family runs an independent pharmacy so I can easily secure a job there should I graduate from UNE.

I am not a UNE student nor will ever be one. You could not offend me - I don't have any idea who you are. I just think you throw out quite a bit of opinion without any facts and you are not willing to back up what you say. There are many students on this forum who are applying to pre-candidate schools and may wonder where you get your information. Again, you have not given any details, names of schools, any information other than a website for a supermarket pharmacy? Retail is only a small part of the pharmacy job outlook. Back up your wild opinions!

I don't need to back anything up. I'm not trying to prove anything. I was just sharing my thoughts and AGAIN, reiterating information which I've heard countless times. You are clearly unfit to be a Pharmacist in any capacity. My attempts of being polite with you are clearly unnecessary.

Let me clarify something here. Yes, there has been an increase in new pharmacy schools recently and this might be a problem later on for future pharmacists looking for a job. However, the schools in Maine are an exception because there were no pharmacy schools to begin with until last year. There are currently a shortage of pharmacists in Maine especially in the rural areas. I think that HU and UNE will have absolutely no problem with achieving full accreditation. By the way, there's plenty of jobs for pharmacists not just retail. There's academics, hospital, clinical, research, nuclear pharmacy, pharmaceutical sales, etc. So don't worry about what anyone says. The increase in aging population (baby boomers) and the increase in healthcare demand due to the new healthcare reform will increase the demand for more pharmacists to fill these needs.

I was among one of those people who received an interview this year but have been accepted somewhere else so I have declined my interview. Hope this will open a spot for those who are waiting for an interview. GL!! 🙂

This is very promising, RXGIRL. I hope what cAMP has brought up doesn't have alot of truth to it because I'll be attending UNE this Fall and am very happy about it. :zip:

cAMP- If I gave you a dollar, would you promise to use it to buy a flipping clue?

Gotta say anyone that makes an ignorant remark like that is tryin to stir things up. No doubt that UNE won't have any problems to becoming fully accredited!

hey guys, for those of you who got accepted already, did you guys get the result by email? or snail mail? 🙂 i'm anxiously waiting :xf::xf:

I got mine by regular mail. I interviewed on March 26 and got the letter on April 7 (the letter itself was dated April 2).

I'm a P1 at UNE looking for a new roommate(s) for next year. Just please be a clean person(s), my current roommates are total slobs, and it really irrates the s*** out of me.

I interviewed on April 9th and just received my acceptance packet!! I am super excited! I had such a good experience throughout the whole admission process with UNE and was highly impressed with the campus and the staff during the interview. Im so greatful that I would be part of the class of 2014! Yay! 😍

Hey..No i haven't..and now i am very worried 🙁 because I heard some1 from the group of april 16th has already received acceptance letter last week ! it will be appreciated if anyone from the group of April 16th let me know if you have received anything so far..

I interviewed April 16th and received an acceptance letter on April 26, and it was sent April 23.

Then a few days later, I received a letter stating I was going to receive a scholarship for my academic achievement. This is the weird part, because my GPA is probably on the lower end of their average, so that seems sketchy. Has anyone else received a scholarship from UNE? Please let me know. Thanks!
