Has anybody been accepted out of state? I'm curious to see if the PSAR 99%instate statistic holds true.

I was accepted, and I'm an out of state resident even though I've been at UT for 3 years; I'm not really sure what the technicalities are. I've always heard that UT accepts 90% instate and 10% out of state so I was pretty worried about my chances, especially after looking at the previous years' stats where they've only accepted about 6-8 people from out of state.

My stats:
GPA: 3.7
PCAT:92% composite
Pharm experience: Worked as a pharm tech for a year back in high school
Volunteer: Minimal hours- ie ~50 throughout college
Misc: Worked as an Undergrad teaching assistant for two semesters, dabbled in a little research in my freshman year, and preceptor for a semester.

To put those of you waiting slightly more at ease, the acceptance email requested that we unofficially declare our intent before next Monday. I'm thinking that they're trying to see how many rejections they will get so they can accept more students!

Yeah, it's kinda smart on their part from a "how many more meetings to plan" standpoint. And both schools I was accepted to gave me pretty short notice to pay my deposits as well, so it's nothing unusual. Thanks to those who kindly gave up their spots though and good luck wherever you choose to attend!

Are we supposed to get a response back to our emails that we're accepting the seat? I just want to make sure they got my email.

Accepted! Whooooooo!!!

After reading this thread I was expecting (well... more hoping for) an email tomorrow sometime. I was caught off guard when I got the email this afternoon! I was sitting in lab when I got the email this afternoon, and I just stared at my phone, then handed it to my lab partner. ...Maybe shouted a little bit, then left lab right before it started to call my mom.

I plan to attend I think...

As for stats:
Graduating in May with BS Biochemistry
GPA - 3.58 (well... that's at Baylor where we have B+'s...) so more like a 3.3 to UT without the plus grades
PCAT - 87
A little over one year working in retail pharmacy
2 semesters volunteering at the pharmacy on campus

Side note: It's sad to lose a non-refundable seat deposit to another school since that acceptance (and reply deadline) was sent out so much earlier... and I already joined a facebook group for a different school... awkward.

Also... this is just an afterthought... I probably shouldn't have picked a username that gives away where I go... or maybe which applicant I am if adcom's look through these... And now that my other school info is out there I feel like others from my school may know who I am.
...so... Hey. Ehhhh.... sic'em bears.

WHO ARE YOU!!! I'm a BAYLOR BEAR!!! hahahaha c/o 2011 tooooo! but, UT is not my number 1 choice, so I will not be your future classmate lol....

Maybe she's on spring break?
She didn't reply to me, either.

Has anyone who got accepted had their status change..? Mine is still the same even though I got an acceptance email. That's normal, right?

Mine changed to Congratulations! You have been admitted, etc etc.

Ann Spencer is out of the office all week, returning on Monday (to save some of you calls through the rest of the week).

Mine changed a lot. It says I'm accepted, and it has links for me to change my password, pay my fee etc.

Hey SuperBean! Congrats! Yes, after I received my email my status did change on UT EID. Be sure to look out for it because the change allows you to access all of the links to pay the deposit, set up orientation, apply for housing, etc.

Congrats!!

Well, congrats! and thanks..haha...so which school did you choose over UT!

UH. Ultimately it came down to several things:
1) Family
2) I work for a hospital in Houston
3) I'm really tired of moving as I've moved every year for the past 10 years. Not knowing where I'm going the 4th year for rotations and knowing I need to move AGAIN just do not sit well with me.

Well, I already go to UT, so maybe that's why the status isn't changing? That link doesn't apply to people who are already currently enrolled...Then how do I access orientation info?

It's possible, mine hasn't changed either.

Mine keeps throwing me off because it says "Congratulations!" and then I go 😱 but then read on to "You've been admitted to the College of Natural Sciences."

They haven't changed that tricky bullcrap? Ya back in March 2007 I saw that, teared up and e-mailed Wilcox to confirm only to realize that they hadn't gotten to my pharmacy application yet.....luckily he e-mailed me personally saying I was in the next day even before Spencer sent me an acceptance e-mail or letter. You guys all seem like great applicants and I truly hope you all get in.

Now...to those of you that got in already......CONGRATS!!!! CELEBRATE EVERY SINGLE DAY until school starts....then get ready to have even more fun despite having a sorta stacked courseload. BTW START PREPARING TO JOIN PDC NOW because let's face it you're going to if you're awesome

Maybe the orientation is just for new UT students. I'd wait until you get your letter of acceptance, I bet it will tell you what you need to do. From what I can tell, the orientations that it linked me to isn't just for pharmacy students. I'm going to wait until I get my letter before I sign up, just in case there is something specific for pharmacy students.

My brother said his UT orientation was really fun.. I tferred in so idk. If you want to meet some new ppl, like if your from out of state maybe, I'd say go for it. Couldn't hurt

So does anyone know if the adcom met this week at all or will it be next week?

I e-mailed Dr. Wilcox earlier this week, they are reviewing applications again on the 23rd.

Haha nope! I just decided to stop checking that page until I hear something via email.

I always assumed the orientation would be one for just pharmacy students. It'd be cool for non-UT alums to experience the regular UT orientation though. I had a blast at mine!

