USC Class of 2012: Trojan Family Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So those who had interviews today, what'd you think?

I thought it wasn't too bad, and surprisingly (sadistically)...kind of fun! haha

I thought it was ok. I can't really tell how other peole did. Everyone seems so friendly and in good standing.😕

Post anything usc! But 20/150 people is a little bit low.

u guys will be fine. SC is very generous, and down to earth, as long as you were confident in ur interview everything will be fine

The verbal portion of the interview was ok. It was a bit rushed, yet very conversational.

However, I'm a bit worried about writing portion of the interview. I couldn't finish reading the article.. and I just wrote summary instead of indicating "bla bla is the main point of this article".. but oh well.. it's over haha

Anyone have any thoughts on the writing portion of the interview??

OMG... i had the same problem! 5 minutes to read that article wasnt enough since im a slow reader... and i thought it was a bit unfair that some ppl had more time to read the article (like an extra minute or so).

My notes were 7 lines long (5 words)...

But Im somewhat confident about my oral interview. Let's see...

I agree. I know I will be on their so-called "active consideration" list. Just like last year....With my stats, I went to the interview w/o keeping my hope high! 🙁

how can you tell is the faculty really like you or not. 😕
Mine didn't have eye contact with me. However, my student interviewer was extremely nice. She even tried to calm me down by telling me that I was doing great in the very beginning. At the end, my faculty told me "good luck". I guess he meant good luck with getting into pharmacy school....not a good sign.🙁

I honestly thought that the essay was fairly simple. Writing a summary is a lot easier than trying to write an essay in 50 min on a foreign subject. But, if you're a slow reader than yeah, that must have been hard. Now the interview, I thought, was a little awkward. I've never seen people keep such a straight face and have no emotion. The professor was slouched over her desk and the student looked like she was trying to have a stareing contest with me. All and All, I felt like I answered the questions well but I definately wish I had different interviewers.

Wish you all good luck!

Does anyone know if they are really only accepting 20 ppl at first?? Last year it was in the 40's.

Jim granderson (i think that's his name?) said in the beginning of the interview that they're only accepting 20 from 11/10 interview. But other people are put on active consideration list, which is a wait list.

I think 20 is an approximation. The student panel told us about 30 and not to worry about numbers. I think if they want you, they'll take you immediately. First round of interviews are probably the strongest candidates. Each successive round is weaker. They'll probably take more from the first 150. Granderson said something about only taking 100 for the other 3 following rounds, so probably less from those batches. I heard roughly 30 are from TAPS and Granderson said they accept roughly 1/3 more than they can take. Their class size is 190. So they end up accepting (4*(190-30)/3) = 640/3 = ~210?? If they take 30 from each batch, there's still like 90 people left for "active consideration" they decide upon later on. So they definitely take more than 30 from each batch.

I'm sure like the pirate code, 20 is more like guidelines. If the interviewers feel that you should be accepted immediately and there happen to be 25 or 30 in that category, then they really have no reason not to take more than the suggested 20. Those who get placed on active consideration, usually they will give the stats for your group. Please share when the letters come out. You should see them in about 3 1/2- 4 weeks. I would think that November interviewees are probably the strongest of the candidates who applied early. There may be a few candidates who applied later in the application period that are strong as well, but probably not as large of a group as those that were at the November interview. Just remember the field of potential candidates has shrunk from 600 to 450 and I would expect that we'll see them accept about 1/2 (225) knowing that some people will get multiple acceptances and choose to go somewhere else (UCSF, UOP, UCSD, etc). That makes your chances ~50:50. I'd say that's pretty good odds for a school which perenially gets over 1000 applications per cycle (I think last year was 1700 apps)

Wow that's some relief! I was kind of nervous about the number but now hope is alive! Thanks for all the update and if I hear anything, I'll keep you guys posted!

I really didn't understand the essay it was confusing and hard to comment on because it basically verges into different main points. What do you guys think?😱

I think so too... I thought I was the only one who had trouble reading that article within such a short time... 😳 ....

