UOP Interview

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hey guys

I just got a very confusing mail from UOP that neither says i'm rejected nor accepted but that I should wait and stay encouraged because they believe I'm a strong applicant..... I guess this might be saying that I'm waitlisted? The letter is very confusing.. Did anyone else get a similar letter from UOP? I interviewed on Nov. 16th by the way.

I got the same thing today, and I interviewed on Nov. 16th.
I am kinda disappointed....🙁🙁🙁

I was thinking that I didn't do so well in the interview.. I wasn't so enthusiastic and lacked motivation for some reason.. I thought I would get rejected from UOP because I think it was obvious that UOP wasn't my first choice.. But I regret not being enthusiastic at the interview and still want to get in !😳

anyone who interviewed on november 16th got accepted??

Congrats to all those who got accepted!
I heard that there are more pre-pharm students this year and UOP is accepting less applicants. (Which also means that those who got accepted so soon are AWESOME!)Unfortunately, I got a deferment letter. I'm not too happy about it and can't resist worrying.
Does anybody know how bad (or how good) a deferment letter is?
Did UOP send out rejection letters too?

WOW this is INSANE!!! SO many WELL QUALIFIED applicants are getting deferred. This scares me because I have not received anything yet. I am sorry to hear this guys, but don't loose hope because YOU NEVER KNOW!!! Like I said before, many people who get accepted will defer their offer and this leaves hope for all those applicants WHO TRULY WANT TO BE A TIGER!!!

Only 5 people on the forum have been accepted. I am thinking that maybe UOP decided to hold off on accepting more pharmacy students until they have interviewed ALL their applicants.
I am so anxious!!!! URGH

I received the same deference letter today in the mail...

Aggie, you are definitely right that UOP want to wait till they finish all the interviews in March and then review all together again except those exceptional candidates who have received the admissions. So they are not rejecting anyone right now, because they don't know if the later interviewers are not as good as the first 3 groups.

I am really disappointed, it is not reasonable to keep an applicant waiting for 4 or 5 months. why can't they just admit 50% from each interview groups? UOP encourages us to apply early, but now there seems no advantages to apply early at all.

What did the letter actually say?

It says "Although I am not able to offer you admission at this time, I would like you to remain encouraged that we will review your application again after the interview process is completed in March. Please know that your application was given the personal attention it deserves and the committee believes your profile is strong enough to be considered for admission or waitlist status. Specific strengths or weakness found during the review process will not be available until after the review cycle ends in April. Please contact our office at that time if you would like to discuss your file."

Well, I guess it would be too late if I wait till April to discuss my weakness, better do it now, right?:laugh:

The bright side of this is UOP actually told us about this. They said only very strong candidates will get admissions shortly after the interview, the majority of admission decision will be made after all interviews are done.

I don't think any one has got a rejection letter, I guess those rejection letters will be sent out after March.

What did the letter actually say?

The deferment letter from UOP was stated:

"After completing an initial review of your application, we decided that it is appropriate to defer our decision. Your file has been placed on hold and a final decision will be determined later in the cycle...We will continue our review of your application in late January. Interview letters are sent through the month of March. I am not able to give you specific reasons for the decision which was made on your file at this time. Any new information will be considered when your application is re-reviewed (fall grades, updated volunteer work or work experience, etc)".

The letter also mentioned that,

"students who are currently enrolled in the first semester of organic chemistry are typically placed on hold until fall grades are received. Whether or not you are enrolled in organic chemistry in the fall, you should report your summer and fall grades to PharmCAS as soon as they are available".

Which doesn't apply to me cuz I got A's in both semesters of O-chem.
What do you think?

I think you will hear something in March because many applicants are getting acceptance letters to other schools...Hang in there you I still feel you will get something positive in March....

I met Klem and Ohanj...and the both of you guys will get in later down the road....that is what I feel.......

Did anybody who got that "unable to offer admission" letter actually call to discuss there file?

Is states in the letter that they want us to wait until April to discuss our files.

orange county here. How long does it take for it to arrive? What was the stamped date on those who got a response already?

got my dreaded "will review application again after the interview process in March"letter in the mail today 🙁
This was my number 1 choice. Oh well, better start applying to schools out of state. There is so much competition for 100 transfer seats.

Don't loose hope rxliteguy. I am having my mother check the mail as we speak. I am thinking that UOP decided to not evaluate any interviewees until they have finished interviewing everyone in march.

Hang in there. UOP is my #1 choice as well. Hopefully we will see each other next August and laugh over how anxious we were and I how much time we spent on this forun disscussing UOP.

BEST OF LUCK!!!

OKay... well i have YET to receive ANYTHING!!! Ugh.. this means another anxiety filled couple of days.....

I SERVERELY DISLIKE SNAIL MAIL!!!

Hi everybody. I interviewed on Nov. 16th, and today I got my orange packet with my acceptance letter, so every one else's must be on their way! GOOD LUCK to everybody. All you Nov 16th interviewees I got to speak with definitely deserve to get in 🙂

I know, but what we can do? At the same time, I really do not understand what UOP is looking for now, I am confused. GPA? LOR? Experience?

Congratulations RxbyM! Did you by chance recieve an email about your acceptance before the the letter arrived in the mail? I interviewed on Nov. 16, too, and I haven't recieved anything from UOP. My overanxiousness is making me try Ito figure out their decision before it comes. This is going to be a long two days till Monday... hopefully I won't have to wait past Monday. Thank you in advance for your response. Again, congratulations!!!

i am also waitlisted 🙁. i thought i did really well on the essay and interview. UoP is my first choice but i'm afraid that because im an out of stater, my chances of getting in are significantly lowered. i'm from the nov 2 interview. did anyone else from that date get waitlisted? did UoP send out any rejection letters? i'm so nervous. my birthday is in march. that means i'm either going to have an awesome bday or a horrible one.

