University of Texas Application Thread

Ace...don't give up. Stay positive!! Yes more emails are going out but I'am not sure they are going out tomorrow. Maybe next week.'

Remember, not only is there a second round coming, there will be some people that will turn down UT, and spots will open up later in the year.

Don't be discouraged, and Good luck to you!!

Thanks man its just I havent had a good luck with any Texas schools....Somebody mentioned that the first round was divided into partial acceptance...Some going on Friday night and some going on Tuesday..So I am not sure that if the acceptances that went out today were the Friday ones and that we can expect some tomorrow.....

I really hope there are more emails going out...my heart sunk when i read that emails went out today...

did anyone's status on the UT page change or did you all just get an email???

I spoke with someone today from the admissions committee. She told me that during the meeting last wednesday, they didn't get through many of the applicants. They start out with the 4.0 GPAs with high PCATS and/or awesome interviews and kind of work their way down so there won't be many letters sent out today or tomorrow 🙁

The next meeting is next wednesday and if they still don't get through all of the applications then, they'll hold another meeting hopefully the same week.

It kinda sucks that those of us who don't get letters this week will have to wait but I guess it's nice to know so I can stop checking my email every 10 minutes. lol.

Congratulations to everyone who got letters today!!

I really want UT as well. Lucky for me I'm done with interviews so I can relax just a little bit. I know that my stats are not as high as some of the others but I can't stop checking email when I get the chance here at work. It's become like a drug today haha. I can't concentrate. Good thing we're not real busy at the moment...

I got my acceptance e-mail today, but I was wondering if anyone had a link to the cost of attending. Tuition, fees, the works. I found the tuition page, but that's just a fraction of the actual cost. I'd like to be able to give my mom a solid figure. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Congrats to everyone else who got in!

My stats for those who are curious:
GPA- 3.5
PCAT- 85
Pharm Tech certified 1.5 years experience.

To all who have been accepted today, could you post your stats?

I know yall have probably posted these many times but it would be nice to get an idea if the information I was given was accurate about only those with high GPAs getting letters this week. Thanks 😀

OMG, I got received an email from Mrs. Spencer with an acceptance letter as well! It's so much to take in that I'm still can't believe that it's happening yet.

Congratulations to everyone that received some good news today! See you guys this August! 😍

To everyone else that is still waiting, do not give up hope yet! They have only sent out a fraction of the 125 seats they have available so there are still a lot of seats up for grabs. I honestly don't think they start off necessarily with people that have high GPA's and PCAT's because it is all relative based on your Z-score that Dr. Wilcox assigns. So, if you got an interview, then you still have a good chance. My stats are most definitely below average so don't give up based on those factors alone. Good luck! 🙂

Congratulations! I guess the info I got wasn't 100% accurate. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

My stats were::

GPA: 3.86
PCAT: 83 (But my chem and verbal subscore were below 70)
Experience: I had a ton of leadership...Tutor, FIG mentor, Orch Pres, Tennis captain, etc...I just got hired in a Pharmacy a month ago, and only had mostly volunteer experience at Brack.

Hey for those who asked, my stats are as follows:

-GPA: 3.6 (160 hours w/ B.S.Nutritional Sciences)
-PCAT: 99%ile comp. ( no scores below 88%)
-Research w/2pubs (UTCOP-pharm/tox cancer research, TCU-Nutr. dept. research)
CPhT w/ shadowing/volunteer exp. in 7 diff. pharmacy environments over span of 2.5 years
4 good rec letters (4 b/c I submitted an 'addendum' to my application directly to Wilcox w/ a personal letter, a full length CV resume, my artist resume (paint/sculpture) resume, and an additional rec. letter)
4 years tutoring in gen/ochem

thats pretty much the high points of my app package I guess

Would you mind letting me in on your stats?

Also, does anyone know how many emails were sent out today?

To those who are accepted, which day did you interview?

I had the first slot on the first day. But I don't think the date has an influence on anything... Is anybody accepted on here planning to attend?

Texas was my first choice. It'd be cheaper to live in Abilene, but UT has such an awesome program. It's hard to say no.

Has anyone made a UTCOP Class of 2015 facebook page yet? 😛 I want to see who else was accepted... 😎

UT was originally my first choice but I'm having a tough time committing to attending. The reason it appeals to me mainly is bc it's cheap, convenient and practical... but honestly, since all my interviewing I'm much more interested in another program. I'm just not sure what to do. I have until the end of summer to decide but it's just such a tough choice. Is a school I like more worth more money to me or not? Does it matter? I don't know. Not yet anyway. I am glad about to not have to worry about getting accepted or not or w/e.. That is a nice feeling at least; perhaps having less stress will help me decide. Anybody else in a similar situation?

How funny, Tech was my first choice because it's cheap, convenient and practical for me. Honestly, I'm choosing UT because of the community and the standing of the school. I'd rather live in Austin for 4 years than Abilene. That may seem like a shallow reason, but I think it's important. There aren't any schools in Texas that can beat UT's numbers, either, which is nice. My suggestion is to physically write out the pro's and con's of each school. It may seem silly, but I think it'll help a lot.

I got in!!!! I was on a windy road with barely any signal but I got enough signal for my friend to call and tell me I got on. My dad had to pull over so I could jump for joy =D

Congratulations Aayame! Yeah, I definitely know what you mean. I was sitting with my mom at a McDonalds waiting for my car state inspection to finish. I didn't expect anything as they said letters would not come out till Tuesday.

I got accepted too.

