Yeah, I sent it in. I don't know whether I should send it again. But, would I have been offered an interview in the first place if that were missing?

Congrats kiddoc!

Yeah, you would have been offered an interview anyway. They went ahead and offered you the interview b/c of your stats. A friend of mine interviewed there even though her letters of rec weren't all in. So, it's not all set in stone...

Yaaaayyy! Way to go! Hope to see you here!

it sure is cold around my mail box, its going to be a long winter.

so today they should be mailing out some acceptances from UAB huh? I finally broke down and emailed Dr. Smith. I interviewed Oct.4....

ps...hello lamyers!!!

Hi there!

I guess you are new? Have you interviewed at South? Good luck at UAB!

Oh my gosh, now I know who you are!!! Hey there rockstar!

anyone sent in their fall grades to UAB or USA yet? just wondering...

Hey all,

I've looked, in vain, for tuition rates at USA. Anyone know what they were this year (better yet, what they will be next year)? They may have mentioned them at the interview, but I don't remember.

I don't know exactly but it's around $7700 per year...

Great! That's less than I thought. Thanks, lamyers1.

Kevo, I faxed mine in to both schools. I didn't think it'd help my case at USA since your points have already been determined, but Vanessa told me to go ahead and fax them in.

I also faxed them in to UAB. Just make sure your name and SSN are on the grade report.

At this point, I don't think either of the schools really care for an "official transcript," so don't waste your $$ having those sent. Both schools told me a copy of the grade report would be sufficient.

anybody get accepted to uab

Here's the spill (I got this from a reliable source).

UAB has apparently only sent out 75-90 acceptances so far. Though they say the 15th on their website, the more realistic date is around the 30th of this month. They're one month behind this year, so it'll take some time to hear back. If Dr. Smith hasn't replied to your e-mails, it's b/c he's bogged down with many....he may not reply to your e-mail the same day/week....BUT he will e-mail you back!

Hope that helps.

Yes, only one lucky person has heard at South, back in December (4.0/36 freak of nature). Have I already posted this somewhere? sorry...

Huh, lamyers1? I'm not following your last post.

Oh! A guy from South got into UAB. Gotcha. Sorry.

I interviewed at UAB last week. We had around 15-20 applicants there that day. All interviews were done by 11:30 and we all went to lunch while the interviewers met to decide our final ranking. If your ranking is high enough, Dr. Smith said you could expect an acceptance e-mail near the 30th of the month, which is followed by a snail-mail letter. But you can still be accepted later if your ranking is lower.

Sorry Swampman, maybe MY name should be "dazed and confused." Maybe it's because I had to change from lamyers to lamyers1 and am not quite feeling myself...maybe it's drugs?

Yeah, I received a reply from Dr. Smith, who is really behind on his emails, so be patient. He really is a nice, candid guy. I sent an unofficial copy of transcipts to UAB. They said it didn't matter, so for once, save money :)

Good luck everyone. Maybe after we all get our ton of acceptances, someone can start the USA vs. UAB thread :)

Ok, I have talked with the financial aid people at both schools. USA says that it does not want your parents' info, period. UAB told me that parents' info would only really help you out for low income parental loans. So, if you are an independent student and only thinking of these places, don't worry about it.

Thanks grunermann,

When I was at UAB, Mark Martin told me I needed my parent's info... and I even told him I was an independent student. I got the distict feeling the financial aid office there is not very good. On the other hand, the woman at USA seemed to be right on the ball... it's a consideration for me if I have a choice to make.

Thanks again for the info! :D

Well, I talked with Mr. Martin (over the phone). He said it wouldn't be a problem. I hope this won't affect scholarship stuff.

For those of you that have interviewed at USA or UAB, please post some feedback on your interviews; what kind of questions you were asked?
I have looked at interviewfeedback.com. Thanks for your help.

