Hi,
I just received an admission letter, but I need more information about U of Sydney's program. I have had about two interviews and have two more coming up, but unfortunately, I have to make a decision on USYD in 2 weeks! I was wondering if anyone has some insight into the program. I think my application is fairly strong and I am hopeful I would be offered admission at one of the programs I am interviewing with, but I don't want to turn down what could be a life-altering opportunity.

I would love to know if anyone has been through the program or know of someone who was an international student What were your experiences as an international student? Did you feel prepared for the NAVLE? Would you recommend the program? Pros/Cons?

I have a dog and fiance to consider too. Any additional thoughts or insight on the pros/cons of an international school vs staying stateside. Does this influence your potential for internships or job placement? Any insight would really help! Thank you!

Hi! I was also just accepted too and I found this info about the NAVLE on USyd's website. It only has info for up to 2016, though. Hope this somewhat helps!

Thank you! Yes, I did see that which doesn't make me feel super confident.....how are you deciding with such limited info?

I’m Canadian and only applied/thought about going to the one school I was able too, so I can’t speak much of USYD, but my dad lives in Australia and moved his dog there with him. It was a looooooong process, with a ton of paperwork. If you do want to bring your dog with you, the paper work has to be started like 8ish months in advance, and everything has to be filled out perfectly. Not to mention the long flight plus 10 days of quarantine at the end of it. It cost my dad more to move his dog then it cost to move himself and his belongings, and it was super stressful on him (and his dog). Obviously I’m not saying don’t do it, just thought I’d share what I know about the whole process!
Good luck making a decision! Sydney is a really amazing city and I’d love to live there one day!

Thank you for your insight! I know it is a huge commitment and I think things like that are definitely part of the decision. What I save in tuition would most likely be minor because of all the additional expenses you incur from moving abroad. I am just trying to see if the program is the right fit. Thanks again!

I think that with such small samples every year, it isn't fair to judge just based off of that. However, the council has renewed their accreditation for 2019 and the next site visit will be in 2026. So clearly the facilities and program are up to par with AVMA standards. I think as long as you do your part in preparing for the exam, it'll be fine 🙂

Hey does anyone know how to reject Sydneys offer and request a refund for the tuition?

Do you still have access to portal? Maybe you can withdraw there. Honestly might be just easier to call so you can ask about the refund

I have access to the portal but don’t see any option for such. It makes it harder that they only have an international office to contact and not like a US number as well. I guess trying to call with Skype is my best option

Hi All!

Hi hope everyone has been keeping well. I am a California native, and this is my second time applying to vet school. I interviewed at KSU, WesternU, have an interview lined up at University of Illinois, and have been put on waitlist for University of Florida interview. I also got accepted into the DVM Program at the University of Sydney and they start school in Feb17th. As I am scurrying about trying to make sure I have everything sorted if in case I do end up going to Australia, I am also anxiously awaiting results from Western University of Health Sciences. I received an email from them saying that decisions will be out by Feb5th 2020 at the latest. Ironically I was also offered an interview at University of Illinois which is to take place in Feb17th. I was also waiting a decision from Kansas State but alas I was placed on the alternate list which is just as good as being rejected. Right now I am wondering what to do. I could just go to USYD, or wait until WesternU gets back to me and if I get accepted there I might accept the offer and also attend the Interview at Illinois. If I get accepted into Illinois or pulled of the KSU waitlist that would be amazing but I don't want to get my hopes up. If WesternU rejects me I will have no choice but to go to USYD if I want to start my DVM journey this year. I stupidly forgot how soon USYD starts and now feel super under prepared. Alternatively I could forget everything and simply re-apply to vet school next year. I was wondering if I can get any insight about WesternU vs University of Sydney from anyone who has attended the schools. I feel like that would help me in making my decisions.

Sorry for the exhaustive message,
Thanks
