Hi guys, as far as "EXTRA CURRICULARS" go, do you know if they are looking for something specifically involving something at our school (like clubs, sororities, etc)? Or could an extra curricular be something that has nothing to do with college? UofP has specific blocks for VOLUNTEER and for EXTRA CURRICULAR activity, and I'm just wondering if I could put some of the stuff I've done on my own time without pay into the extra curricular section, since I have never been able to get involved with clubs due to work conflicts. I just dont want to have that field completely blank 🙁

I think extra-curricular activities have some kind of affiliation with a club or something like that. All the non paid activities I would put under Volunteer if there are no club involvement or affiliation.

Are you supposed to print copies of the course descriptions if UoP does not have an articulation agreement with your school?

So far what I have done is just notified Mrs. Semler that two of my courses arent on the articulation agreement, and she said to just leave them blank for now on the supp. app and she will look into it. I just emailed her the course descriptions.

For the CPhT License, did you just send it in a regular envelope, or like a manilla envelope? LOL I know silly question....

I am attaching mine to the application so that way they won't lose it.

Yea I went the paper route. The online thing was just too complicated. I have not submitted anything yet. But I am pretty much done with the supp. app and PharmCAS so I will submit in a few days.

How is everyone submitting the course descriptions from schools that don't have an articulation agreement with UoP? Veronica asked me to email it to her and she would print it and attach it to my supp. app when they get it.

I will re-apply. I asked Veronica if I can use my old application. She said "you should be able to update and submit the supplemental as long as there is a term for Fall 2011", but I opened my old application and couldn't find any place that I can update it. Can anyone help? Thanks.

Hi everyone,

I'm working on UOP's supplemental essay and I just wanted to know if anyone had any tips they'd like to share? I'm aware of the fact that UOP provides a student-centered learning environment and also provides a sense of community and family. Any other suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

Maybe you can talk about the location. I talked about how I was familiar with the area because Stockton is my birthplace 🙂

No, I haven't yet. When did you receive yours?

I received mine today but it was postmarked 07/08/10.

Yes, I did last week. They won't review the app until PharmCAS mails out their stuff though, so will be a while before hearing anything again.

Yeah they said they are still waiting for the PharmCAS app so nothing will be reviewed until then but I got a like a university ID#.

Just received mine and it was postmarked 7/7/10 👍 So I'm guessing we'll start hearing some words in August?

That's what I am hoping. Maybe us 3 will be in the first set.:xf:

MAYBE!!!!! Or maybe there's still tons of other who have submitted and just aren't on SDN...lol
I hope I can at least get an interview. I'm finishing my summer OCHEM course right now but when that is over I am really gonna start doing what I need to do to prepare for interviews. Even though they will be months away, I will be busy with school in the fall again!!

Sounds like me. I start OChem II tomorrow. Still doing psych and just got done with music. Well we submitted before the deadline for tier 1 so I hope we get a chance at an interview. Hell, if we are lucky, maybe we will all get the same interview date as well lol.

Lol, this is weird. I'm starting OChem II tomorrow as well! Kinda nervous about it because I'm taking a 5-week course with a legendary professor. Anyways, that would be super awesome if we all met on our interview day. 👍

I guess there are a lot of similarities between us. It's gonne be really boring to have to sit through one course for over 5 hours.

That's crazy! Well I will finsh my 8-week summer course next week, and I have a pretty solid chance of coming out with an A. People told me I was crazy for taking OCHEM 2 in the summer, but I stuck with it and now I will be so relieved to have it over with when most people will still have to take it in the fall! 🙂

To tell you the truth when I took the second semester of O Chem, I thought it was a lot easier than the first semester. Once you get the whole nucleophile/electrophile concept down it all starts to make complete sense because all organic reactions are based on that concept Taking it in the summer however would be rough, but you gotta do what you gotta do!!!!👍

Hopefully I will be with you guys....I had everything done and submitted by June 30th...Now the waiting game begins.....hahaha!!!

Mine is only 4 weeks.😱

I completely agree. I felt this semester was 10 times easier. Like you said, once you understand mechanisms, the only new material is new reagents and new reactions!

Good luck to all!

what were somethings that people talked about in the additional info essay?

i was thinking of discussing any bad grades, semesters where i didn't take 14 or more units. i wanted to know if anyone wrote about being a re-applicant? (this is my second time applying)

I am not a re-applicant, but if I was, I would definitely say that that would be the place to explain in what areas you have improved on in the past year. For me, I discussed certain semesters where I may have had less than 14 credits, or a withdraw, or a below average grade, etc. Anything "additional" that you would like them to take into consideration, you should talk about there 🙂

I used that essay to elaborate on my Ws (pretty detailed) and the semesters where my courseload was less than 14 hrs.

okay great, thanks for sharing! i'm going to try and work all of that into one great essay 🙂

This is exactly what I did. I also mentioned that because I worked so many hours per week as a Pharmacy Tech. while in school, that I wasn't able to participate in any extracurricular activities or volunteer work.

I have a question for you guys. When I was in school, I worked an average of 28 hours per week as a pharmacy tech. Now that I have graduated I work full time (40 hrs/week). The concern that I have is that I have no volunteer work or extracurricular activities listed on my applications. Then again, I had no time when I was in school because I worked too many hours and I have no time now since I am working full time. Do you think not having any volunteer work or extracurricular activities to account for will ultimately hurt my chances for admission or should my experience as a pharmacy technician be sufficient?😕

Here are my Stats:

PharmCAS GPA: 3.70
PharmCAS Science GPA: 3.5
Nationally Certified Pharmacy Technician: Have worked 2 years in a retail pharmacy.

B.A. in Psychology with a 3.97 in my major
Minor in Biology

I think you should be good.

PS. Let me elaborate. You have a pretty decent GPA, have work experience in the field, and actually have a degree. You can't go wrong there. The only thing I would say is to try and volunteer in your community. The fact that you are not in any ECs may be looked at unfavorably, but I think your other areas more than make up for that.

I feel your pain 🙂 Obviously I am not an expert because I am the same as you, just an applicant, so I couldn't tell you the answer to your question. I have certain things going against me as well, and all I can hope for is that those certain things are compensated for in other areas. :xf:

Does anyone know if UOP even considers an applicant who doesn't have any recs form pharmacists? Are there any people out there who got accepted to UOP without a pharmacy rec? Thanks in advance! 🙂

UOP's website says ... "Two recommendations (PharmCAS electronic or paper copy) from a licensed pharmacist who is not a relative and an academic recommender from a school you have attended within the last three years . . . There are no exceptions; you must provide, on the PharmCAS rating forms, a recommendation from a pharmacist and an academic professor ..."

Therefore, I'm guessing you need a rec from a pharmacist. But I'm not an expert since I'm also applying this year. Good luck!

When I went to the supplemental application workshop in June, they made it clear that the LOR from a non-relative pharmacist is definitely a requirement...no exceptions.

I saw that UOP requires Macroeconomics, but on its website, it says that we can substitute Microeconomics for Macroeconomics as long as we have a U.S BS degree? Did you guys take Macroeconomics just to be sure?

Thanks

My school offered only Microeconomics, so it will be fine if you have a B.S.

Hey RDuran. I just wanted to let you know I was in your same position. I didn't do any EC but just worked as a pharmacy technician and I still got in. They base admissions on a few things. GOOD LUCK :luck:

I did Macroeconomics because I saw that most schools required that one.

I only took micro, and I don't have a bachelors. The requirement is either having a bachelors OR have taken a course in US history or introductory sociology.