Hey Bama! Good luck on your interviews. At UAB, it was pretty much get to know you stuff, except for one person who asked me a bunch of rather personal questions... I did not think they were relevent, or legal for that matter. (I was asked about my plans to have children and my marriage - they aren't supposed to ask you about the children part.) But other than that, it was fine. At USA it was very conversational, however, some of my fellow interviewees said they had some ethical questions. I did not have any of that - most of my interviewers wanted to know how a news photographer could become a med student. But just be honest and yourself and you'll be fine!!! Good luck again :D

The 30th (aka end of month) is approaching...

has anyone that interviewed at uab this month heard anything? the 30th is here, though it could be the 31st, or 2-XXXX for that matter.

Question. I am a soon to be post bacc career changer that is going to attend USA for for Pre-med requirements and I then hope to go to USA or UAB. IS anyone else out there non-trad applying to these schools? DOes anyone know approx how many non-traditional students these school accept a year? Finally, what are the GPA (science/overall) and MCAT scores for those that have been accepted to both?

Nope, word is that they haven't mailed yet. rightwing, why don't you update these people?

*sigh*
*sigh*

Hey CPA!

I'm a non-trad, 28 years old. I've applied to both, interviewed at both and have been accepted to USA. Don't worry, they like us... Ask lamyers1, she's a non-trad too, presently at USA.

PM me if you want stats!

Hi CPA, 34, (freaking old) 3 kids (lots of freaking kids) and 29R (low freaking MCAT). BTW I'm stressing four tests right now. Oh yeah my GPA is good, my saving grace, 3.96. USA loves non-trads. All 3 of my interviewers told me that. Serious, 2 were nontrads, one straight arrow top of the class 4th year. He said they were much more respected!!! OK, back to neuro, still seeing Mothmen everywhere! (DO not see this movie!)

Hey lamyers:

Are you going to be at school Saturday or are you going home? If not I'll just do a drive by, I don't think I'll have time to stop on my way back through Tuesday...

I want to see that movie!!!!!!

Hey, I'm trying to call you but that number that you emailed me is not working. Re email me quick so I can call you!

CPAguy- i'm 34 and from CA. i just interviewed at UAB this month. (didn't apply to USA) i don't know how many non-trads they accept, but they invited me for an interview at 34 and as an out-of-stater, so they must not mind us old folks too much. waiting to see if i get an acceptance e-mail. good luck.

I appreciate all that have responded to me about USA and UAB. I guess now I just need to hit the books and get myself in (easier said than done). Do you think that it matters if I go the non-degree route and take my premed coursework (I am enrolled at USA Undergrad for Fall'02 and they don't have a formal Post-Bacc program), or should I consider going somewhere that has a formal Post-Bacc program? Any suggestions?

I don't think it matters if you go to a formal post-bacc program. I attended no less than 4 undergrad school trying to scrape together my requirements - I was working full time and had to get a certain schedule. They asked me about that in both of my interviews, but when I explained why they seemed to appreciate my efforts. Just get in with the pre-med/health adviser and find out if your school has a committee that writes you a composite letter of recommendation. Again, ask lamyers about how they do it at USA, she's there now.

anybody get an acceptance letter by e-mail today? (i haven't yet)

rohitbest- thanks for the info.

JUST TALKED TO UAB!!!! they said they were working on the e-mails right now and they should be out by the end of the day!!

Good luck, everyone. Though I didn't apply to UAB, I feel your anxiety. I'm waiting for a decision also.

If we both get the thumbs-down...it's cool! We get to hang together at USA.

hey keith no problem. I'm too afraid to call them, i think i've bothered them enough. I still haven't heard anything after interview at USA, its been almost 2 months. Thats when they made their initial cutoff. I would have thought maybe i got skipped again, but i dont' think anyone on SDN has heard since that first acceptance spree.

well, hope at least some people start hearing from either one soon.

Darn, I can't seem to check my e-mail. I guess the server's down?? Has anyone gotten THE e-mail yet?

my e-mail is empty. i'm hoping they didn't get them out by "the end of the day" afterall. maybe i just wasn't a 1st round draft choice. anyway, if anyone else got them, CONGRATS!!!!!

just got an email from uab and i got in!!!! been waiting a while and its finally starting to pay off.. good luck everyone

Holy crap!!!! I got in too! Congrats jordews! Now the decision making begins.... Good luck everyone, it's far from over. ;)

I just wanted to say congrats too. Hope the rest of us hear something soon.