I was an Orientation Advisor for UT back in the day and it definitely is a blast. You learn about the different traditions, songs, history of the school, etc. I have no idea if the Pharmacy student orientation is different but if you get a chance to go on the Moonlight Prowl, definitely go. It's free and you learn about the crazy stories of UT's past - Southwest conference champs in streaking, engineering vs. law rivalry, the REAL story of how Bevo got his name, the first UT mascot, and so much more. Conducting the Moonlight Prowl was easily my favorite activity.

It's been awhile since I've logged on to here. Congratulations to everyone who has been accepted!! I'm still anxiously awaiting some good news like the rest of you hopefuls! I wish everyone the best of luck, and hopefully I'll be seeing some of you in the fall!

As for the comments about orientation, I agree that I had a blast at mine several summers ago! Loads of fun, and you meet SO many people! I'm not sure how it works for pharmacy students, though.

Do we need to take physics and physics lab? or is one year of hs physics enough?

I believe the requirement is for 3hrs of college physics with no lab requirement. Check the website

Edit: Nvm, I was thinking of UH

I created a facebook group. It is titled:

UTexas-COP Class of 2015

I tried to make it just click and you can add yourself into it. So go ahead and add yourself!

I can't find the group. Can you post the link?

Where do we pay the deposit fee? On What I Owe?

Hello UT Pharmacy hopefuls, and future students! I have been looking at these forums for quite some time, but here is my first post.

I was wondering if anyone could put me at ease about my stats, as I have not heard back from any of the three schools I have interviewed at in Texas. (UT, A&M, or Texas Tech)

Degree:
Graduating May 2011 - B.S. in Biology
PCAT : 86 Percentile (Composite)
Pharmacy Exp: Less than 2 months in Retail; shadowed a Clinical Pharm.
GPA: 3.42 Cumulative (Pharmacy G.P.A. is close, may be somewhat lower)
Volunteer hours: Close to 40 with LPPA, and some outside hours.

I'm thinking my G.P.A is the only thing that may be hurting me. As well as my fairly limited Pharmacy experience. But in any case, can someone that has gotten into U.T. put me at ease?

And thanks to wmw and all the other regulars on here that have given us thread-goers a lot of great info.

Your numbers are really similar to mine (I have a 3.48 GPA and 85 PCAT.) I have almost 2 years experience in retail pharmacy and about the same number of volunteer hours, but you have a degree which looks better.

More and more I'm beginning to think that this may be less of a numbers game than I thought.

How did your interviews go?

One concrete thing I've gathered about UTCOP admission from hearing Wilcox talk is that they value volunteering heavily; that and pharm experience. If your number stats aren't so hot but you stack way up with volunteering hours and experience you have a great shot. I don't think your GPA or PCAT are holding you back at all, both seem more or less right on target to me, especially your PCAT score. Your GPA doesn't jump off the page but it shouldn't pull you down in any way. I know I didn't have crazy volunteer hours (not even sure how many total hours, but I did have pharm-related volunteering + some tutoring), but maybe my 'number stats' made up for that somewhat. I would say you are weaker in the volunteer/experience areas than anywhere else, but even then you aren't in bad shape IMO. If you had a good interview I wouldn't worry.

Thanks for the reply. Have you been accepted anywhere yet?

My interviews went pretty well, aside from the usual nervousness/anxiety that goes along with them. I usually had some concrete example to bring up in each interview question; and I had been doing some mock interviews around the time of my pharmacy interviews. For UT's interview, there was only one question that I decided not to answer because I didn't believe I had an adequate response for it. Besides that, I would say my responses were pretty strong for the rest of the questions.

The only downside would be that my first interview was with UT; and it was pretty early. So I only had time to go up from there, as I interviewed at Tech and Kingsville. But I hope the adCOM takes that into account (that the second round of interview candidates would be stronger/ more prepared).

Hopefully I'm just being neurotic, and I'll hear good things after March 23rd. Good luck to everyone else as well! And Hook'em!

Thanks wmw. Yeah, like I said, hopefully I'm just being neurotic. I know that UT really likes pharmacy experience, but I'm glad that I have a decent amount of volunteer hours to show.

I honestly feel like I should have gotten my CPhT license a few years ago. But I can't start second guessing myself now.

After looking at your pharmapplicants.com page, and reading this, I can see why you got accepted to UT. Props to you on all of your pharmacy experience, PCAT score, GPA, etc.

I think if I started my college career on a pre-pharmacy career path, then I would have some more experience to talk about.

Kudos to all the future Pharmacy school Longhorns.

thanks man. I really geared my stuff toward UTexas-COP as soon as I decided on pharmacy. I started undergrad as pre-dental, then switched to pre-med, then decided on pharmacy coming into junior year so its never too late if you know what you want! haha

wmw just curious what made you dislike dentistry and medicine?

I turned to pharmacy partly bc my dad is an independent pharmacist and i got influenced by him. my dad then recommended to work as a pharm tech just to be safe and thats how the rest of my pharm career started

Hi guys - I've been a lurker on this forum for quite some time now and decided this should be my first post 😛

Anyways...come March 23 when they do their next rounds of applicants review, are they only reviewing the other half of the applicant pool that they didn't do past two weeks or are they reviewing everyone including those from last time that didn't get in? Thanks if you know 🙂

And congrats to all those who got in! 🙂

From what I was told, during the last round of reviews, they had only reviewed a limited amount of applications so it stands to reason that they are probably reviewing the ones that they initially couldn't get to.