The interview itself wasn't too bad. I was alone with a professor and we just had a little chat, id didn't even feel like an evaluation. The essay was'nt too bad, i actually think the excercise and the time limit is an excellent way to test your critical reading and writing skills.

But this wait is going to drive me crazy. I can't stop thinking about USC and whether i'll get in or not. Seriously i'll think about it a dozen times a day.

WOW... ur right... 50:50 does sound like a good chance (even if a big number will end up getting in directly from the waitlist). Although... knowing the class wil be of 180 students (and 20-25 will come from TAP), i would imagine that opens up only 160 seats. ANyway, I think that just made me a lot happier. come to think about it... it's actually harder to get an interview than to get in once you already have one:

Chances to get an interview: 450/1700 = 26%
Chances to get in after the interview: 185/450 = 41%

COME ON GUYS!!!! DONT LOSE HOPE. I PROMISE ONCE WE GET IN, WE'RE GONNA PARTY UP.

wow thats a great relief! but i do believe that everyone in my group is a very strong candidate.. and even a 50:50 chance.. i still don't think i have that high of a chance. it's just getting harder and harder to get into phamacy shcool.

How amazing will it be to get in right off the bat?? Almost one week to go till we hear. Please post when you get the "letter"!

I don't want usc to ruin my holiday.:beat:

Knowing I didn't rock the interview is killing me slowly. :horns:

Only time will tell, and good luck to everyone. :luck:

im with you on that one TrjTraddie! YEEEEEE! good luck everyone.

Kind of an FYI, that 185 figure is not exact. There were 192 of us when we started, not the 185 they told us. They probably overestimated the number of people that would choose other schools. With all the people who go to other schools (UCSF, etc) I'd say they'll probably accept at least 210 probably 220. Not initially of course, but after the replies start coming back in.

Thanks Farmercyst, I hope statistics will play in my favor. Happy Turkey Day tomorrow! everyone have fun! =)

Oh no. I can't wait to know but I am soooo scared at the same time. I don't want my holiday to be ruined. But, I can't go back in the time machine. So, let's just hope for the best whatever happens.

When do you think interview requests will go out for January interviews?

Has anyone gotten acceptances yet?? Please post if you do please...

i have not had an interview from this school yet...does no news mean good news or does it mean that my rejection letter will arrive shortly 🙄

i think they interview the strong applicants first. i haven't gotten an invite (yet?..i'm not a super strong applicant) but i am staying optimistic since SC is my #1 choice!

Don't over-analyze. People get in from each of the interviews. 1st or last doesn't have to make a difference.

I think UCLA is going to win the football game 🙂 J/K lol

USC will destroy the bruins by 3 touchdowns at least. my final prediction: #8 USC 35 . UCLA 6 (from field goals)

I got a lack letter for my prerequisites. Do I need to do anything about it? All my other application materials are complete.

Shikamuru:

You don't do anything about the lack letter. I emailed Mr. Granderson about it. He said it is just an evaluation. If you receive the lack letter, he told me that your application has been reviewed. Now we have to sit and wait for interviews. Im crossing my fingers. As long as you finish all the courses that you are lacking by August 14, 2008, you are fine. However, it is recommended that you compete them as sooon as possible.

😛

LACK. Nothing bad, albeit the negative sound.

you guys should definitely complete your prerequisites as soon as possible and send in your transcript as soon as grades are posted. this means TURN IN YOUR TRANSCRIPT. i took prereqs at different schools, and their schedule for posting grades was different, so remember to keep track of all your school's transcript. trust me, your chances of getting in WILL increase every time you send in the update of course completion. it made a HUGE difference when i applied to pharmacy school last year.

anyway, msg me if anyone has questions about USC. 🙂

FIGHT ON!

Are you still pre-pharmacy or a current student?

For all of those who interviewed on the 10th, I found out that acceptance letters will be sent out during the week of December 10th. Hope this helps! G'luck 🙂

I got the LACK letter two weeks ago but haven't heard anything since.
