Hi,

I am having a hard time deciding between the two schools. I have been accepted to USF's Public Health with dual concentrations in Maternal/Child Health and Epidemiology and UF's Epidemiology.

I thought having a dual concentration would make me more marketable but now that I'm reading more into the program, it almost seems like the Maternal/Child Health concentration is an emphasis?

I'm also concern about the internships available for both schools. Are there any current/previous USF/UF Epi MPH students that can give me some insight?

Please help?!

Thank you in advance!

I just graduated from USF with my MPH, but my concentration wasn't in Epi (I started out as dual Epi and Global Health, but dropped my Epi concentration and got a grad certificate instead). I have some close friends who are in the dual Epi/MCH concentration and from what I've seen, they've gotten some very good experience and opportunities. USF actually has a competitive MCH training program within the department where you get funding for conferences and special mentoring for a year (you might even get a tuition waiver or a stipend as well). Additionally, my friend who is in this concentration (and the training program I just mentioned) just got a summer internship doing Epi/MCH work through HRSA. And she's been doing research throughout her time in the program. I would actually say that this is one of the more opportunity laden concentrations within the college. So if you are big on MCH, definitely go with USF over UF. I can say that without bias as I did my undergrad at UF...as much as it pains me to say, USF is actually better than UF in terms of public health...but thats it, lol

Oh and if you're in a dual concentration at USF, you have two separate advisors, one for MCH and one for Epi. Although, the advisor who usually handles all the dual Epi students regardless of their other concentration is very heavy into MCH work in the college so it would be a great bonus to have her as up your advisor if that's an interest.
