For the current USN COP students, and invited/already-interviewed applicants; how long did any of you had to wait before you were invited for an interview, after your application(s) was sent out/received? Thanks...

I received my invitation email reponse 1 week after i sent it. I was surprised of how quickly Dr. Deyoung reponsed.

Wow, 1 week is pretty fast. Do you mind telling me your stats? So I'd know when to stalk my email the most.

And does the 1 week apply to rejections too? That is, if you happen to have any idea at all.

I got the e-mail saying my application was received on 10/23, received the interview invite 11/7

My stats:
Recent overall GPA: 4.0
Recent prereg: 4.0
No PCAT
1 year retail pharm. experience

I still have 3 courses to complete by next summer, and I believe it would not be 4.0 because I think I'll get a B in Microbio. this semester. So the GPA range will be about 3.8-3.9.

I think for USN, as long as they see that you'll complete all prereg. by Fall, USN will send you invitation for interview, though I don't know the time range. I guess it depends on how quickly they mail/email it. The interview is pretty much one of the most important parts which will determine whether or not you get accepted.

Also, for those who got accepted to USN:

How did you answer the question: Why did you choose USN?

I almost have the same stats as u do, my science pre-reqs GPA is 4.0 and my overall is 3.63 and I do have 3 pre-reqs to go, they will be done in few days, but I have not heard from them 🙁. Do you think it is a rejection. And if it is, Will they explain to me why I been rejected?.....maybe because in my early semesters in college I had like 3 W'z and F, but I was young at that time and I didnt know what I wanted to do in my life...I was like lost, but now I do know what I really want, I even took that class I had a F on with the same professor and got an A. I was going threw hard times in my life, I then made all Az and few Bz. do u think this will be the reason of my rejection?

I wouldn't freak out just yet. The deadline for admissions is today. Maybe they are waiting to see how you compare to the other applicants. I wouldn't worry about a rejection unless you get an actual rejection. There is still plenty of time for the school to invite you.

I concur with Nimitz, it was great meeting most of you who interviewed today. I am definitely looking forward to meeting all of you in your p1 year. So don't be strangers to us 🙂As for those who haven't interviewed you, definitely take advantage of the p1's who are circulating among you (like me and Nimitz). Feel free to ask us any question you want while you wait for your interview. Remember we were in your shoes last year, so we know exactly how you feel. Anyways, congratulations on those who interviewed today, the hard part is over, now the wait begins 🙂

Can I ask you about demographics in your class? I turn 40 next year. If I get in, am I going to be the old lady of the class or are there older people than me?

Also I have a question about the block system? Is it harder to retain the information long term than taking courses the traditional semester way? I think I will like the block system but I am kind of worried about the info going out of my head once I have finished the exam.

On the application there is a part where you will request how would you like USN to notice your status. I remember it had email, mail, phone, or something like that. I put contact me by email because I thought it would save appro. 7 business day of mailing so I would receive the notice more quickly. I would take this fact into consideration and won't be panic yet. Did you pick contact by mail or email?

they range from 20 year olds to 50+ year olds, so you won't be the oldest. Either way, age is nothing but a number, it really will depend on how you interact with your peers, and how much you are willing to participate with the different organizations that are seen on campus.

As for the block system, you tend to forget most of the info, but alot of the pertinent information will be retained because there is a common theme with the majority of the blocks. I like the block system, but it doesn't make pharmacy school any easier.

mrblah I have a question about USN. Since you're attending there, do you know if USN locates near any medical center or something. I just want to know how convenient is it for p3-p4 to do rotation. Thank you

I heard from someone that you can do your rotation(s) at any location you choose, as long as it is approved. Still not sure how valid or true that is.

I would like you to confirm that too, mrblah, if you don't mind 🙂

Thanks Electrode, I know that you can do rotation out of state but I would like to know more info. about the locations of USN. Because if it is near or in a medical center, rotations will be much easier.

there are alot of full fledge hospitals in vegas, and clinical rotations start p3 year. I dont see a problem getting clinical rotations.

Electrode: You cant pick your p1/p2 rotations during the school year, but you can pick your summer and your p3 rotations. During the summer, you can go where ever you want in the country provided you were approved for the intern license in that specific state.

Rxfanatic: not even close, interviews just started, so there are many more interview dates available.

GL, its time for me to go hit up LV's chinatown......

are they done sending out interview invites?

The applications were supposed to be postmarked by Dec. 8th. Some are still in the mail. They can't be done yet if they haven't even received all the applications.

Do you happen to know the name of any near by medical center in Henderson or those fledge hospitals? Thanks much

I'm pretty sure Dr. Deyoung personally calls everybody who gets accepted.

@RXFanatic: Today is Dec 11, I would wait at least til next Mon, then give them a call. You know how mailing works, there might be a delay.

