Does the school have IM Basketball? And if so, how big is it? (ie roughly how many teams? How competitive?). I'm no D-I athlete...**** I'm barely an elementary school athlete, but I love to play nonetheless!!

Yes. There are usually around 10 teams or so in the men's bracket. Each class usually has at least one guy who played D-I ball and other D-I athletes, and med students are competitive by nature, so it can get pretty physical. Very, very fun, though.

If anyone wants to start up some intramural ping pong, I'm up for it...maybe some intramural NCAA football 2005 on playstation 👍

Make it Xbox and you got a deal.....oh and I haven't done ping pong since college.....but I spent many an hour avoi....uh....."between" classes working on my overhand smash...

How do us elementary school all stars fare?? I like to play, but I'm more of a dirty work player....call me the white mark madsen (minus about a foot and the crazy dancing).....

My friends and I put together a team. We were all elementary school stars (well, I hadn't even played b-ball before med school, but I'm a quick learner) with an NCAA high-jumper and an NCAA strong safety. We didn't win many games, but we had a hell of a time playing.

So, do we get a consolidated list of books to get sometime in the near future, or is it just listed on each class's sylabus? And what did you guys mean earlier when you said you can just use the syllabus for a class? Do you mean you can just use the syllabus to study the referenced parts of the main textbook and not use a review book?

for some tests, you'll have 400pgs of syllabus, if you want to spend your nights reading another book instead of sleeping, go for it. 🙂 most of the syllabi are all you'll ever need and more. anything on a test will come from it, you use outside sources to clarify.

I still say we own on the playing fields and tons of people pick up running marathons when they get to school. so many people from my class did either the houston or austin marathon. I was feeling lazy so I'm doing a 10miler in may. play soccer on the side and realize my glory D-1 days are long gone. 🙁

its true, we're super athletic with tons of former D-1 athletes.

not to mention really good looking 😉

yeah, I hear UT-H students are very good-looking. anyways, i went to a commuter school as an undergraduate, made many great friends, but did not feel like the student body, in general, was cohesive. hope to do some all-out studying and then the socials. hope our class will be cohesive 🙂 blah 😛

We definately have a really cohesive class this year and I'm sure yalls class will be the same. I know I've said it before, and I'll probably say it again, but you should all try and make it to Welcome Weekend and definately do whatever you can to make it to Retreat. 😎

Bump. I'm sure our class will be absolutely stunning to look at. Our thread dropped down to the 4th page 🙁

10 miles is lazy? I barely made it through the 5k Pumpkin Fun Run in Downtown Houston last fall! :scared:

I know a LOT of UTH students in IM basketball...and they always brag about how well they are doing.

Hey everyone,

So I am debating UTMB vs. UT Houston. Any advice?
Is transfering from one to the other 3rd year possible?

Thanks

UTMB and Houston have 2 totally different curriculums. Which one did you like better (or think you will like better)? Also, how do you have the decision to make right now, I thought you have to decide before the match date? Did you get one, and waitlisted on higher ranked school, then get accepted?

Keep in mind you are stating it like you got accepted at both schools. I know people who had UTMB as first choice, but got Houston (2nd choice) and vice versa. I personally believe they take 2 completely different kinds of students.

Also, it depends on what you want to do with your free time. I personally enjoy Houston for the Museums, variety of food, variety of grocery stores (Whole Foods), Shopping in general, and all the Sports Teams. Granted you can still get all this if you go to UTMB, but the commute to Houston cuts down on fun time.

Transferring can be done (its easier between UT schools), but you need a good reason (Spouse is there, or something like that.) Classmates husband is transferring from UTMB to Houston his third yr.

It all really depends on what you want.

Are you applying for 06? This question seems like it would only make sense before the match. Once the match is over, the machine has spoken, and there's frustratingly little you can do about it. 🙄

That packet that they send is downright overwhelming! 😳 Guess I should start working on it soon. 🙂

Does UT H have soccer as an IM sport. I played on the womens soccer team all through college and I'm missing playing. 🙂

My package finally got here....you guys were right...it is quite large!!! 🙂

If there's anyone on here that uses facebook...someone made a group for next year's incoming class...join it!

Group name: The University of Texas Medical School at Houston, Class of 2005

Maybe I'm just ******ed or something, but I can't seem to find that group 😕 Can I get a link to it or something?

Yeah man....I didn't want to say anything, but as long as I'm in good company.....I couldn't figure it out either....I think I could only link to groups affiliated with my undergrad institution.

🙂 I haven't heard the phrase "butt munch" in a long time. I'm glad to hear there is a soccer IM team, sounds like fun. My last NCAA season of eligibility was fall of 03 so its been a while since I've played. Quite a few people could give me a run for my money! 🙂

I thought that the most students at UTH came from UT?

Gotta love the orange on the bumper sticker makes me feel all warm and fuzzy 🙂

Not even close. In our class ('05) there were like 50 Aggies and only 30 Longhorns. I think that trend has held true for several years now.

I decided since i was bored tonight that I would count this years entering class roster, that they sent out in the packet. This year it looks that the aggies will be in the minority as the count on that list is 33 for A&M and 50 for UT.

Hook 'em Horns! 🙂

Didn't mean to turn the thread into UT versus A&M. Though I still think UT is the best....I am biased of course 🙂

GO COOGS! I saw a good number of UH people on that list 😉

Hey guys, did anyone else get a letter from UT-H saying that you are deficient in a course?? They say I am missing some Bio....what's up with that?

Hehe, yer totally outnumbered. :meanie:

Just notied something... When I sent in my fsfa and my UT institutional application I forgot to fax in my application for scholarships... I think I'm going to drive it up to the office in the morning. Geez, how dumb am I.

Sorry, just needed to vent. I hope they will still take it, the deadline said feb 28th, but maybe if I smile real big 😀 I guess its worth a shot.

Anyone know if we need to send in or do anything else (aside form all the new stuff that just arrived in the ginormous packet), I don't really want to miss the boat again.

Hello UTH meds. I'm new to this forum so I'm sorry if this has already been talked about, but I was wondering if any of you have ever heard of UTHouston offering deferals to any students. I know they have a non-deferal policies but I'm wondering if this is flexible (for a non family/health related reason). Thanks.
