UPenn c/o 2019 Applicants!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I just realized with all the craziness of the holidays, I forgot to email Rob a photo of me. Please tell me other people forgot too!
I'm sure it's not a big deal! I think they mostly use to to attach a face to a name. I'm sure they'll be understanding; the holidays are crazy for everyone 🙂.

That's NOTHING. With how excited I was about having received an interview invite, I totally didn't remember to email them back that I was going to be attending. I received a phone call the day before the "due date" to confirm the interview, asking if I still wanted to attend. There was a LOT of "oh gosh" 's and apologizing for my silliness. I think you'll be fine!

congrats to those accepted! :claps:

can you guys give those who still have to interview any advice? i know, just be yourself and look over the application. but, i was looking over the old interview questions, and they had pretty specific questions, like listing some issues of vet medicine today and name a function and process of an organ.

did you guys get any of those?

interviews are my kryptonite- I've had work interviews, but not for school! I freak out about them easily 🙁

The most specific question I got asked had to do with something that I put in my personal statement about a cow. They asked if I agreed with the decision that had been made regarding the cow and calf. There was nothing in mine meant to trip me up. I would definitely brush up on animal rights vs animal welfare and look into current issues in vet med (ebola could be something to look into a bit), but as long as you know why you want to attend Penn and why you want to attend vet school you should be good!

I didn't get asked really any common interview questions. The interviewer just said my grades were excellent and I have a ton of experience and my recommendation letters were really good. We just like talked about some things on my application. Then we talked about the interviewers practice and some common experiences we both had. She was an exclusive cat vet and was really awesome. Honestly, I have found from my experience with interviews is that if you can make them laugh and start talking about themselves it is a very good sign.

Thanks for the tips! Do you find out who is interviewing you before you actually go into the interview or do you find out when you meet the interviewers?

I went on large animal day and when we arrived they handed us a list saying what time we'd be called in to interview and who we'd be interviewing with. I'm not sure if they do that for every interview, though!

@CatGirl12 it sounds like your interview was pretty short?

and i totally agree with the laughing and talking about themselves part- my main goal for my interview, basically!

CONGRATS, EVERYONE! This is so exciting!! :highfive:

Did those of you who already interviewed end up emailing thank-yous afterwards, or is it not expected?

I emailed both of the people who interviewed me afterwards, just to be safe. I'm not sure if it's expected, though!

Thanks to everyone who gave tips! My interview is this Friday and I am super excited!!

Hi everyone!

did anyone else interview on friday and not hear back yet? I was interviewed by Dr. Grandstaff and thought it went well but am now getting nervous!

Don't worry, myself and a few of my friends who interviewed later in the day haven't heard yet either. We all felt our interviews went pretty well too so it sounds like they didn't finish making phone calls

I emailed my interviewer as well because she gave me her card at the end of the interview.

Does anyone who got the call know if we will be getting an email or is it just the letter in the mail? I think Rob said it would take 1-2 weeks to come in the mail. I am afraid to cancel my other interviews without having written notification that I got accepted. Lol I am crazy I know, but Penn is my top choice and I can't believe I got in!

@CatGirl12 I believe we're just getting a letter - relax and cancel it all 🙂

Anyone else who got the call definitely going Penn? I'm excited to know who my class will be!!!! I need something else to preoccupy me because I'm already apartment searching and it's probably unhealthy.

I am just as excited. It is finally setting in. I started looking at buying Penn sweatshirts....

I'll be in your class! I was accepted last year and deferred to work on PA residency 🙂.

For those who've interviewed and have time to spare, consider filling out an interview survey for the Penn Vet page. I found it really helpful over the last week to look at last year's feedback in preparing for my interview this week, so I'm sure others will feel the same about your feedback 🙂.

Did anyone who was interviewed by Dr. Holt hear back yet?

for those that have interviewed, how many questions were you asked?

WOO REJECTED! Anyone else get that nice email today?
Congrats to all who got in yesterday ^_^

...still nothing AT ALL from Penn. Can't they just reject me already?

It;'s still early though. Penn continues doing interviews until March. Both of my friends that go to Penn both interviewed in March so just hang in there it's not over yet.

just had my interview and although I'm pretty exhausted, just wanted to confirm that what everyone has been saying was definitely my experience: very laid-back, conversational interview (I really liked my interviewer, and I can count on one hand the number of formal "questions" she asked me; the rest was just talking about our interests), and the students and faculty were really nice. the only awkward part was at the end when we returned from the tour, they were like "okay, we need to make admissions decisions about you guys, so you can leave now." :scared:.

but really, don't stress about this one. be yourself and enjoy the day

Does anyone know the % of applicants accepted that are invited to interview, in general?

Does anyone know the % of applicants accepted that are invited to interview, in general?
I found one statistic somewhere (not on the Penn website) that said that they invite between 1.5 and 2x as many people as they accept. I don't know how accurate that is though, so take it with a grain of salt!

Penn's website says they interview 1.5x the number of that years class. So you're right, @brightimpressio!

For those that interviewed, did you bring a notebook or such for the tour? And did you bring your coats and purses with you into the interview room or was there a coat rack outside? I'm trying to decide on what to bring and how to dress!! I was thinking of wearing some comfy black boots for the tour and short heels for the interview.

Thanks for any help! 🙂

I interviewed last year, but there will be a rack for coats by the security desk. 🙂 They also let us leave our purses and such in the "waiting room" during our interview.

Good luck everyone!

I brought a notebook, but truthfully never used it. They give you a folder with a ton of sheets in it too so you could always take notes on them. There's a coat rack in the lobby where you can leave everything (boots out wear etc), as well as a classroom where everyone waits for their interviews where you can leave your purse when you go to meet with your interviewer.

I'm interviewing Friday!!!! I can't wait to meet you guys!! :cat:

Hi guys, first post here. I had a look at the interview questionnaires last week while i was preparing and thought it was only then fair to come back and post my own feedback. I interviewed on Friday (1/16) and following on from what has been said in previous posts I can also confirm that the interview was very laid back and relaxed. The student guides are a great resource and were nothing but helpful. It is their job to put you at ease before you are called for your slot. Everyone is saying it but just try to relax and show them the real you. Good luck and if i can answer any of your questions I'd be only too happy.

I actually have off from my externship this Friday, so I'll try to make it to Happy Hour and hopefully meet some of you. I just might be tired cause I'm doing an overnight the night before at my externship.