Congrats to those who got interview invites as well as those who will. I will be interviewing the latter interview dates 1 on Feb and 1 on Mar. I hear from Dr DeYoung that this years applicants is a new record over 1600 so processing time will be a little slower and of course, that means more competition. I will be happy to answer any questions of any sort.

happy holidays from myself and the current P1 class to all those that have applied. I wish you guys the best of luck and hope to see you guys at the interviews.

Hey Future USN students,

Again, best of luck to those who had their interview already and also, to those who are waiting to be called for an interview. The process is indeed very painful but you guys must have patience. We did receive an email from Dr.DeYoung saying that there are a lot of applicants this year so it does take a little bit longer for them to process the paperwork. If you guys haven't heard anything, it doesn't mean that you guys are rejected. The application deadline has just ended and interviews will go until March or April so there's still plenty of chances for everyone. 🙂

Happy Holidays to all and I hope to see you guys at the South Jordan campus if you guys are attending the interview there. 😍 Best of Luck!

Hey Gang, I'm new to the group but wanted to add my 2 cents. I received an invitation to interview in January. I'm as nervous as anybody, but I try to view it as an opportunity to honestly talk about myself, since this is what they want to know...you the person. They are not only interviewing you, but you are interviewing them as well. Try not not to feel as if it's only a one way street on the interview. You can ask them difficult questions just as well and this will only help your interview, because it lets them know you've done your homework on the school. Good luck to all of those who have gotten interviews and for of you that haven't, never give up hope!

Why does the sound of 1600 applications look so depressing? Looks like I'm doomed already.

One question: so, if 1200 of those applicants happen to have a 4.0 GPA, does that mean our little group of 3.7's will be getting sympathy cards for christmas?

no~ just do well on your interview... i've heard of people who had perfect gpa's but didn't make it cuz they did bad with their interviews~ i had a 3.6-3.7 gpa and got in... so have hope and be optimistic!

Got interview invitation from Dr DeYoung. He mentioned Utah campus interview starting in Feb and March. I chose Henderson. Everybody knows how cold it is in Vegas in January?

Right now its really cold in vegas, so dress warmly if you are out n about in vegas/henderson, but it should be nice and toasty on campus.

What is the average temp. over there around Jan mrblah?

Well we got snow in some parts about 2 days ago... But that's not typical. It'll probably be in the mid 40's to mid 50's in January. But like Mr Blah said, campus will be warm - it's all indoors. As will any casino or hotel you're staying in. Just bring a jacket and you'll be fine. Good luck everyone!

I got an invitation for interview today. I chose Henderson campus on feb.3. Does anyone know the school has a transportation services from airport to the school ?? And which airport is the closet to the Henderson campus?
thanks!!

mccaran (sp) airport is the closest airport, and there is no transportation services to and from campus, although the airport is pretty close to campus.

Hi , I am scheduled for an interview for USN on Jan 20, 2009. I am really scared about the type of questions I might be asked. Any suggestions ..?
my overall gpa is 3.7
my science and math pre-requisite gpa is 4.0
I have a BS
Also I was in nursing school for less than month but i dropped out because I really really REALLY want to do pharmacy. Does that withdrawal from the program looks bad although I was in it for only 3 weeks..?..Also ..I volunteer in a hospital pharmacy as a pharmacy technician..., is that sufficient..experience? My brother who just graduated from pharmacy school says its enough experience..!! I would really appreciate some advice on the matter...!!
THANK YOU..!!

I live in San Jose. I plan to live in Boulder Station because it's in the list Dr DeYoung recommended, and it's not very expensive. I intend to book the whole package, flight two-way, hotel 1 night and car rent for less than 200. Wanna to stay in the same hotel w/ me?

Have USC invited you for an interview yet?

Scoobu, the main point of the interview is to get an idea about you and the type of person you are - leadership skills/ideas, problem solving, team work, why you want to be a pharmacist, etc. Just relax and be yourself in the interview and you'll be fine. The key is whether you can communicate well and get your point across. I don't think that the nursing issue would be a problem, I would just explain why you dropped out and why you want to go into pharmacy. I started a master's program that I didn't finish and I don't even think that they asked about it - I still made it in 🙂
Plus I think that the hospital tech experience is great - most of us had no experience at all. Good Luck! 🙂

I checked the rate for all the hotels that Dr. Deyoung emailed, I would say those of you, who are still looking for a place to stay, should book a package flight+hotel at cheaptickets.com website. They have great rate and great locations. Also, I think you'll be more satisfied with the rate as well as the quality. Ex: Luxor

D. MBA Program?..can you really get both degrees in a span of three years..?..If not, do u know anybody doing it and how is it working out for them?...
thanks for all the help...🙂..!

Can you estimate for me the exact time the meeting will end because the last flight is at 7.25 pm? I don't want to skip my morning class on wed.

it should end by then, but you should let Dr. D know so he can move your interview up.
