I figured I'd start something unusual...an "unofficial" countdown thread. It surely beats waiting around....

Does anyone know when Yale's acceptance review committee meets prior to the 3/15 date?

Thanks.

Well... if you login into the website... if says that all decisions will be mailed out sometime before March 31st. So sit back and relax... it's going to be awhile. 😉

We were told March 25th. Hurry up and wait 😀

Are they gonna post decisions online?

WOOOO Yale! I *CANNOT* wait! After my horrible Dook interview, Yale is my last shot!

I loved Yale when I was there, so I cannot wait to hear.
Did anyone stay in the dorms? What did you think of them?

Harkness (the medical dorms) are pretty nice. I stayed there this summer for a summer program. They are generally spacious, linoleum floor, bed, desk, dresser, wardrobe for hanging clothes, and a sink. (To get an idea of the size, I did aerobics with videos in the room this summer and just had enough space). The sink was one of the best parts for me though as a nasty sink with someone else's toothpaste is one of the nastiest things to me when it comes to sharing bathrooms. A few floors have lounges with TVs and/or kitchens (although there is no cable in Harkness). The most complaints I hear from the students who move off campus (I'm a Yalie) is that they get sick of seeing their classmates 24/7 - I mean it's not like undergrad where you see your friends in an occasional class - you're with the same folks all of the time.

Bumping this

Serenity now. Solidarity now. Yale show me some love, pretty please

when's the date in march when schools are supposed to fill at least their entire class w/ accepts? i tried contacted yale adcom last week but didn't get any reponse yet. probably cuz of the strike. hopefully that doesn't push decision back a week.

what strike?????? 😕 😕

No worries. The strike didn't affect anything, especially not the med school admissions office. I do research at Yale, and the strikers (about 500 total and many fewer actually protesting on picket lines) had no affect on life at Yale. The unions released total bull&hit to major newspapers about the numbers that were on strike. It was a very UNDERwhelming experience with all of the hype leading up to it and seeing 1 person at each picket line location.

I've heard March 15th as the aamc date when they have to tell us but is that a firm date?

Again, anyone have a definitive answer for this? I'm going to be visiting my grandparents in Florida the last week of March, so this will save me from spastically calling home to ask about any new mail. 😉

I don't think the status page will be updated. However, Yale tends to call people to inform them of their acceptance....or at least that was the case last year when my friends were accepted.

😀

Really? They'll call even for the first batch of acceptances? Interesting...

Kovox, what do you mean "first batch of acceptances"? Doesn't yale just have one, big 'ol batch? From my understanding, that is, they're not rolling. Good luck!

kreno

Yeah, they're not rolling. I meant before they give acceptances to kids on the waitlist.

yale's friggin ambiguous! just called today and they were pretty roundabout regarding the notification date. apparently march 15th is when then begin sending out decisions....all the way up til end of march. no word of timeframe for acceptances, waitlists, rejects, etc.

Does anyone know if Yale mails decisions to the permanent address or the current one? I know they mailed that financial aid info packet back last December (around then) to the permanent address...but anyone know where decisions go?

has anyone who interviewed during december or later received their financial aid packet?

goodmonkey i know exactly how you feel. 🙁
funny how all of a sudden i think bulldogs are the cutest dogs in the world when a year ago i thought they were just chihuahuas in really loose outfits.

bumping up this thread cuz ysm needs some attention! all the other non-rolling schools are getting a bunch of responses except yale! the admissions office said that 3/15 would be the first day acceptances would be sent out to the mailing address. they'll be sent out in batches. Secretary didn't say if it'll be by interview date/last name/decision type/etc.

i'msoexcitedandnervousi'mgonnapop! 😱

i've withdrawn from all schools except the #2 choice and yale. march 15th 1st round of letters sent out? you think that includes rejections and waitlists? b/c if i'm getting flat-out rejected next week then i can at least stop dealing with this helluvamess called Need Access. 🙄

Most likely its acceptances, since by 3/15 each school is "requested" to have the same # of acceptance offers as the number of seats in the starting class.

If I get accepted to Yale ( ), can I give up my spot only if it will go to someone who would otherwise go to UMich?

😉

😛

all in good fun, kids. all in good fun

I'm in the Yale/Umich dilemma boat too! So count me in on this deal.... i'll throw in a free banana too! 😛

Ooh ooh, me too =)

I loved Umich, but I'm a north east girl and I'd like to stick around a few more years.

so i contacted admissions today, and they said letters will go out the last week of march, but not before March 27th.........ok, double click the clock on the bottom righthand corner of your screen......yup thats right, the letters are going out either the 27th or 28th........ugh......fatigued........crawling through the dry dry desert of decision time...........

just wanted to confirm indiemd's 27th date. spoke to veronica this afternoon. i think there's a few people in the admissions who pick up the phone. veronica seemed to be most confident when issuing the 27th. on the other hand, someone else i spoke to two days ago gave a pretty broad timescale of the 15th all the way up til april. apparently they'll make decisions in one big batch prior to the 15th. printing/processing letters takes them a week.

Oh my! The 27th!?!?!?! That means, realistically then, we won't be FINDING OUT until the following week... like the end of the first week of april!!!!!!!!!! 🙁 🙁 🙁 HEEEEEEEELP! DYING!

More waiting? Fantastic!

me too!

Come on guys we can get through this. They always said we'd hear before APril and that's only 2.5 weeks!

*GM explodes*

i scanned last year's yale countdown thread and here's a brief summary:

1) Decisions last year went out 3/28 (a Thursday) and someone from CT found out 3/30.
2) Acceptances come out in a fairly thin envelope w/ a few pieces of paper
3) One person who got thier rejection got it at permanent address.
4) They're various tiers of waitlists. If you're on the first one, you have pretty good shot of getting in.
5) Movement didn't happen til late april, after the 2nd look weekend.

but last year the deadline was extended to march 29th so they made it in before the deadline...

will they really not send any acceptances until the end of march? if so, clearly the march 15th thing means nothing 🙂

hmm...anyone care to call yale today to clear up the questions?

yeah i vote you too! i called a week ago! 🙂🙄

ok ok ok peeps.... just called.

decisions will be made and mailed out the week of march 24th. the guy (dang it sounded a lot like the dean of admissions) said that the 24th is a monday and thus it is unlikely they will send the letters out that day, but that we can expect letters to be in the mail before the end of that week.

ok. now i have a definitive date from someone in the office and i feel much better.

YOU'RE WELCOME! 😛

Thanks for the info. Now I can put off my anxious midday ditch-work-to-raid-my-mailbox runs for another two weeks or so 🙂

McT

i couldn't resist the temptation to call yale...hehe. 😀 gotta use up my cell phone minutes. i basically just end up using like 100 minutes each month from my 250 cingular account.

i spoke to a female. she said decisions will go out by 3/28. i subsequently asked her if the 3/15 decision date was still true. she *reluctantly* w/ a "um....<<pause>>...yeah..." confirmed that the 3/15 date for decisions was still on. thus, i kinda believe that as of today, all decisions have been made to meet amcas's deadline. however, it'll be awhile before they stuff all the envelopes.

bump! any updates my fellow yale applicants?

uh, no! 🙄 there aren't going to be any updates for a bit mr. antsy pants. i mean seriously, even if they did make their decisions and type up all the letters on friday the 14th, then mailed them out that afternoon, getting them just into the post office on time.... even then the guy down the road from their office would not have the notification yet.

however, we know that is not the case. we know they have said that they are not sending decision letters until next week. even if they're lying and they have indeed sent the letters, it will be a couple days.

now get your undies outta the knot and have some patience!
