How strong is USC's preference for in-state students. Also is it actually a preference or more a facet of a ton of Californians applying there?

Thanks.

Anyone got any stats on in-state/out-of-state? Any successful OOS applicants?

Looks like just over 50% of those interviewed get in out-of-state. And a little over 2/3 of those interviewed get in in-state.

(re: USNews)

I don't know how the 8-year kids are considered in USNews. I mean, if they're all considered in-state, that would make the in-state acceptance rate appear higher than it otherwise would be.

And I'm still glad I'm from California🙂

I called the admissions office and they said that they do not give any preference to in state residents. The numbers are simply a reflection of the applicant pool.

That's not true. According to U.S. News they interview about 13% in-state applicants and 5% out-of-state. They also have higher acceptance rates for those who interview for in-state compared to out-of-state. Whoever told you that was LYING!🙄

maybe the california students are just waaaaaay better 😉

Or that almost everyone from California applies there while only a few OOS people apply

Or maybe it's because so many California kids don't get into UCs. 🙂 (a reflection of people complaining on SDN about this, more than a serious statement 🙂)