My stats are:

3rd Year @ UT
GPA: 3.72
PCAT: 92
Experience: 1 summer of volunteering as a pharmacy technician at an indigent clinic and family clinic pharmacy. 2+ semesters of volunteering in a hospital pharmacy
1 strong LOR from my boss (non-pharmacy related) and 1 LOR from a pharmacist

Does anybody know if they're sending out offers tomorrow (Tuesday 03/14)?? I didn't get an email today 🙁 But on the plus side, I got in the other two pharm schools I applied at.

i really hope so...im in the same boat! accepted to the other two schools i applied to but i was really hoping to hear back from UT this week since its my #1

how much i have to bribe so i can take your spot at UT. haha jk
ic u have colorado on your list, cant go wrong with denver if you like outdoor stuff, its like the snowboarding capital of the world (though southern germany and utah might have a say in that). u honestly cant go wrong with either school, colorado might be a little bit cheaper (but not by much since their in-state residency requirements are pretty easy). wish the best in your decision

Southern Germany and Utah don't have Vail.

Haha well ucdenver is $40k more so if you got $40k then we got a deal haha 🙂

damn might as well hope purdue gives me an offer then haha

I got this from the UC-Boulder law website (sort of off topic but it applies to everyone in colo)

"Nonresident students may establish Colorado residency by maintaining a legal residence in Colorado for 12 consecutive months. Once they have established Colorado residency, they qualify for the lower resident tuition rates, except for LLM students."

http://www.colorado.edu/law/admissions/tuition.htm

i think UC-denver first yr for out-state is 34-35k, then the yr after it is 18k (estimate), doing some quick math, tuition for all 4 years is 86k. pretty good deal imo

my ex-ugrad school that has a pharm school is like 180k for tuition alone, in a class of 185, not worth it

btw im not trying to sway u from UT-austin to denver since i might be on the reject list in the first place. but just trying to show how u can save a little more money. a pharmacist in debt is a still a pharmacist taking a job out there, so might as well let u be debt free (if that term ever exists)

to make sure, call the UC-denver residency office and ask on a scale of 1 to 10 how hard it is to get in-state residency

when i called purdue they said a 10, meaning it is impossible, but i guess thats the pursuit to the Pharm.D

My gpa was a paltry 3.0, but my PCAT was a 91.

Thank God! My GPA is the only thing that I think can really hurt me, but maybe they can slide 5 hundredths of a point lower to take me too!

Next round y'all! It's the cooler round anyway. 😛

I had a 3.4 GPA at a community college and an 86 PCAT - so don't lose hope yet!

Is there a facebook page yet?

your PCAT is above average, plus you are more well balanced on the academic side than I am (3.62 GPA, 45 PCAT:scared:)

I have minimal experience - that's why I was so surprised any response from them.
but that shows you can get in without being strong in everything

Seeing as how they said they didn't get many applicants reviewed last Wednesday, they most likely still have over half the class to fill yet; they could have 100 spots remaining for all we know, so I wouldn't worry if you haven't heard anything as of today. For all of us that have been accepted, none of us knew we were getting in, or even would get interviews for that matter, we all had doubts, especially me. Do not worry at this point.

I got in as well! 😀
I'm a bit late to the party though; spent the whole day unwinding from the stress of it all.

Stats:
3.6 cGPA (3.3/3.4 sGPA)
98 PCAT

Congrats to you and everyone else accepted!

No email for me but keeping my fingers crossed!:xf:

I don't mean to sound rude, but how did you find out they didn't get many done last week?

Accepted! Whooooooo!!!

After reading this thread I was expecting (well... more hoping for) an email tomorrow sometime. I was caught off guard when I got the email this afternoon! I was sitting in lab when I got the email this afternoon, and I just stared at my phone, then handed it to my lab partner. ...Maybe shouted a little bit, then left lab right before it started to call my mom.

I plan to attend I think...

As for stats:
Graduating in May with BS Biochemistry
GPA - 3.58 (well... that's at Baylor where we have B+'s...) so more like a 3.3 to UT without the plus grades
PCAT - 87
A little over one year working in retail pharmacy
2 semesters volunteering at the pharmacy on campus

Side note: It's sad to lose a non-refundable seat deposit to another school since that acceptance (and reply deadline) was sent out so much earlier... and I already joined a facebook group for a different school... awkward.

Also... this is just an afterthought... I probably shouldn't have picked a username that gives away where I go... or maybe which applicant I am if adcom's look through these... And now that my other school info is out there I feel like others from my school may know who I am.
...so... Hey. Ehhhh.... sic'em bears.

don't lose hope yet guys, I know at least a handful of people who will be declining their offers (myself included) for texas tech...so that means more slots for you guys ;😀

I didn't have stellar stats either and my interview didn't go that well (in my opinion).

cGPA: 3.17
sGPA: ~3.2
PCAT: 80

3 strong LORs (2 pharmacists, 1 professor) & awesome essays
1.5 yrs experience (with 1 of those years as lead tech) at a retail pharmacy

graduated in 2006 with BS in biology. Hopefully my open seat will help one of ya'll 🙂

Typical SDN member... 3.5+ GPA, 90+ PCAT, experience, and yet "OMG guys I'm not sure I'll get an interview! Please reassure me!" It's good to be humble and all, but seriously?

Do you have BS/BA degree already? And how was your pharmacy experience?

BS and just a little pharm experience

Thank God! My GPA is the only thing that I think can really hurt me, but maybe they can slide 5 hundredths of a point lower to take me too!

laura i rounded up my gpa, so yours is probably higher than mine.

there is always hope! Hang in there you guys! I was seriously thinking that i was not going to get in but it must have been the interview or something that put me in. I was pretty confident about my letters too, every boss I've worked for <3 me.