I also received the "strong application for admission or waitlist" letter, and I'm so confused about it. If they are going to review our applications after all the interviews are done, why would they recommend submitting our applications to them early? Why would they split the admissions processes to tiers?

Exactly!

On a random note, anyone here have their interview on Nov. 16 that is a Berkeley alumni or from Berkeley? I forgot to ask the person I was partnered up with for her contact info to keep in touch. We were the group that interviewed first, then writing sample 2nd.

This is my first post in this uop thread...I've been keeping up with the thread and I've noticed a lot of dedicated uop hopefuls...I'm pulling for all of you. uop is an awesome school for many reasons. As for everyone who got the "wait-til-march-for-decision" letter, heres my take on it:
This was talked about in our interview session, as well as stated in the website, and even at the UOP open house back in sept: The bulk of the decision letters go out in march. The strongest, most qualified candidates get accepted 4-6 weeks after the interview. How do they decide who the strongest are? That will be a mystery.
So if you have received that letter, don't lose hope. It just means you'll be in that regular decision mailing cycle in march. And in my opinion, tier 1 still has advantage over tier 2 and tier 3 interviewees. I bet tier 1 interview grades may be "boosted" a little over the tier 2 and tier 3 grades simply because we applied early. And tier 1 applicants have their apps looked over multiple times to be offered an interview. Thats the other advantage.
As for me, I interviewed on Nov 2nd. I felt I did well on the essay and the interview, but I met so many qualified applicants that it was a little intimidating. I received an email from Veronica about 2.5 weeks later for acceptance and I received my big orange envelope last week. I'm so happy and humbled and very fortunate. This is my top choice as well.
Anyway, good luck everyone. I hope for you hard-working, dedicated and passionate applicants to receive that big orange envelope soon.

P.S. DavisAggie: I'm super hoping for you...I am a current aggie!

Congrats FutureFarmDee!! If you don't mind sharing your stats, I'd like to get an idea of the strong UOP applicants! Did you have pharm experience/activities at school? Im anxiously waiting for an interview at UOP :scared:

To be honest, I have no clue what their criteria are. I honestly feel extremely fortunate and its like I just won the lottery or something!

If i had to point something out that caught their eye...it'd be my leadership activities, work experience, and im pretty sure i had good letters of rec. In my interview it was comfortable and conversational. I talked about my experiences at work, interest for MTM services, and wrote a coherent essay.

Anyway, I know how hard it is to play the "run-to-your-mailbox-check-your-email-everyday" game. Just be patient and stay positive. I know its easy for me to say b/c i don't have to wait til march. But my most truthful statement is that if your PASSION for pharmacy is there and was shown during your interview, you will get that orange envelope in march. i wish you all the best.
and now back to finals studying...

I have to agree with FutureFarmDee, be patient, I guess it's easy for us to say since we got in already but I know many, many people in the past that got their acceptance letters in March or after.

The advantage of applying early to tier 1 isn't that you'll get accepted first, it's that you have a better chance of getting an interview, I think. Think about it, they get close to 2000 apps and said in the interview that they will only interview 300 or so. So for the people on the deferment list, it's a 1 in 3 chance, 33% even more since some will turn down UOP.

I think we can stop trying to figure out what stats are important at this point. There are people with high GPA's that got in and that got deferred. People with low GPA's got in and that got deferred. It's a mystery to everyone.

Come March, this thread will get filled with a majority of you saying you got accepted. It seems that most people on SDN are brighter and more motivated that the average pharmD candidate. That's why you come here to find out more information about everything, to get that little edge over the competition.

We'll have a good laugh about how crazy we went in Nov and Dec here at the orientation BBQ before classes start at UOP.

See you in about 8 months.

WHO WOULD WANT TO GO TO TOURO WHEN YOU GET AN INVITE FROM THE BEST PHARM SCHOOL ON THE WEST COAST......😀

congrats to everyone who got accepted to UOP!!!

I just got my "wait til march" mail yesterday 🙁 I interviewed on nov 16th. I'm very disappointed in myself, but at the same time don't know what they are looking for. I really hope I get in, because after the interview I fell in love with the school and everyone was so nice! I would love to go here 😀

Here's to waiting...

hey, did you tell the interviewers you were a lakers fan?
I told them I was a die-hard Lakers fan. I regret it now because I know Kings fans there hate us. Jk.

Hi guys,
How long after the PCHK date did you get your interview invite? Has anybody got a PCHK date and then not invited for an interview?! I am tier 3 by the way.

Thanks googleit, DavisAggie, yazzman and everybody else for your congrats. I just wanted to say that I completely agree with moolman. I strongly believe that most of you on this forum will get in come March. You guys are definitely the ones that stand out; always encouraging, always offering kind words. That speaks volumes of how good of a pharmacist all of you will be. In my workplace, but especially in my college, I have met numerous pre-pharmers that are unbelievably rotten. From what I know, none of you on this forum are like that, and that is one of the many things that makes you stand out. I really hope you guys get in, you are the people I want as my classmates for the next 2 years...🙂

Oh, and to answer your question googleit, I did not get an e-mail before my envelope arrived.

good luck to everyone!!!!!

Thanks PharmDnPhD, Good luck to you ,too. Do you know when is the next interview date?
